How Do You Become a Dietician?
Anyone who wants to become a dietician will need to take the specific courses outlined by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) at either the undergraduate or graduate level. Next, they must complete the required internship and pass the registered dietician exam. There are actually many different career paths for dieticians.
Finish School and Pass the Exam
The easiest way is to complete a comprehensive dietician degree at the undergraduate level. Classes in nutrition will explore metabolism, digestion, diseases and personal food choices. Learning about life span nutrition will study the physiological and environmental influences on nutritional patterns, problems and age groups. Students may take electives in topics like financial management, which will teach them about the principles used to control food costs and revenues in dietetics practices. After graduating, students must pass the Registered Dietician exam through the American Dietetic Association.
Choose a Regular Career
A regular dietician will assess the nutritional status and condition of incoming patients. They usually screen clients for potential risks, perform nutritional diagnoses and clarify the root causes of problem. Dieticians will create and implement individualized nutrition intervention plans in accordance with the person’s medical condition and prescriptions. They may create therapeutic plans for specialized needs and situations.
Dieticians must continually evaluate the plans progress and effectiveness towards medical nutrition therapy goals. They may execute interventions and implements changes as needed. Dieticians may work cooperatively with food service staff in their health care facility to assure adherence to diet prescriptions and recommendations. They may even assist in the planning of menus and modifications based on approved diet

My work helped students with food allergies avoid consuming allergy-containing foods and enabled more students to make healthier choices at the campus eateries. A Certified Clinical Nutritionist is someone who counsels clients on how to either maintain or create healthy diets and ultimately a healthy lifestyle. A bachelor degree, certifications and many hours of internship are required to become a Certified Clinical Nutritionist. Becoming a CCN does not only require an interest and a degree in Nutrition Science. To be a successful professional entails much more. This research will determine the specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, personality, and technology competency that will be attributed to the overall success and achievement in the future of a Certified Clinical Nutrition. An outline and overview of the educational requirements as well as, some career goals will be presented. This study will also take a detailed look at how some current issues in the health sciences relate to the nutrition science profession.
To become an accredited nutritionist you need to have excelled in a given academic program in nutrition. Different programs differ in a number of things and so do the requirements for accreditation by states or countries. In America about 46 states require that you must have finished a two year or a four year academic program for you to be accredited. Thus you have the task of finding the perfect program depending on your states requirements.

The TLC diet is low in saturated fat and high in soluble fiber, while the Mediterranean diet promotes vegetables and fish but restricts red meat (Hinkle & Cheever, 2014). The menu may need to be adjusted for the individual patient, and a referral to a dietician may be required (Hinkle & Cheever, 2014). The dietician could help determine which diet would be more appropriate for the patient and could educate on how to incorporate her culture into the meals in a healthier fashion. The nurse should inform the patient about increasing her physical activity because regular moderate exercise raises HDL levels and lowers triglyceride levels (Hinkle & Cheever, 2014).
Additionally, a masters or doctorate degree is optional for a Nutritionist depending on whether or not he or she plans to teach at an institution or practice research. (Jones & Ricketts, 2016). The credentials and licensing for an RD differs depending on which state one chooses to practice in. After one completes a minimum of a bachelor’s degree he or she must complete an ACEND accredited program which can last six to twelve months, following that he or she must take and pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) exam, and lastly once a person becomes licensed he or she must maintain that status by continuing professional education during a specific licensing period that can vary by state, as reported by EatRightPro.org. Then they will be able to develop a plan, keeping in mind that it must be practical for the client to commit to. Nutritionists will typically follow up with clients as a way to support them through what may be a major change in their lifestyle. This also gives them the ability to track the progress of their clients and possibly make changes to their plan for greater results.
