The Revolutionary War has just ended and the Americans have won. We will finally have freedom and independence. The battle of Trenton and Princeton was a key battle to the Patriot’s victory. Before the battles, British forces had been driving the Continental Army out of New York. On November 16, the British overran Fort Washington in Manhattan. In the end 2,000 soldiers were captured. ____________________________________ ___________________________________
Crossing the Delaware General George Washington planned a daring battle on the Hessian garrison in Trenton, New Jersey. He planned a three prong attack that would include 2,400 soldiers from Washington's army. 1,900 men led under Colonel John Cadwalader were going to flank the British and 700 soldiers led under General James Ewings were going to block the British from getting passed them.
On December 25, 1776 the Americans started their 19 mile journey. They had to travel through a freezing storm and icy water in canoes while carrying cannons. In the end both generals were not able to carry out their part of the plan. When the soldiers arrived, they were cold and short on supplies.

He had received warnings of the Patriot’s movements but his men were unprepared and exhausted for the attack. Rumors spread that they were drunk from Christmas celebrations, but are unconfirmed. As the Patriots approached town, Washington broke his men up into groups, flanking men were led by General Nathaniel Greene and General John Sullivan and men who fired cannons on Garrison were lead by Henry Knox. The Americans had an advantage because Rall tried but could not rally his men into forming a defensive perimeter. John Rall would later be shot from his horse and was wounded. The Hessians surrendered and the Patriots had a successful victory. In the end 22 were killed, 92 wounded, 918 captured and 400
