Bayer AG is a German multinational chemical and pharmaceutical company which primarily works in the areas of Veterinary drugs, diagnostic imaging, general and special medicine, women’s health products, over-the-counter drugs, diabetes care ,pesticides, plant biotechnology, polymer coating and adhesives. Bayer has several subsidiaries such as Bayer material science, Bayer Corporation, Bayer Schering Pharma, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals and Bayer crop science Bayer group of companies in India has a strong history of 112 years and established itself as a company manufacturing world class products and runs many social responsibility projects such as child labour campaign and well known for its earliest responses to the emergency situations occurs due to the natural disasters.
Three years ago, while working as an Area sales manager for Bayer group of companies in India I got an opportunity to hire the sales manager for one of the branch in New Zealand, which for me was a big task as I had to hire a suitable person for overseas and made him familiar with the work environment and other factors that could affect his performance. Merck is among the largest pharmaceutical organization found in the United States of America. It is ranked as one of the successful medical companies in the entire world. It plays a very significant role within the entire medical industry. It was founded in the year 1891 as a subset of the parent company located in Germany. During the year 1945, the company was incorporated as a full American company through the tutelage of the United States government. Its market coverage is broad in the area of offering pharmaceutical services. It is attributed to the high investment on research and development along with competent human resource on board.
The company’s major markets are Pharmaceutical which comprise of human health and vaccine products, namely, Human health products which constitute therapeutic and preventive agents and Vaccine products which constitute preventive pediatric, adolescent and adult vaccines. Additionally, they manufacture Animal health products and Consumer care (over-the-counter) such as Foot care and Sun care. Unfortunately, the company sold these over-the-counter products on October 1, 2014.
And it produces revenue of more than $600. Other than that, it employs 2000 scientists and technicians. The company produces over 210 generic drugs in 4000 dosages and fill over 89 million prescriptions a year. Its products can be found in every healthcare centers or pharmacies in Canada. It distributes drugs for number of diseases that include cancer, high cholesterol, infections, diabetes and bold pressure. Moreover BMS operates its facilities in several countries including Belgium, France, Brazil, China, England, Ireland, Italy the UK and Japan.

This company is part of the pharmaceutical industry which is a very strong and influential industry. Novartis is also in this industry and is a competitor of Merck.
On the opposite hand, alone, Polysar had a product of superior quality and there was a chance of non-allied market penetration which would subsequently drive Bayer out of the market completely. Although the traditional Polysar approach of complete independence and direct competition with the two other contenders in this segment would mean increased potential rewards and profits, it should not be forgotten that the risks would be much greater and the investments much higher.
