The overall product of BBC's Macbeth was very well done. Although I did not enjoy every part, many aspects of the film seemed thoroughly thought over and carefully interpreted from the book. The overall picture complimented the story of Macbeth; the dull and dark color scheme goes hand in hand with the murderous plot.
The director did a good job matching the picture to William Shakespeare’s dark plot. Macbeth is a very dark piece of theater, having low-key lighting gives the sense that darkness is radiating out of the characters. The lighting was very low-key, giving the film even more gloom. It feels like the darkness of the characters’ thoughts are leaking out, shadowing the environment. Along with the lighting adding to the tone of the
Ambition and evil are the basic elements in William Shakespeare"s Macbeth. Macbeth is a tragedy which was written by Shakespeare in the Elizabethan Era. There was much use of Raphael Holinshed"s Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland as it was necessary for creating the environments and situations in the play. Macbeth takes place mainly in Scotland and is a play about an ambitious thane, named Macbeth, and his wife whose flaws lead to their demise. Since Macbeth is a tragedy, probably nothing else would be as suitable for the play than darkness imagery.
Both of the videos “RS company version” and “PBS company version” reveal the darkness in Macbeth. There are two elements that help to create this sensation and atmosphere of darkness. First, the setting of the videos, both of the videos have elements that create a sensation of darkness that makes the viewer want to leave that place as soon as possible. Second, the characters increase the apprehension and uneasiness with their clothing, makeup, facial features, otherworldly body language, tone and dialect. The witches’ chanting creates an evil tone in the air that gives the viewer chills, like the reaction one gets by listening when listening to fingernails scratching against a blackboard.
This 2010 version of the movie Macbeth was an effective interpretation of the book, although, it was ineffective at capturing my attention and entertaining me, which was the whole purpose of a movie: to entertain you. It only captured my attention at the end, when Macduff brought back Macbeth’s decapitated
Shakespeare’s play ‘Macbeth’ is about the leading male protagonist succumbing to his ambition and need for power. Though Macbeth is liable for his own actions, he is not solely responsible for the events that eventually result in his downfall. Macbeth is corrupted by his wife, Lady Macbeth, as well as the three weird sisters. Macbeth’s contribution towards his downfall is his strong ambitious nature. Lady Macbeth is the person who induces Macbeth to assassinate King Duncan. The three weird sisters (witches) play with Macbeth’s ambitious nature and sense of security. Macbeth’s downfall is due to himself and two external factors.
Madjeena Philippe Ms.Dalton English 01/08/16 Macbeth Analytical Paragraph #2 In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare uses the witches and the three apparitions they told to Macbeth,(which was Shakespeare’s understanding of the supernatural at this time),to foreshadow the outcome of the play of Macbeth’s downfall. First, the witches’ gather as Hecate ordered and produced a series ominous visions for Macbeth that herald his downfall. The three witches’ exclaimed “Macbeth! Macbeth!
As a virgin to The Shakespeare Theatre, I was pleasantly surprised when my recent encounter with Macbeth was a stimulating and enjoyable excursion. The two and a half hours I had predicted to be less than enchanting were filled with symbolism, and an overall attitude towards the Shakespeare classic that I had never contemplated before.
Not surprisingly, Macbeth has received volumes of critical commentary over the years. Not only is the play an audience favorite, but its complex characterization, deeply woven themes, and characteristic Shakespearean style make it rich ground for scholarly inquiry. Critics such as Harold Bloom have remarked on the importance of Macbeth in the context of Shakespeare 's works. In Shakespeare: The Invention of the Human, Bloom writes, ' 'The rough magic in Macbeth is wholly Shakespeare 's; he indulges his own imagination as never before, seeking to find its moral limits (if any). ' ' Bloom also remarks, ' 'Macbeth is an uncanny unity of setting, plot, and characters, fused together beyond comparison with any other play of Shakespeare 's. '
Shakespeare's shortest play, Macbeth, is also, consequently, his most shocking and intense. We see the essence of tragedy: in this case, the protagonist transforms himself from a noble warrior who is loyal to his king and fights for his county to a reduced tyrant by the play's end. Macbeth's divided soul which is in turmoil is the cause of his deterioration from a respected warrior to a despised tyrant.
