Basketball time. Halfway through the season. It was game night. I was nervous. I always got nervous for basketball games. So after school I’m getting all my stuff ready and I’m putting on my basketball uniform. I had to get fired up. So I listened to some Kanye West. Ok. I was ready. My mom drove me to my game. I put my bag in the locker room. I go out on the court and warm up with the other girls. I’m getting even more nervous. BUUZZZ. That’s the buzzer. Time to go bring it in. Our coach talks to us and tells us the play to run first. I wasn’t a starter or anything. So I sat on the bench waiting to go in. The jump ball had started. Our team got the ball. During half of the first quarter, Coach told me to go in. I went in. I did my part and I played ok. …show more content…
Coach took me out during the second quarter and gave me a break. I went back in after half time, and I said to myself that I wanted to make a basket, so on defense I was gonna get the rebound and run to the other side to make a shot for our team. Our team ws up by plenty of points so we didn’t need to worry or anything. But I hadn’t made one that game so I really wanted to. I didn’t get the rebound on offense but another girl on my team did so we all sprinted down the court. One of my teammates shot the ball. They missed. So it was my chance to get the rebound and put the shot back up. I was under the basket ready to rebound, and I did. I put the ball back up and missed the shot. But I got the rebound again, and shot it again, and missed again. People were getting a kick out of that. This process happened at least five more times. I never did make that basket, but I had a total of seven rebounds in a row in one possession. Some girl on the other team got the eighth rebound. It was actually really funny. I was ashamed at first but I saw smiles on everyone's face so that made me feel better. Coach told me good job for sticking in
Our first game was at 9, but the players were supposed to be there at 8, so I thought that I should be there. Because it was a round robin, when I got to the gym East Grand and Steamboat were playing. I was beginning to get nervous because I did not want to let down the players that I was coaching. When the game that was going on reached the fourth quarter, I took my players to the locker room and went over our game plan. The game before ours ended, and my players began to warm up. I was getting more nervous now; this was the first time I had ever coached, and I did not feel like I was qualified enough to be coaching. Sure, I have been playing basketball since third grade, but I did not think that I should be coaching. The game started, and I soon realized that my patience level was not as high as I thought. I never was mean or yelled negatively; I tried to constructively help the players. During the whole game we were doing really well, and I was super happy. The players were running their offense and doing well on defense. During the end of the game I was feeling really well because I knew we were gonna
It was a cold and snowy night when I showed up to my first basketball practice. I was confident I was going to do well because I played basketball every day. When i walked into Adobe to go to practice I was ten minutes early. As soon as I walked in my coach walked up to me and introduced himself and his son which was also on the team. After that we kind of just stood outside the gym till the basketball team before us left the gym so we could start our first practice of the season. When we got into the gym we got told to sit on the bleachers and after about a minute or two the coach walked over to the team and he made us introduce ourselves to the team. The first person who had to go first was Dom he was the coach’s
Play by play, we played good D, made deep shots, and made all our contested layups. At the end of the game we won, 45-28! We crushed them in the second half, and at that moment I knew we could beat our #1 rival, St Augustine's. A month and a half later after all these practices and scrimmages, gameday! December, it was snowing so hard that if you went outside and took more than 10 steps, you would slip and fall. It was as cold as Alaska!! So my mom was taking me to the basketball game at Saint Anthony's and once she started driving, the car made a weird uncommon sound. She ignored the sound and then she continued to drive, so after a good 5 minutes the car started to slip and slide. The game was so close from starting and my mom started thinking I couldn’t go. Once she said that I rapidly answered and said “NOOO mom I have to go”. I started getting nervous because if I miss the game everyone was going to ask me “ why wasn’t I at the game”. Later on, my mom says I am not going to drop you off to the game. The game started at 7:00 and the time at the moment was 7:05. I was panicking and was so upset that I was late to the
It was a brutal score by the start of the 4th quarter. If we lost, we would be out. I was ready to take control of this game If my teammates were going to give up on me but I couldn’t do it by myself. Our lineup walked on the court and they started with the ball. I continually shouted to not give any shots to their team and to play hard and aggressive defense. We came up with the steal and I ran the fast break. As I went up for a layup, I was vigorously shoved to the floor and I was slow to get up. I knew I had to keep playing whether I was hurt or not. I walked up to the free throw line, in pain, hoping the referees wouldn’t pull me out of the game. I made both free throws and kept playing hard. With almost 10 seconds left, it was a tie ball game and my leg was bulking up with pain. We had the ball, and I was the one to take the last shot. I received the ball off of a roll and picked it up and held it for 8 seconds and shot it with 3 seconds left. It missed, clanked off the rim and I got my own rebound and put it back up and scored with 3 tenths of a second left. We had just one this game. I was proud of myself for keeping my composure and came to a conclusion that taking leadership IS how you get things
I walk into the Humid, Uncomfortable gymnasium for the first day of the most stressful thing anyone has to go through tryouts, Basketball tryouts. It was a dreadful three days being the smallest guy on the court and hoping to get a spot, but the only thing i could do was my best. But things didn't go as planned and that is sometimes a good thing, It's the third day of tryouts and the last as we are waiting to see if we made or not i hear my name and a few others get called into the coach's office my heart drops and my palms start to sweat and I walk in and he says with a soft voice “ you guys have potential and are good but didn't quite make the cut” and I was upset but who knew it was for the better. That night wrestling was already the word being tossed around in my house and it was definitely on
Hmm… It’s sunny outside and it’s clear. There is a volleyball net out the right side of the window. In the distance there is a garbage can sitting in the parking lot. The basketball goals standing tall in the sun light. It’s very nice outside and a beautiful day. There's a slightly dark blue bench sitting in the dusk.
