Ballarat Grammar has a big focus on wellbeing and has been included with the religious program at the school. It is called R.P and E which is short for religion, philosophy and ethics. Students attend this once a week in their classes or with other classes in the same year level. The first few weeks of term were focused on students completing a character strength survey. Character strengths highlight positive personality qualities that students possess and encourage them to use these qualities in positive ways. By showing students their top 5 character strengths they can get a better understanding of who they are as well value qualities in others. Another program that whole school engages in as a whole community is All On At Once (AOAO). They are procedures that can used to introduce a topic or at the end of lesson to help student to think deeply. Students use them to further engage in a topic, share their knowledge or reflect on their progress or learning. Some of my favourite routines were CSI which stands for Colour, Symbol and Image. It is a non-verbal way of getting students to explain their thoughts. A topic or idea is suggested and students a required to give it a colour, symbol and image. They are to then share this with people around them and discuss the similarities and differences on their work. This gives students an insight into different perspectives and open to new ideas and ways of thinking. Another thinking routine that I used in my teaching was connect, extend, challenge. After our first lesson on measuring energy in the home I asked students to write down how the lesson connected to what they already knew, how it extended or built on their prior knowledge and what is still changed or confused them. The student’s answers were then used to plan my next
Jimmy knows too well the agonies of abandonment. First, when his mother, Cecilia, ran away with Richard to pursue a better lifestyle. Then, due to his father’s, Damacio Baca, alcoholisms and violent behavior; he also had to leave Jimmy behind. In spite of the drawbacks from abandonment to being a maximum security prisoner in Arizona State Prison, Jimmy preserver’s the darkness of prison by overcoming his illiteracy. However Cecilia and Damacio is not as fortunate as their child; Cecilia is shot by Richard after confronting him for a divorce and Damacio chokes to death after he is released from the detox center(Baca 263). The 1998 movie, Bulworth, dives into the realm of the scandalous American political system. From income inequality, to corporate greed, Bulworth manages to put a comedic twist on a very serious set of topics that politicians and the American public face daily. The main character, Jay Billington Bulworth is a liberal democratic Senator from California who is running for reelection (Bulworth: 1998). He has recently accepted millions of dollars in financial campaign donations from large corporations in order to combat his younger, populist opponent. At the beginning of the movie, Bulworth is sitting in his office, re-watching an old commercial from a prior election campaign. He hasn't slept or eaten for days and is considering ending his life.
In the beginning of each lesson several planned supports are introduced to ensure that the focus learner understand the lesson objective and subsequent lesson goal. The two to three planned supports in lesson one compliments the focus learner preference in learning and align with the IEP goal. The planned supports are mainly visual and kinesthetic in nature and they include various Manipulatives, wall charts, YouTube videos, guided notes, and lesson worksheets assessments that are intended to assist the student in achieving the lesson objectives. They are also intended to help the student remain engaged during explicit, guided, and cooperative instructions. The Smart board will be used by the teacher to support differentiation of instruction and by the student to express in writing learning of the lesson objectives. Worksheets will be used for independent and extended practice on concepts taught and the results used to help guide instruction in satisfying the learning goal and the IEP goal. As the focus learner becomes confident the amount of supports are reduced to reflect the IEP

The teacher’s goal when implementing this learning format would be to maximize “interest, engagement and ability” to learn from instruction and activities. (Vessel, 4) This instruction format encourages higher learning levels than the concept developmental interaction scenarios. When a teacher utilizes the higher learning format the experience should increase child involvement and increase a child’s senses (visual, movement and sound) with high levels of engagement. A scenario involving high instructional learning would be, a teacher shows two children, two varying pieces of wood and ask each child how many holes are in the wood? Next how many candles does each child need to put in the holes? Final question which child has greater or less than? Milestones which can be observed using this form of instruction would include corresponder and counter. The other format would be low instructional learning this is where a teacher would focus on reciter skills. A scenario a child asks for an eight the teacher responds with which one is an eight. The teacher places various numerals on the floor the child picks up all the eights. Teacher comment is “Good job!” The child is demonstrating a milestone which would resemble skills related to reciting. The teacher would expand the demonstration to include additional scenarios which would assist the child to
