Why don’t you do something about it? This is one of the most powerful and thought provoking comments one person can make to another. Many Americans complain about how the government is being run and how President Obama is doing his job. However, there were only around 58 percent of eligible voters who came out to vote in the 2012 elections. Many people argue, but they don’t follow through with actions. One of the most crucial ways an individual can persuade a large audience is through public writing. This craft can be a powerful tool when wielded in an effective manner. In order for this type of writing to work, fundamental components have to be addressed. The author/artist has to consider the location, text, medium, passion, and motivation …show more content…
Whenever a political candidate runs for office, they will rally around a support group to fuel their cause. Barrack Obama sent out several campaign advertisements that highlighted all of the positive reasons for why Americans should vote for him and not Mitt Romney. Obama had to cover his losses in his first term so that he could reflect better in the minds of the American people. Obama’s campaigners were passionate about getting him elected. People would brand his slogan of “Hope”, “Change”, and “Forward” to persuade others into siding with their opinions. They wanted the voters to see that Obama was the best political candidate and that he had a vision to move forward into the future. Obama wanted Americans to have faith in him for another four years. Campaign ads are some of the most manipulative sources of public writing. Highly educated individuals use different graphics through billboards and television commercials to relay messages to …show more content…
Many representatives, such as Congressman Paul Ryan, will use media in the forms of Twitter and an online webpage to post information to his constituents and Americans on various policies and procedures. People will also use this technology to propel others into a positive action. One way in which people reach out to a large audience is through a personal blog. One website called “Today is that Day” at www.todayistheday.com, motivates people into living a healthier and happier lifestyle. It provides people with plans to make healthy eating choices as well as how to become a more positive person. There are bright colorful images used to welcome the reader and to allow the public to leave the site feeling optimistic. This website is one of the many examples of how people use technology to influence others. The times are changing and people are forced to adapt with the changes in demand. People are resorting to social media sites to retain valuable information in an efficient
President Barack Obama spoke his remarks at Howard University commencement ceremony for the class of 2016. This special moment in the speech is honoring people of color, especially African Americans and made history at this University, having the president to present his speech (Donnella). Obama explained how America was different when he graduated college and society is now accepting new cultures and backgrounds within today’s workforce and education. Obama wants the audience to take opportunities and learning new skills to expand their education.
In his speech, “Remarks by the President in a National Address to America’s Schoolchildren,” Obama effectively argues his claim, that kids should go to school and try very hard to succeed to schoolchildren around the U.S. He effectively argues his claim because he uses supporting details and stories of students that have undergone tough situations, but still overcame those obstacles to succeed and school. Also, he is trying to tell kids that they should do well in school to get a good job and make a difference. He also uses rhetorical appeals to help with the supporting details. One of supporting evidence that he brought up was that if someone wants to become something such as a doctor, or lawyer you will need a good education to do
President Obama's inaugural speech in 2009 discusses to the people of America his understanding of the hardship and struggle of the economy. Obama discusses his goals to make America better with a compelling voice, using literary devices such as pathos, ethos, & allusion.
Overall I think that Obama has organized his speech very well. Under 20mintues he was able to talk about his own personal biographical sketch, his own vision of America, as well as the reason why his supports for John Kerry for the presidency. By putting in an order, at first, in his biographical sketch he talked about his grandfather’s work as a servant for the British, which allowed his dad to get a scholarship to come to the United States. He then talked about his grandmother who worked at a bomber assembly and raised his mother. With gratefulness for the diversity of his heritage, I think Obama knew that “[my] story is part of the larger American story.”
Former President Barack Obama performed a speech in response to a mass shooting that happened in a community college in Oregon. This speech included other gun related incidents which occurred during his time in office in 2015 regarding Umpqua Community College and Roseburg. After giving his condolences and love to those who felt loss in their hearts, Obama gave a powerful argument regarding gun control and how we, as Americans, should fight and strive for better gun laws. While Obama gave a moving speech, I could not help but feel it fell short in its argument while conducting a thorough critique. Obama appealed to his audience utilizing pathos and ethos with ease but fell short for those in the audience looking for logos or specific facts within his performance. I will be taking this opportunity to delve further into an analysis of this speech and both its heights and pitfalls.
