The story What I’ve Learned from Men, by Barbara Ehrenreich, speaks about what women should learn from men. She sheds light mostly on the point that women should learn from men how to become tough. Under this topic she talks about a personal experience, unnecessary smiling cutback, taking responsibilities for making conversations go well, and taking credits on their work where credits are due. Barbara has a point when she says that women should learn from men to become tougher. But it’s better not to exceed the limits such that females lose their feminine characteristics. Some of these acts are unnecessary smiling. I agree with the writer in this point. When women smile, it shouldn’t be tiring, because smiling shows and expresses joy with others. It is not obligatory for women to keep unnecessary smiles on their faces to show how ladylike they are. In paragraph 8 the writer explains that women should not hold responsibility for every human interaction they engage in. In other words, the writers’ opinion is that it’s not a women’s duty to keep conversations going on. When women keep the conversations going on, it shouldn’t be because they want to avoid awkward silence, but rather it should be because of the curiosity and care they have to the other person. In paragraph 10 the author also adds a point, which is women should start taking credit were credits are due. Why should women take credits? There is a very big difference between saying “I was just lucky” and saying “This success is due to the hard work and a good plan”. Taking credits where women deserve, lets people know that they are confident and intend to continue and succeed. This shouldn’t make them feel powerful and selfish, but instead they should be proud of themselves, and own it up to the hard work, perfect planning and determination instead of
