After seeing young kids spray tanned, in revealing attire and a full face of makeup, beauty pageants are nothing less than blatant objectifications of these young girls. As entertaining and hysterical beauty pageants can be, pageants have raised immense controversy throughout the world.

What is a beauty pageant? A beauty pageant is a competition that focuses on the physical appearance of its contestants, and also incorporates personality, intelligence, talent, and the answers they give the judges. The phrase almost refers only to contests for women and young girls. Beauty pageants started in the late 1920’s, but became more popular in the 1960’s. They were first entertained in the city of Troy. Now beauty pageants are one of the fastest growing industries in the United States.Beauty pageants only prohibited adults 18 and older to compete. They never thought about letting young children entering pageants until the mid 1960’s.
