The college football playoffs are back and better than ever in year four. This year the two national semi-final games are on New Year's Day at the Rose bowl game presented by Northwestern Mutual and at the Allstate sugar bowl. The four teams selected are Alabama (11-1,7-1) vs. Clemson (12-1,7-1) in the Sugar bowl and Georgia (12-1,7-1) vs. Oklahoma (12-1,8-1) in the Rose Bowl.
These matchups will be decided by the elite players that play for them. The Sugar bowl will be all about elite quarterback play. Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound junior, dual-threat quarterback leads the team with 202.17 yards per game he also averages 10.98 yards per completion. As a quarterback, he ranks fifty-four in the country. Bryant also

Another factor will be Oklahoma’s Big 12 style defense going up against Georgia's SEC-style offense. 2003 was the last time Oklahoma played in the Rose Bowl. Oklahoma head football coach Lincoln Riley said “They (Georgia) are always a challenge. There are great defenses in that league (SEC). Auburn was tremendous last year and I have had a chance to see Georgia a little bit this year. They're tremendous. They have great athletes all over the field. Kirby (Smart, head coach Georgia) and his staff do such a great job defensively with their schemes and the way they attack you. It's going to be a challenge.”
This is the Bulldogs first appearance in the Rose bowl game since 1943. Georgia is balanced on offense with a thousand yard rusher in Nick Chubb, and a 6-foot-2, 225-pound freshman quarterback in Jake Fromm with over 2000 passing yards. Fromm has handled himself this season, but now with the pressure of the playoff and the championship on the line, will this continue or will he falter? Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart said this on playing Mayfield, and if he
Over the next decade Bobby Bowden would lead his Seminoles to a post season bowl game every season except 1981. The loss to Oklahoma in the 1981 Orange Bowl would be Bowden’s last loss in a bowl game for the next fifteen years. In 1987 Bobby coached his Seminoles to what would be the first of a 14 year long streak in which they won 10 or more games.
His stats would tell us he is but really, how important are stats, considering the other three we’ve mentioned had outstanding numbers. However, when Brandon Streeter, quarterbacks coach for Clemson, was asked about how Watson would fair in the NFL, he had nothing but a positive outlook for his star. “He eats and breathes football. He’s in the film room all the time. He’s a gym rat type of kid, and that’s what NFL quarterbacks are made of. I think he’s going to have no problem transitioning to the NFL.”
#8 Indiana (25-7) - All year long, the Hoosiers were criticized about its weak schedule. After losing in late December to Duke, they started playing good defense and ended up running away with the Big Ten Conference title at 15-3. A low RPI landed them a five seed, but this is the third best shooting teams in the Division I at over 50% from the field. Led by All-American guard Yogi Ferrell, they could get hot and run the table.
The turmoil at Florida after Urban Myer left, the chaos that has been Tennessee, which has only recently been calmed by the inception of Butch Jones or the consistent underperformance of Mark Richt coached Georgia teams. However, although coaching is a factor, perhaps the true reason lies with recruiting. It stands to reason that the better players on the field will win. Yes, we all know of the team that overperforms. They play above their ability. In most cases though, when lined up across from each other on the line of scrimmage, the best player will win. This year, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida are all boasting top 10 recruiting classes, although Tennessee might be just outside. However, they have had two top 10 classes in recent years. Better players, an upgrade in coaches and a desire to regain dominance or at least relevance in their own conference is why this might be the SEC east’s
With the loss of starting QB Devin Gardner (1,896 yards passing, 10 TDs) and leading receiver Devin Funchness (733 yards receiving, 4 TDs), Coach Harbaugh starts a new era in Michigan football with a couple of junior running backs and a few returning offensive lineman as the basis of the team's 2015 offense. Harbaugh acknowledges this is going to be a rebuilding process and hopefully fans will give him time to employ his own experience. For now, his offense will revolve around two talented RBs who shared time in 2014. The team's leading rusher was De'Veon Smith who had a total of 519 yards and 6 TDs. He will be competing for playing time with Derrick Green who had 471 yards and 3 TDs. With 7 QBs listed on the roster, the starting QB role will most likely be determined by who is able to show leadership qualities during practice before the season starts.
The second-seeded Sooners (27-7) used a 36-point performance from the senior guard to defeat the 10th-seeded Rams 85-81 on Sunday afternoon to advance to the Sweet 16 for the second straight season.
#1 and Florida State #2 at seasons end, despite the fact that Miami was ranked #2 in the both the AP and the coaches poll and had beaten the Seminoles (Florida State) during the regular season." Ranking problems like that one that happened in 2000 are why the BCS system should modify to a playoff system. "The BCS is a somewhat confusing and often controversial system" (Vilona).
Everyone has a favorite sports team, right? The Alabama Crimson Tide is the best football team in college football. Under the leadership of Head Coach Nick Saban, Alabama has won 7 of the last 10 Championships. Alabama is in Southeastern Conference (SEC). The SEC is arguably the best Division I Conference in all of college football. They are consistently ranked as one of the top five teams and has one of the toughest schedules in football. Under the pressure of a number one ranking, Alabama defeated five top twenty-five teams including number seven University of Southern California (USC), number twenty-five Texas A&M, number four Washington, number twelve Florida, and number seventeen Louisiana State University (LSU). Alabama finished the
The Mountaineers' offensive line has the ability to give the running backs and receivers a chance to flourish against anyone in the country.
Expectations for first season coach Sam Washington’s football team are exceptionally high as the Aggies are following a 12-0 undefeated regular season, a MEAC championship and a celebration bowl title; being the first MEAC team to finish unbeaten since the conference was born in 1971.
The two teams of LA USC and UCLA. Going into the 2010 season was coming off a win in the Eagle Bank Bowl, and had been expected to do particularly well in the upcoming season, however, this
Over the years, changes have been made to the postseason of NCAA football. There have been two major types of game series: the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and the College Football Playoffs (CFP). The BCS was introduced to have the best teams in the nation voted to secure spots in bowl games, determining who is the best team of that year. The CFP let all games in the regular season help a team reach the playoffs and play in the championship game to be declared the NCAA champions. Although many people claim that the CFP’s are the best option for the NCAA, many people argue that the BCS is the better choice to conclude the football season, which leads to think if the change to the CFP was the right choice. The BCS should be reinstated because of its ability to have the top contenders for national champion play each other in order to be the best in the NCAA.
We all know how much significance the Iron Bowl holds for those in the state of Alabama. However, there hasn’t quite been means to quantify the obvious importance.
At the NCAA finals they play against the top-ranked University of Kentucky and legendary couch Adolph Rupp.
The Bruins won the Oho Valley Conference’s regular season, and that guarantees them a spot in the NIT Tournament. 2 years ago the Bruins made it to Round 3 of the NIT, and we know that they are hungry for SOMETHING in post-season play. We won’t know what we are seeded or who we will be playing until Sunday night after Selection Sunday’s NCAA teams are announced, but
