Recently, the principal of my school has banned the use of cell phones during school hours. I agree with this policy because students could use their cell phones to cheat on tests, quizzes, or any other independent work. Another reason that I agree with this policy is, the students won’t be paying attention to the teacher if they are texting somebody else. The final reason is, cell phones are a distraction to other students who are trying to learn. Cells phones can be a huge problem later in life if the students don’t learn when to use them and when not to use them. The teacher could be telling the students where to go for an emergency and then the student wouldn’t know where to go because they weren’t paying attention. Or the teacher could tell them how to get extra credit and the student would miss the opportunity. Cell phones could be a huge distraction for the student who has it. Lastly, cell phones in classes don’t only distract the student who has it, it also distracts the students around the classroom. Many students actually try to pay attention to the teacher. They want a good education. If a careless student is texting somebody or playing a game, their phone might go off or make a sound. This would be unfair to the students who are paying attention and trying to learn. During important tests and quizzes students are trying to concentrate on what they are doing. A phone going off is definitely a distraction to the students. And it is also unfair to the teacher. A teacher went through years of schooling to get in the position that they are in. If they are teaching a subject and the students are not paying attention, it is like the students don’t care what the teacher is doing for them. In conclusion, I agree with this policy that cell phones should be banned because students could easily cheat on independent work with the phone.
