During my recent time in the CDC I have seen a lot of things both good and bad. I have visited the Blue, purple and the rainbow room. All of the rooms are different sue to the ages in the children so the disciplinary actions are different. In the blue room, the teacher teaches the children to use their words, that crying Is not the way to get what they want. One day I was in that room and there were two children that were arguing about a toy in the drama center the teacher took both the children aside and asked them who was in the center first, once the question was answered she then asked if it would be okay if the one child was able to play with the toy when he was finish with it. Instead of just yelling at the children for arguing in the
John Harrington actually changed my life. In fact, he changed everybody's life. He invented the toilet but never got credit for it. Everyone may not give him credit but I will because I use his invention everyday. He was actually an average person until he thought of the flush toilet. He was hoping for big money but instead he got nothing, not even attention until today where we now found out that he was the mastermind behind this lifesaving invention.
At Children’s Discovery Center the daycare is split into two buildings, one building is for the children in pre-school and the second building is for infants to three year olds getting ready to start pre- school. The classroom I observe is for children 18 months to 28 months. They are about fourteen children in the class with two teachers. The way the class is set up the younger students and their two teachers share one classroom, but the teachers and their toddlers are not in the same room until lunch time and nap time. The classroom has a kitchen, reading area, girls and boys bathroom, activity tables and there is a connecting room for the children to have bible time and free play. The discovery center has three separate playgrounds for the
The center has stricter policies against what children can and cannot say, express, state, draw, etc. Although some of these restrictions may be enforced to prevent dangerous or unsafe conditions (such as juveniles showing territorial enemy gang signs to one another) this still stunts their learning experience. Juveniles in these centers are not guaranteed “to have pleasurable experiences” nor “to avoid nonbeneficial pain” (Young, 1990).
It is essential that all staff have a consistent and fair approach when dealing with children and young people. Children find it easier to display positive behaviour when they know what is expected of them. When the boundaries and rules are unclear children can become confused and may not be sufficiently developed enough to be able to articulate their confusion. As a result their behaviour may deteriorate as they find other ways to express their frustration. When the rules and boundaries are clear and applied consistently by all adults children will feel much happier and safe.
On Saturday November 4th, I visited Maine South High School to observe the athletic training room facility. I had emailed the Head Athletic Trainer, Jerry Bornhoff prior to my attendance to make sure I was allowed to shadow him for the day. A Maine South football game was scheduled for the afternoon, and the facility was packed with football players. Throughout the time I was there, I made sure I noted the whole process of an athlete from when they first arrived and when they left the training room facility.
On July 04 2017, at approximately 6:34PM I, Sgt. Bowring was investigating criminal mischief that had taken place at Lake Holbrook near the point. While myself and Deputy George where speaking to two individuals possibly involved in the criminal mischief an unknown female advised Deputy George that there was a fight in the Men’s Restroom that was located approximately 20 yrds away from our location.
On 03/25/2015, at approximately 1214 hours, your affiant was dispatched via radio by Schuylkill County communication center to 209 East Centre Street for a break and enter into a structure.
