August 4th, 2015 I decided I had enough of the fast food industry, and steered my focus to step into my career path; the field of superheroes and sidekicks, the medical field. My interest in working as a medical assistant did not solely come from my disinterest in working in the fast food industry. I have always had an interest in the medical field; perhaps being raised by medical professionals constructed my interest. Feed by my interest I researched positions to become a medical assistant, and the requirements in working as one. Exploring the local hospital, and outpatient clinics, such as Asante Rogue Regional and Providence. Searching for openings and requirements, I found that to be an MA, certification is required. Due able but pressured by time restriction; I could have applied with no experience or knowledge and possibly have been granted a position, with the requirement that I would enroll in an MA certification program, to complete within an allotted time. This led me to explore how to enter the MA program at RCC, to my conclusion that securing my certification prior to applying for a position would better my chances. Fortunately, my parents had just decided to expand their private practice; knowing this and that they did not yet have an office assistant or an MA, I decided to take a shot. Together we discussed it, and what it would look like for both my parents and myself; we compared the pros and cons. Having the advantage of being raised by them I’ve watched
Pebbles Lafleur05/15/2018HS115My Scope of PracticeAs many people know, there are steps into making into the medical field world. There are still certifications and levels to have under your belt to move up. Many people start as a CNA, then LPN, RN and so on and so forth. However, currently, I am enrolled in school to become a CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) and hopefully adding phlebotomy under my belt as well. Nevertheless, before all this to happen, there is a process to go by and complete it accordingly. To be competitive in the medical field marketplace, all medical assistants have to be certified through the AMA. The AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) is the association that is responsible for producing the
The Physician Assistant (PA) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) career fields were the medical fields’ response to the physician shortage that began in the 1960s, but the shortage still exists today. As the population continues to grow, the gap continues to grow as well. Medical schools were having a hard time producing as many doctors that were needed to fill in the gaps in a timely manner, leaving the medical field looking for ways they could have health care providers diagnose and treat patients, but educated in half the time of a doctor. The PA program was then born out of the military. Medical doctors watched as military doctors and medics came back, but they had no formal training except for on-the-job training. The NP program was derived from previous midwifery program. Currently, as the physician shortage is still impending more and more PAs and NPs are being hired to fill in the gaps. This is causing many questions to arise: Are they qualified?, What kind of education do they have?, and Should I feel safe?. Patients want to know that they are getting excellent care, and that their medical providers are qualified to diagnose and treat patients accurately.
From a personal standpoint, the history of the physician assistant profession is remarkable, especially in regard to how established the profession became in such a rapid time. Ultimately, the profession was designed with the goal to benefit patients, and as a physician assistant, the approaches to accomplish this goal are infinite. Anyone would be honored to be a part of such an established profession and contribute to such a noble
* (NHA) National Health Career Association offers two medical assistant certification tests for clerical and administrative work.
I want to be an Advanced Practice Nurse. I complete similar work every day so I thought to myself, why not get the certification for it? As I called medical doctors and physicians assistants about sick patients, I found myself suggesting and telling them what orders the patient needs. I was struck with a sudden realization; I needed to go back to school.
Active membership was opened to any practicing medical assistant who achieved AAMA certification. The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) was engaged as the test consultant for the AAMA certification examinations. Responsibility for the accreditation of one- and two-year medical assisting programs was transferred from the AMA’s Council on Medical Education to the AMA-sponsored but independently operated Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA). The AAMA Endowment’s Curriculum Review Board remained the recommending body. Revised Essentials of an Accredited Educational Program for the Medical Assistant were accepted by the AMA Council on Medical Education.
According to the Colorado Bar Association, MAs are considered unlicensed “delegates” under Colorado’s Medical Practice Act. This means it is the responsibility of a physician present to determine whether an MA has received the training necessary to perform certain supervised tasks. (Medical Assistant Certification in Colorado, 2017). Medical assistants can perform clinical and administrative skills that they are adequately trained to perform under the direct supervision of a licensed provider and the provider assumes the responsibility for his or her MA’s duties performed. As most kids grow up, their dream job changes all the time. One week they want to fly to the moon as an astronaut while the next week they want to rule the world as president. However, I’ve always wanted to help people by being a doctor. I would sit in front of the television mesmerized for hours by various trauma shows. I preformed surgery on my stuffed animals and diagnosed my friends and family with different fake illnesses. As I continued to grow up, I realized there is many types of jobs in the medical field that preform a variety of different services. After researching the different options, I fell in love with the idea of being a physician assistant (PA). A PA, supervised by a doctor, has the freedom to interpret tests, record progress, and diagnose patients. In order to become a PA, it takes a lot of schooling, but it is a rewarding job that I would be very good at. Ten years from now, I will be a great physician assistant due to the characteristics I already posses and the education that I will be receiving in the future.

Physician Assistants (PAs) are equipped with a generalist medical skill set, which gives PAs career flexibility when compared to other medical providers. For example, PAs are able to change specialties in response to changes in society’s medical demands. However, the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) has raised a controversy for the PA profession by implementing specialty certification. This would restrict flexibility and deviate away from the purpose of the profession. The two main opinions regarding specialty certification will be
Fast Food Nation: The Darker Side of the All-American Meal is very interesting and stimulating. The author, Eric Schlosser, makes excellent points in all his chapters, for example in the epilogue he describes how we can make a difference and that is by not buying fast food and by going somewhere else to eat. Also is chapter ten, he explains how the fast food industry is like a circus. However, not every chapter is as critical for people to read as chapter one. Chapter one is the most important chapter because it describes how fast food originated (the founding fathers), the chapter shows how corrupt and back-stabbing the fast food industry has become, and how gullible Americans can be.
Per the CDC, from 1998 to 2003 the prevalence of obesity increased from 13.05% to 15.21%, and the prevalence of extreme obesity increased from 1.75% to 2.22%. It was in 2003 that Morgan Spurlock first took note of the ever-growing epidemic in America and set out to prove that the root because of it was the fast food industry. After the film’s release on January 17th, 2004 (imdb.com), a new trend began. The CDC states that from 2003 through 2010 the prevalence of obesity decreased slightly from 15.21% to 14.94%. Similarly, the prevalence of extreme obesity decreased from 2.22% to 2.07%. It was following the aftermath of the release of Super-Size Me that fast food corporations such as McDonald’s started adding healthier menu items, an interesting
Over the past 50 years, the way we eat has changed more than it had in the previous 10,000. Now, 60% of Americans over the age of 20 are overweight. The fast-food industry is highly responsible for today’s health epidemic. Some people choose to blame the government for not balancing individual rights, and the common good. However, the government is not forcing you to eat. You put yourself at risk of diet related health problems.
As my career advances I want to use my Master’s degree to help me propel myself above other. Furthermore, I am looking for the next step to improve my resume when promotions come around for the Dearborn Heights Fire Department. I believe this degree will help me stand out when I interview and show the necessary skills of motivation, desire, leadership and loyalty when entering a leadership role within the department. Secondly, we are looking to pilot a community paramedic program which I am very interested in leading and helping organize within our community. Furthermore, I am looking to expand my skills and knowledge as a skilled professional. This degree will allow me to grow as a nurse and apply the knowledge learned within this program in a real life scenario. I would like to work as an advanced practice nurse in an acute care setting where I can help the most amounts of people possible. I also want to give back as well and teach others as much as possible. In our department we have hired many new registered nurses who I have been trusted to orient. This has given me the knowledge and confidence needed to prepare myself for a leadership role within the department and provide the necessary feedback to others to allow them to continue to grow as
