Do people judge others from how they look? Today, I will be talking about two books/movies that talk about appearance. Then I will talk about how humans and society react to appearance. In the book of Wonder, there's a boy named August with a facial deformity, and he is treated very differently. In the movie Beauty and the Beast there’s a prince who was cursed to be a beast. In order to get rid of the curse he had to find love before the last petal of the rose fell that the witch gave him. In these two stories, the beast and August are both ugly on the outside and are very different from other humans. (finish) These two stories are also very similar in many ways. Both August and the beast are ugly on the outside, but they
Most modern fairytales are expected to have happy endings and be appropriate for children, nonetheless, in past centuries most were gruesome. Consequently, fairytales have been modified throughout time. The stories “Beauty and the Beast” by Jeanne-Marie LePrince de Beaumont and “The Summer and Winter Garden” by Jacob and Wilherm Grimm share similarities and differences. The two stories are distinct because of the peculiar year they have been written in. LePrince de Beaumont’s story is written in London of 1783 and Grimm’s in Germany of 1812. At the time, wealthy people in London, were educated and had nannies who would read to their children; whereas, in Germany, the Grimm brothers created their own interpretation into a short story.
The story of the Beauty and the Beast is well known amongst all ages. Though the story they portray in the Disney version is much different than what they have portrayed it in France. La Belle et la Bête has been produced twice, once in 1946 and again in 2014. These two movies tell the same story but in very different ways. The perception of this story has changed between the different time periods.
Personal Looks: As humans we are visual creatures and highly value looks and personal looks in specific. Though it is acceptable to value how we look there is a darker side of the issues of personal looks. Many individuals both male and female are not satisfied with their looks leading into some disturbing
In the novel Wonder, the main character ,August, has a deformed face and struggles to be equal with other kids. For example, August tries to fit in, but Many people do not understand that treating others with respect and equality is important. They might be other people that don't have the same race, color, or gender ;however, people should still delight others with equality and respect.
“Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in awhile, or the light won't come in.” This was a quote from Isaac Asimov, and I thought it fit with the topic of my paper very well. In Spike Lee's film Inside Man there is a recurring theme about the assumptions of people based on how he or she looks. Inside Man does a good job of pointing out the stereotypes the typical American would see in a person.
Everyone looks different from each other . Some are considered more attractive than others . This has caused many problems in our human race . This is because of the judgment of people based on their outward appearance . This actions caused many problems and are shown by the characters in the stories read this semester . Those characters were victims of been judged because of their outward appearance . This result in different types of effects such as being Stereotyped as a criminal , Also not been accepted because of who they want to be . Another effect is that some have lost their self-confidence .
People always say don’t judge a book by its cover, yet constantly, we all do it. We pick up a book and immediately, by instinct, we judge it by what we see. It is the same for all things in life. It is only human nature to judge things based on appearance. We look at how someone or something appears, and without even trying, we make assumptions or judge that thing, person, or situation. Throughout my semester in English 10A, I have come across many situations in which appearance affects the thoughts or lives of characters in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time-Indian, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Merchant of Venice, and our Holocaust Unit.
Finding the similarities and differences between two things using just the brain and memories can be difficult sometimes. Using the internet, books, and movies can be extremely beneficial when it comes to comparing and contrasting. Something good to compare and contrast , that is very popular, would be Beauty and The Beast, as there is an original book, a cartoon, and a remake movie. What is your favorite book that has a movie made about it?
“Beauty and The Beast” is a classic well known romantic Disney movie that depicts the gender role of men and women in society. The film is based upon a smart young female protagonist named Belle who is imprisoned by a self-centered young prince after he has been turned into a beast. They both learn to love each other in the end and throughout the film there are several examples shown portraying the roles of gender. In the film the main characters Gaston and the Beast portray themselves as rude, conceited and more important than the woman even though the main character Belle is a woman whom is considered odd, yet smart, and unrelated to most women in society.
Both the protagonists in the Beauty in the Beast trope display the characteristics of Stockholm syndrome. Beauty and the Beast is a tale that has withstood time. The tale can be traced back to 2nd century AD Cupid and Psyche by Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis. Stockholm syndrome is “a psychological syndrome in which a person being held captive begins to identify with and grow sympathetic to his or her captor” (Stockholm Syndrome 1). There are three main psychological characteristics to Stockholm syndrome, the first being that the hostage develops positive feelings towards their captor, the second being that the captor also develops feelings for the hostage, and the final one being that the hostage has negative feelings towards the authorities
People often judge or misperceive others appearances in a less than equal manner before they even know the true nature of the person. Every day we make assumptions by what we can see physically. Even in the supermarkets, we distinguish good products from bad products based on how they look. We are apt to choose good-looking products because they don’t have flaws, cracks, and bruises. Moreover, we assume them to have good qualities and good tastes. Actually, taste doesn’t deal with its looking. However, we bias in favor of assuming human nature. Since people judge human beings based on how they look, it is called prejudice. In fact, prejudice just disadvantage
The media can influence our perception. If we saw skinny models wearing make up on television and the internet, the social norm for women would be to wear make up and be skinny. Therefore, people would judge themselves and others if they did not fit this criteria because that's how women are perceived in that society. Culture can also influence our perception. Some people grew up in a home where they would come home from school and dinner would be cooked. Say a child who grew up like this went over to a friends house afterschool and the friends mom didn't get home until the evening, thus dinner wasn't cooked. The friend would think that family is odd because they eat later in the day. Our perception changes based on how we are raised, where we grew up, and what society portrays.
There are many different versions of Beauty and the Beast; It is a magical story of unconditional love. It teaches children that beauty is much more then skin deep. In this assignment I am to compare two, Beauty and the Beast stories; one by the renowned, famous Grimm Brothers as presented by Disney. The other called Beastly by the modern author Alex Flinn. The two versions have many similarities but still quite a few differences.
People in society are judging people for their looks. If someone judge them for their looks the
The version of Beauty and the Beast by Jeanne- Marie LePrince De Beaumont tells a compelling story of a young women making sacrifices for her family, and finding love through these sacrifices. Beauty and the Beast is a fairytale meant to educate young children on the importance of family, and that life is full of making sacrifices; while also teaching children to appreciate what is on the inside, and not just on the outside. The protagonist of the tale is Beauty. Beauty is a caring, family- oriented, strong, loyal girl whom everyone in the town adores. She kept to herself, but would do anything for anyone, especially her father. With many opportunities to get married, Beauty stayed loyal to her father, until she realized she was in love with Beast. When the family lot their fortune men still proposed to Beauty, even though she did not have money. Beauty politely turned them down; “She told them that she could not bring herself to abandon her poor father in his distress and that she would go with him to the country in order to comfort him and help him with his work.” (32)
