Bar Mitzvah Speech The parasha I am reading in the Torah is called Tol’dot. Tol’dot is the story of Jacob and Esav. Sibling rivalry, is the focus of the parasha. The brothers had a competition for their father’s blessing. The competition was caused by the parents’ favoritism. Isaac preferred Esav and Rachel preferred Jacob. 2000 years later the same problem still occurs. These brothers were very different. Esav was a jock who preferred the outdoors; He was very masculine. Jacob was more quiet and preferred being indoors; He had more feminine qualities. Even their appearance was different. Esav was a husky, hairy man and Jacob was a slimmer man with less hair and muscle. These brothers couldn’t relate to each other because of how different …show more content…
Jacob was dishonest to his father and brother. Esav threaten to murder Jacob. This caused the brothers to go separate ways. For more than twenty years the brothers never heard from each other. They then planned to meet, we don’t know what Esav was feeling but we know Jacob was very nervous to meet his brother. He feared his brother would slay him. Fortunately, the opposite happened. When the brothers met, they embraced each other. I think that both brothers instantaneously figured out that they should look out for each other. This happens in today’s world. Sometimes an older brother will hurt his younger brother all he wants with no regrets, but when someone else tries to hurt his little brother he will defend his brother at all costs. The brothers realized that even though they were very different, they were still family and should love each other. Being a family means that we forgive each other, accept each other, and protect each other. Since I began Jewish day school, I have dreamed about becoming a Bar Mitzvah. A Bar Mitzvah is a Jewish tradition where a boy becomes a man in the community at the age of 13. Being considered a “man” means that I am responsible for my own actions. It is also expected that I will participate in holiday …show more content…
To start off I want to thank my parents. Both of you not only encourage and support me with my Bar Mitzvah and in life. I am very appreciative to have such outstanding parents. Grandma Helene, you always been so close to me and my brother. When I was little, I loved making paper snakes with you. I still talk to you when I am troubled. You also make me laugh and are very fun to hug. Grandpa Gary, it is so fun talking about expensive watches and shoes with you. You are the only one in the family who likes that kind of stuff. It is also really fun to watch horse races with you and talk about life in general. I hope one day to watch the stock market with you. One of my favorite moments with you was watching the original Dracula. Grandma Jayne, even though you couldn’t make it to my Bar Mitzvah, I love you very much. I greatly appreciate the gift I received from you and even more so the emails we send to each other. Saba, I am sorry that you also couldn’t make it to my Bar Mitzvah. I love you and hope to see you
Parenting played a big role in shaping the two boys lives. Having a parental mentor is important because they assist and guide children to take the right decisions about their lives. The author had his two parents at the beginning of his life. Also, the author’s parents, especially his mother, tried to raise him in an effective way wanting him to know the right from wrong at an early age. “No mommy loves you, like I love you, she just wants you to do the right thing” (Moore 11). This quote was a live example of the author’s life with his parents. It reflected the different ways his parents used to teach him “the right thing.” Though his mother was upset from his action toward his sister, his father
If you have siblings, you know what it's like to get in fights or become distant because of something that happens. But even though you argue, you still feel love for each other.in the book Tangerine by Edward Bloor, The Fishers brothers relationship, is similar to that relationship but there’s no love at all. Their relationship is full of hate, and no communication at all. The Fisher brothers are the complete opposite of the Costellos brothers relationship. The Costellos relationship is filled with compassion and warmth, while the Fisher brothers relationship is ruled by intimidation and distance.
In this story the two brothers love each other, but they don't understand each other and they don't tolerate each other's lives because they love each other so much that they have the power to really hurt one another, but they also show how strong the connections are that bind them, because in the end they find their way back to each other and repeat how much they need each other.
Secondly, “The Rich Brother” tale, relationship among brothers is they have cold-heart love but is typical of brothers. Pete is jealous of Donald because as a child, the youngest got more attention from their parents. From the experience, he faces when the narrator was younger, made beat Donald in his wounded areas. Their parents are death and they only have each other’s support it’s a bond that can’t be broken. In the story of “The Rich Brother”, “Mom was in a state every time you burped, Pete said. “I don’t know maybe”. Maybe I bumped into you accidentally once or twice. “Every Chance you got” Donald said (Wolff 98). They have a playful relationship, they love and care for each other even if their relationship of brothers is not perfect.
