A dollar is all it takes to donate to UCF student organization Cupcakes for a Cure. In return, you treat yourself to a snack and help an organization provide support for children with cancer.
All of the proceeds from the cupcakes go to an organization called BASE Camp, an Orlando-based children’s cancer foundation that provides year-round support for children suffering from cancer and other life threatening illnesses.
The best part of the club, is helping raise money for the children and families supported by BASE Camp, said the club’s President Hansee Karamchandani.
Families like mother and daughter, Jackie and Simone Ellis. Simone—who was diagnosed with aggressive fibromatosis—was 17 years old when she received an invitation from BASE
The Saint Jude Bike-a-thon was a fundraiser my high school’s JROTC program ran every year to raise money for Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a unique facility that primarily works to cure children with cancer. Unlike other hospitals, the majority of funding for St. Jude comes from generous donors. It costs $2 million to operate
Throughout WWII, people of different countries were interned and imprisoned in camps all over the world. Japanese-Americans on the West Coast were taken out of their homes and placed in internment camps like Manzanar to detain them from communicating with Japan. Families were torn apart in these camps, leaving them scattered across the United States. The Japanese-Americans were deprived of the claim of habeas corpus, and soon they attempted to return to the life that they lived before the war. Even after Camp Manzanar was closed and World War II ended, Japanese-American families on the West Coast still experienced prejudice and unfairness in their new lives.

I want to work at camp because I would like to give back. I have attended MFU camp for the past 11 years and I want to give back to MFU and the experience that I had during my years at camp. I would like to make an impact on kids’ lives and help create amazing memories, just like how previous councilors have done for me. I want to help change kids’ lives and give them a week that they will not forget.

“Honoring the fallen by helping the wounded.” This is Camp Hope’s motto. Can you image what soldiers go through? Soldiers risk their lives to keep us safe. How can we repay them? I believe one way that we could repay them is through Camp Hope.
Star Camp was the largest of the five satellite camps, containing eighteen barracks. It held Jewish inmates that were appointed for exchange. These prisoners did not wear the usual concentration camp garbs but instead were allowed to wear their own clothes. However, they were forced to wear a yellow Star of David, which gave that camp the name of star camp.
Summer Hill is already a village-like suburb in Sydney’s Inner West region, but there is more to this post code than atmosphere. It’s so close to Sydney’s CBD there’s no need to leave; everything you need can be found within the confines of this quaint suburb. If you want to go into the city, it’s only a 15 to 20-minute train ride. Most residents consider it to be one of the Inner West’s best kept secrets.
Many units where on picket duty around the encampment or part of the quartermaster and commissary department to gather supplies in the surrounding
Camp Shalom, a home away from home. Camp Shalom is a Christian camp that has been apart of my life for the past 9 years. Starting at 2nd grade kids can start going to camp for “mini camp” a camp for two days and one night. Then, when kids reach the 4th grade they are in the “village.” This is a section of camp with kids in the grades 4, 5, and 6. When kids reach 7th grade they go to “outpost.” Outpost is similar to village but with older kids. After you are done being a camper you have the opportunity to be an assistant counselor. Being an assistant counselor is when my life truly started to change.

When students are involved they get the nutrition and food they need along with the skill sets needed to become employed in the future. The help the children organization adds into this by using a donation program through their website. With the donations they purchase mass amounts of food to deliver to churches, senior citizen faculties, woman shelters, recovery programs, and more. Help the children delivers on average 1.7 million pounds of bulk food each month, making that 35 tons each work day.