Shakespeare’s Macbeth introduces us to the character Lady Macbeth which is by far his most famous and terrifying female character. When Shakespeare’s Macbeth was performed in the early 1600’s the storyline was something familiar, something that was factual during that era rather than fictional. Not taking away from history or a good story, Shakespeare changed a few particular details of the story. Lady Macbeth character is one of the most important key changes we see in this play, not only is she ambitious, cruel, and dishonest but she also goes against the typical role of a woman governed by a patriarchal society. Lady Macbeth also uses her skills to advance her and her husband up the political scale while being a woman. How does Lady Macbeth 's performance differ from an Elizabethan woman? I as reader can conclude that Lady Macbeth differs from the typical Elizabethan woman because she is persuasive and male oriented, cruel, and more determined than her husband. Throughout the play Shakespeare gives a few details to support my claims.
‘Macbeth’ a Scottish play known as one of Shakespeare’s best plays was written in 1611 by William Shakespeare, during that time King James the 1st was the king of Scotland, the Jacobean times was a time where people had a fascination with witches and witchcraft, ‘Daemonolgie’ was a book written by King James the 1st himself, this was about ways to spot a witch, which intrigued people. Since ‘Macbeth’ has a Scottish theme Shakespeare may have written this play to please King James since there is references to Banquo which is a direct descendant of King James, also it is said that Banquo wasn’t a very nice man but Shakespeare presents him as very loyal and kind person
When comparing the book Macbeth by Shakespeare, and the movie Macbeth directed by Justin Kurzel a few differences occur. One difference being the order in which the witches presented in the novel and movie. In the book, the witches are presented in the first act and first scene, whereas the witches in the movie are shown after Macbeth’s fight scene. Also in this scene, the witches say the “Fair is foul and foul is fair” chant separately, whereas in the book the witches say this chant in unison at the end of the scene. The reasons behind these changes vary, from making more logical sense to other to how “creepy” the director could lay the movie out. Although in the book version of Macbeth the chant the witches say in unison makes more sense because of its purpose of foreshadowing for what later happens in Macbeth, the director uses this scene to incorporate a spooky feeling towards the beginning of the movie, primarily using their tones and physical appearance to portray the book, rather than using the meaning of the words to portray the book.
For spectacle in this scene, lighting design and musical will be pivotal in setting the tone. The lights should play with the grimness of the set, casting shadows and creating a sense of depth to the scene. As the conversation grows grimmer, the lights start to dim and redden. The silhouette around Lady Macbeth and Macbeth will gradually shrink and shrink. The audience will start to feel trapped and claustrophobic as the lights are an extension of how trapped and harassed Macbeth is in this scene. Also, the scene ought to use background music to increase the tone. It should be varied however. For example, during monologues light classical

In life, there are two types of people: those who do the right thing and those who don’t. In the play Macbeth, by Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth is given a prophecy by three witches that says he will become king; however, there is no descending line of kings of his own blood. With the knowledge of the Witches’ prophecy, Macbeth’s ambition, and manipulation from his wife, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth is quickly dragged into a never-ending, bloody murder rampage to obtain the crown and get rid of those who stand in the way of obtaining it as well. Macbeth constantly battles with his moral dilemmas; however, he easily falls victim to influences that go against his morals. Influences on major characters emphasize how easily one’s decision making can be negatively affected, resulting in one going against his or her morals/integrity.
As he degenerates, he becomes more deluded about his invulnerability and more emboldened. What he gains in will and confidence is counterbalanced and eventually toppled by the iniquitous weight of the events he set