They have not escaped from anything, life is still the same as it always was. It is through these unfortunate, but inevitable, events that the brothers are able to reconnect and to obtain an understanding of each other.
The perspectives within the family are the most obvious. Adam led his family to accept the tragedy as God’s will for their lives and to trust Him with their pain and healing. He seemed to grieve for a while and then dive right in to trying to be a better dad. The mother is shown grieving, and then later supporting him as he sought to change his parenting; therefore, her perception seemed to be a fairly healthy one. The brother, Dylan, did not seem to do as well at first. He isolated for a while, but the reason came out one night at the dinner table when he cried, saying he should have been a better brother. The guilt had obviously been causing him to withdraw, but when he finally talked about his real feelings, he is

First off, I want to say thank you to my parents for supporting me. Mom, Dad, thank you for being there with me during difficult times. You support and understand me, this gives me the strength to continue fight through the challenges in life. Without you being here today and by my side, I would have given up. Next, I want to thank the administration. You have all contributed to making this school run smoothly but also have allowed us to have a good time. I, as many others, have enjoyed the monthly walks and fundraising activities, the cultural fashion show and the fun and exciting cultural festival with the live steel bad and African drummers. These are some experiences that some students have never been exposed to. Therefore, thank you for bringing new and exciting initiatives to PS/MS124. Mrs. Babb, you are a very loving and an easy person to talk to. You have made so many positive changes to PS124, one of which is allowing us middle schoolers to have student council. I would also like to thank my teachers, for sharing their knowledge. You have taken the time to explain assignments, make class interesting, challenge us beyond our knowledge, and inspire not just me, but all of us. I want to Mr. Heaton for granting me the position of secretary for National Junior Honor Society last year. This was a great opportunity and that allowed me to play a key role in the National Junior Honor
The story starts by explaining how Jacob has always tried his hardest to be a good little boy like in the Sunday-school books he reads. It gives you many instances of this but instead of the praise Jacob is seeking, he always ends up in trouble, normally because the situation is misunderstood. In the end it takes this to the extreme with Jacob trying to undo what some bad boys did and dies tragically, without saying the last words he had prepared.
When I was younger my brothers and I would fight over the attention and gratitude of my parents. From reading the Stories of brothers in the Bible I have discovered that brothers have been fighting ever since the beginning of time. Through the stories of Cain and Abel, and Jacob and Esau I have determined that Brothers stories are one of childhood ignorance and desire to obtain everything. Once adolescence has turned to adulthood, brothers seem to reform there ways toward each other due to the realization that you don’t need to have everything to obtain happiness.
This quote explains that the brothers have finally understood each others problems but this was only possible by finally telling each other how they feel, so the other brothers are able to show their love for each other. This lets the brothers bond together and possibly stop them from becoming separated.
Preparations such as learning how to read the hebrew language, advancing to read the Torah and then learning their specific Haftorah section which is read front to back, which is the section that they will be read in one of their speeches. Bar Mitzvahs traditionally take place in Temple during a normal Saturday morning session after the boy’s 13th birthday. The Bar Mitzvah (boy) will be leading this Saturday session, and it is open to all members of the temple along with their family members or close friends whom they wish to attend and watch them make this transformation from child to man. The service tends to begin with a song and a moment of meditation. Following this the Bar Mitzvah (boy) is presented with a Tallit by their parents, and as it is being given to them the Rabbi is explaining the importance and significance of this religious garb to those in attendance. After this the Bar Mitzvah (boy) begins leading the service from the bima, a raised platform with a reading desk, whilst being assisted by the Rabbi. The participant then carries the Torah from the Ark, which houses it through the congregation up to the bima following a specific path, to begin the Torah passing ceremony from one generation to another until it ends with the Bar Mitzvah (boy) as the most recent member of the family to ascend into adulthood. Next the Torah reading is divided into 4 parts, 3 people, family
The second time Jacob visits the children’s home, he encounters a group of small children that he recognizes from the pictures his grandfather used to show him. One child asks if he is Abraham, but when they see his face, they are disappointed that he is not, and run away. Jacob runs after them and follows them into a tunnel, but gives up and decides to go home. As he walks through the town
Since the story is about two brothers who are very different from one another, this helps set the tone of the story.