Another interaction was when the teacher was reading a story, two kids were taking during she was reading. The teacher said to them to stop and listen and they did. Another interaction between the teacher and the children was encouraging the upset child Kayln. He liked to be alone all the time, and he wasn’t an active child. When the time of the outside activity was done, the teacher asked him to enjoy the group in music area, but he refused and kept being alone and then the teacher asked him to draw something then he did. I noticed there were many redirections to the children. For example, one child was drawing and colored all over the paper and the table got messy, then I told him the paper is used for drawing and the tables are for toys. Then he drew again and wasn’t messy like the first time. The teacher was using effective technique to teach the children when one child tried to be alone and was shy, and the teacher changed the environment of the child and he became less shy. During my lab time I learned many important things, like I learned the best thing which was to wait first and see if the children can solve problems by
Hi everyone, I am observing on Wednesdays from 8-10 and Fridays 3-4 in Cuesta Children’s Center Preschool 2. I believe a child’s environment can affect their mood, social skills, ability to learn, mental health, and physical health. These essential elements need to be meet or it will affect their adult lives. I feel the Cuesta Center does a remarkable job of offering all of these, and has wonderful transitions throughout the day. I enjoy observing the teachers modeling acceptable class room behaviors, asking open-ended questions while using descriptive language to help to expand children’s speech, and they were engaged in the children’s presents. I was engrossed with how the class offers multiple opportunities for children to broaden their
A ten year boy suicidal because other children were teasing him. It is important to us to speak good and positive words of love in the champions club. We also don’t condone any child that is saying something offensive to other students. The curriculum is designed so that each lesson has a vocabulary exercise with visual supports. There are pictures that illustrate the meaning of each vocabulary words when possible. We have a bell that alerts them when it is lesson time that is used to capture their attention, before instructions sometimes we have to count off to indicate that it’s time to put the toys and Ipads away. Positive directions are given rather than negative directions, we also allow wait time so that students are given opportunity to process the information before asking any questions. We teach how to identify and express feelings through the use of feeling paddles. We have role play activities in every lesson, we also use scripture memorization techniques to incorporate verbal full body movements in each lesson which we encourage expressive language. As a church organization the politics are bare and minimum. The big issues we face are that our kids don’t come in frequently sometimes we see them once every other month or once a year. In that period a lot can change within their development and our aim is to
This was the beginning of a new life for Beah; nonetheless, this would be one of the hardest experiences that Beah will go through. For instance, Beah was not used to civilians ordering him around. For example, he even became angry when they would inform him that breakfast was about to be served. One requirement of the center was that each child received medical follow-ups and a one-on-one session with a counselor. The boys refused to do this and acted out in delinquent behaviors. For instance, the boys threw boys, chairs, food, and utensils at the staff. The boys acted out because they were not used to being told what to do by civilians and they craved drugs such as marijuana and cocaine. As time went on, Beah became more frustrated and violent
In conclusion, observing in Lewis E. Wadsworth elementary school with Mrs. Poland was an amazing experience. As I said in the beginning it was my childhood dream come true. I have always wanted to work with children who struggle in academics and everyday life. It has always been a passion thriving inside of me. I have already made plans to continue volunteering with Mrs. Poland and Mrs. Byrne’s. Mrs. Byrne is the EBD teacher. I was able to meet her in person today Friday September 11th. She has such a heart for these children as well. I would like to add she has incorporated many calming techniques in her classroom to help keep the children relaxed and comfortable. She was explaining to me how she first started off a few years back
If you listen close enough, to really the only object making any sort of noise in the entire building, you could hear the air conditioning vents pumping air to counteract the Riverside heat. The corridors were long and skinny, and only lit by the light from outside. The “pitter-patter” of your footsteps bounced off the walls and slowly fainted in pitch as you moved down the hall. The rooms on the side were just as dark, if not darker, with no one around at the mere afternoon hours. Walk far enough in this prison-like building and you would reach the front, where there is a three-ring-binder that says on the cover “Early Childhood Services.” This obviously was not a prison at all, it is the University of California, Riverside’s Child Development Center. I had the opportunity to walk around and explore both of the buildings that they have; unfortunately, it was during nap time. Therefore, I could not ask any of the children what they thought of the school, but I am sure my comparison of a prison was not too far-fetched. In contrast, many students clearly love it by the numerous decorations on the walls. From various pumpkin creations for Halloween to cut-outs of the wide-range fall leafs. The school hosts infants to kindergarteners to allow for students and professors at the University to ensure that their child receives the proper care and attention they deserve for proper development. The classrooms are designed so that the door is on the right and the student’s proud art is
As I walked from my car to the front doors, I saw the parking lot was clean and carts were neatly in corrals. The outside and inside of the store I saw were clean and in order. I walked through Produce and found the products to be fresh and wholesome. The Hot Bar/Deli was well staffed and products were fresh and looked just made. Dave helped me with a sample. He had a great smile and a laughing tone. I really liked his attitude. Bakery products looked tempting with that fresh made appearance. I found the Men’s restroom to be clean and bright.
