Many people look at those who are successful and think it is so simple. An example, Slash from Guns N' Roses, he makes shredding on guitar look simple. THE ORIGIN OF ROCK AND ROLL The history of American popular music involves all the kinds of music such as rock and roll, jazz, blues, and many other principal genres of African American music. The origin comes when said: “The blue had a baby and they called it Rock and Roll” (Morgan, 649). Rock and Roll is a genre of music which “was born sometime in the 1950s”, but it was influenced by eighteenth century music (Morgan, 650). These included jazz and swing and led to the beginning to Rock and Roll through traditional folk music.

I am one of those rare “millennials” who appreciate pop culture from the past. I don’t forget about them; I carry them. I got into rock ‘n roll music since I was born. To me, rock ‘n roll music made me the man I am today.

Music is constantly evolving, from the instruments to the technology. Today there are many genres that one can relate to such as pop, indie, jazz etc. However, there is a genre that swept the nation years ago and is the main reason we have most of the genres today. Rock and Roll is an influential genre which has many historic artists. This specific genre uses many different instruments and was successful due to many different aspects.

The music was opening eyes of the youth and showing them the cruelties of America. Elvis Presley began to rise on the music scene, his music was showing “rebellion as an eye-opening style”(Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and The Rock of the Sixties). It wasn’t until 1962 that the generation had found a music to truly fit their desire for music. Originating in Liverpool, England, The Beatles, a band that captured the essence of being a cultural outsider. One of the greatest genres of music Rock and Roll evolved in the United States in the late 1940’s early 1950’s. This genre was known to be a mixture of gospel, blues, jazz, western swing, and country music. There are countless altered types of rock songs which means they can use different instruments but a few common instruments are drums, bass guitar, piano, and vocals which makes it a unique genre because although it is the same genre, each rock songs uses its own instruments and it’ll still make rock and roll music. The band Sonic Youth was brought to the New York hardcore scene in the 1980s. Like a lot of rock bands the Sonic Youth was started by two college dropouts. Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore moved to New York City and became encouraged by the artistic scene of New York. They fell in to the “underground” music world, which had formed after the fall in popularity of punk music. The bands of New York were driven toward a new sound in music.