In this paper, I choose the speech of the previous President, Barack Obama; Illinois state senator, his speech address to the 2004 Democratic National Convention marked an important moment in the trajectory of African American rhetoric. I am really impressive his speech because it was strong to affect to our emotion, our realizations and our passion for a strong America. The general theme of Barack Obama keynote address was America Dream, it a big dream and most of the people in America still keeps and develops it strongly. He used rhetoric clearly and effectively, creating a speech that had an optimistic impact on its audience: Democrats,
American culture and American society have long battled for their right to hold and bear arms. "It's the second amendment it is our right to hold arms" this is the mindset of many Americans but for 26 young and old citizens who had their life taken during the Sandyhook elementary school shooting the American public was touched and began to felt the pain that their 'right' had caused dozens of families. After two deadly massacres caused by guns in the short span of a year, President Barack Obama addressed the American public delivering information that they would be proposing to change gun laws and tighten the weapons system. Throughout this speech Obama uses various linguistic & stylistic techniques to manipulate voters on the decisions that gun laws must be changed. Throughout the speech Obama uses techniques such as inclusive language, personal anecdotes and emotive language to convey a convincing speech; he also effectively uses other techniques such as gesture, tone, eye contact, and pace and pauses to
On April 15th, 2013 the Boston Marathon was bombed and many were injured or killed, the president soon after addressed Boston at the Interfaith Service. President Barack Obama’s speech utilized repetition and inclusive diction in order to motivate the people of Boston and send the message that the city will recover.
Move over, parents and teachers. Someone with even more authority wants to tell kids to work harder in school: the president of the United States of America. In 2009, in the first year of his presidency, Barack Obama opened the school year with a speech to students, asking them to take charge of their own education. His speech, which he filled with many anecdotes meant to establish credibility and create inspiration, sent students an important message about their education. However, Obama could have made his speech stronger if he had avoided several missteps in the content and delivery of his message.
America as we probably am aware it- - affluent, effective, confident - is not what Obama needs. He needs a little America, a poorer America, an America not able to apply its will, an America upbeat to be one power among numerous, an America in decay so that different countries may rise- - all for the sake of worldwide reasonableness. To Obama, the loathed "one percent" isn't quite recently affluent Americas; it is America itself. In Obama's view, America should be brought down a peg.
All lives matter not only blacks or whites but all. In this generation that these young kids live in a world that that has so much hatred.other people judge just because the color of our skin is darker or lighter than others even their own kid go against each other. This does effect on everyday life and on our net generation to come. This is why obama talk about racism and tries to tell your people it’s time to make a change.
Sydne Coon P.2 1. Obama has been a shadow politician until this essential address and it is vital to any career in the forefront of political action that he establishes himself in the eyes of the American people. So, knowing the audience, the children of ancestors who cradle the ideals of freedom and opportunity close to their hearts, adopts this idea as part of their identity he uses the opening antidote to establish himself as a common man. He came from a family that created itself under the ideal of the American Dream. He is an American down to his parentage
There has been many great speakers throughout the United States’ history, such as John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Abraham Lincoln. The use body language and rhetoric has been studied in depth for these speakers, but I want to focus on a modern day speaker who won over a nation. As of today Barack Obama is arguable one of the best speakers of modern time, as his style of speaking has a way of reaching many different demographics. His keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention is arguable the speech that would make him president in 2008. But what is it that makes his speeches so inspirational and persuasive to people from so many different walks
The speech was given by President Barack Obama on January 13th, 2011. He showed compassion and-and was very empathetic and serious when speaking of the loss of many loved ones in such a horrific tragedy. He made people feel as though they weren't alone during this terrible and heartbreaking time.
A powerful speech is the first step into engaging an audience through rhetorical strategies, it is also the stepping stone into introducing a way of thoughts, emotions and beliefs on an audience. When Barack Obama spoke to the Graduation Class of 2005 at Knox College, he used these strategies in more ways than one to engage the thoughts of those who attended the event. His credibility of being a senator not only strengthened his argument through Ethos but it made his emotional connection and logical facts seem stronger as well. This emotional connection was really captured when he used Pathos to relate to every single person in the audience by bringing up America’s past which has affected every individual present. His logical facts and the