There were two halls one for boys and one for the girls. My team were on first; nervously I stepped on to the court with hundreds of eyes watching. I took the position of small forward which is the person who plays the number three role, they need to act like a big player getting inside but also be able to guard. The game tipped off and got off to a flying start, end to end action. The game was fast pace and intense everyone was hungry to get a place. Overall the game went well; I scored a few and contributed a few assists. Of the course of the night more and more games went on, to be honest I didn’t really have a bad game. I was happy with how I performed in the games but now it was time to rest before the long bus journey home. I plugged my earphones in, Jimi Hendrix blaring from them and head for some food. As I excepted the food wasn’t your Michelin star quality, more like your primary school dinners but after an exhausting day I was starving and the food seemed like
The last time I was at a event was at the Marquette basketball game. When we arrived we walked in and showed the security guards our tickets. They ripped the paper part of the ticket off and tossed it into the garbage. It smelled like sweet nuts and body odor as we got past the first check. After, we started walking to our seats. We had to walk up a lot of stairs to get to our destination. When we got there and the people asked if we needed anything, we all said not at the moment but maybe in a little while. When I sat down, I saw a huge sea of blue and yellow Marquette jerseys and a couple red ones for the opposing team. There was 3 minutes until game time and they were flying around a large blimp with t-shirts looped to the bottom to drop.
The end of November was one of the most important days of my basketball career. I was trying out for the junior basketball team to represent this school, P.G.S.S. It was a really nervous experience for me but, I had known some people that were trying out, including one of my best friends. When the tryouts were over, I was the last one that wasn’t called up yet. In my head I was thinking,” I didn’t make it.” Then couch Troye and Jenni called me up and told me there is a spot on the team, and it is mine if I want it.
Comin In HighSchool I really wanted to play for the basketball team. I would go to Xsport Fitness everyday and practice until I could not walk. I loved everything about playing basketball. I really liked the fans who would come and support my team. Basketball would help from all the trouble around my area. At the beginning of year I went to Coach Kelly and told him “I'm going to play for your basketball team”. He looked straight at me it felt like he was looking straight into my soul. He nodded and said “ok” I then left. I been doing good in school the first 2 months of my freshman year. I was getting good grade until tryouts. I was focusing so much on to making the team my grades stared to slip.
It was my first day of Grade 10, I didn’t want to go through being that new kid and having the thought of life being so complicated again but this time I had a reminder that if I went through it 6 years ago and turned out fine, I can do it again. It was very difficult at first because I had to spend lunch time alone and no one to talk to in class. I’m a very outgoing person and make friends easily or so I’ve been told, so after two weeks, I have made new friends. Two of the people I had made friends with Helen and Mika, were on the basketball team and I had told them I’ve always wanted to join basketball. They were begging me to join the team. The first day of tryout I didn’t want to go, I've never joined a sport before so I had this sick feeling that I wouldn’t make the cut, surprisingly I did. I was in grade 10 so I was in the junior team but we would always practice with the seniors because my coach wanted us to do really good for that season. On my first ever game, I went on the court with a lot of confidence and didn’t feel anxious at all. I shot two points at my first game and that made me feel so good about myself. I grew really close with my team and bonded really well with them. At the end of the season, we won all of our league games and the championship
On a bright sunny Saturday afternoon, the sun was pounding, and Anthony decided to go outside to play basketball. Besides it being ninety degrees out he practiced like he was Michael Jordan. The sound of the ball swishing is like heaven to him. With a big, bright smile on his face he looks at the rim, and is set up ready to take a free throw. He gets in position, shoots, and makes it! He looked around him to see that his neighbor was having trouble with her groceries. Her two kids were screaming, and hanging on her like she was a playground. He notices she was on the phone, and she was yelling at them, so he ran over.
In that moment I thought it was all over. I was in a battle with my best friend, one I knew I would eventually lose. When my basketball coach initially uttered the words implying that we had to fight for the starting point guard position I knew she was already one step ahead of me. She had the skill, but I was still willing to work for the spot. After that confrontation we each got a chance to start a game to show our coach what we could do. I was up first, it was a game that we were expected to win, a game that came with a lot of pressure. I choked. We almost lost. I couldn’t keep possession of the ball, I was shaking, and I wanted to completely give up. I finished the game only to hear from my coach that I won’t see the floor as much as
It was a Saturday morning and I had a basketball game at ten o’ clock. I got dressed and prepared for the game. My breakfast consisted of frosted flakes. It was nine fifteen and I had to be at my game thirty minutes early. We rushed out the door and were in the car. My brother, who was in the car, had a tennis tournament today after my basketball game. My mom, who driving the car, asked me to make sure I had everything. I responded saying that I had everything. A few seconds after my response I realised I had forgotten my water bottle. There was no way I going back or I’d be late.
It was a Wednesday afternoon when some of my friends Brandon, Shea, and Colton and a enormous amount of other people and I went to the Auxiliary gym to play some basketball. After we warmed up we played a large number of games and the series was tied 2-2. In all the games we played 5-5 with some subs. The scoring in the games were commonly consistent. During the last game, the score was tied and there team had the ball. Then we got a stop on their side of the court then we went of a fast break
