There are a few events in my life that have influenced me to become a nurse, but just one that has given me the calling to further my degree. As first an LPN or Licensed Practical Nurse then as an RN or Registered Nurse, I have overcome a seemingly insurmountable obstacle in the path of obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Nursing. Less than six weeks after taking the State Board Exam to complete my LPN Certificate, I gave birth to my second daughter Layla. She and I both developed infections as a result of an extended labor process. I went home after three days in the hospital; Layla spent a week in the NICU. During that time my husband and I took turns staying with our baby girl from very early in the morning to very late at night. …show more content…
We had a three-year-old daughter, Sophia, at home to care for as well. Three days into Layla’s stay in the NICU, I developed what the nurses thought was mastitis, which results from an engorgement in the breast tissue that produces milk. The nurse sent me directly to see my doctor for treatment. After a few more days, Layla came home healthy and happy, but bottle-fed, as I was unable to continue to produce milk while being treated for mastitis with antibiotics. After the ten-day course of antibiotics was completed and the mastitis remained unresolved, the OBGYN referred me back to my primary care doctor. Dr. Jacobi was immediately concerned, and started a fourteen-day course of antibiotics, which did not work either. By this time, it is mid-October and Dr. Jacobi admitted to being dumbfounded by my symptoms. He referred me to a breast specialist, Dr. Smith. My visit with Dr. Smith leads to an eventual diagnosis of highly aggressive breast cancer. Since I had passed my LPN boards, I was working as a graveyard shift charge nurse in a nursing home. That grueling schedule allowed me to be with my three month old and my three year old during the day while my husband
I became a mother at a very young age, seventeen years old. When I was in labor at the hospital, I experienced the nursing care of two very distinct nurses. I quickly became aware of the demeanor of the night nurse. She was unkind, pushy, and insensitive. She also did not explain things and did not smile much. On the other hand, the day nurse was merrier, compassionate, caring, informative, and reassuring. Despite my juvenile state, my comprehension was very astute. I comprehended that there are two types of nurses. One who solely works to attain a paycheck and the nurse who chose the nursing profession because they value humanity. Simultaneously, I was becoming a mother and discovering what my profession would be thanks to the caring day nurse who was a role model.

A Registered Nurse is a person who enjoys helping other people. They practically have the responsibility for many peoples lives. What’s interesting about a Registered Nurse is that they get to learn about all the parts of the human body. A Registered Nurse works in the medical field and needs to be ready with anything that comes their way. There could be a sudden death, some kind of medical issue that pops up, and even a patient just falls over and hurt themselves. As a Registered Nurse they need to be able to deal with blood, snot, vomit etc. The main thing a Registered Nurse has to be good at is being able, and wanting to help people in need.
In some point in time, during a person’s life they run into the question what do I want to be? They must find a career that they will enjoy or the time that they have spent in class and studying will be in vain. While doing research on the Georgia Career Information Center and from the constant idea throughout my life I have decided that I want to become a registered nurse. The type of work environment, the salary that the job provides and flexibility with work hours are all things that have drawn me to this occupation. I want to specialize in Neonatal. I have always enjoyed caring for people and making a difference to someone. When you become a nurse these are just some of the things that you are able to accomplish. Becoming a registered
Transitioning from nursing school to working in a hospital setting can be a challenging time for a new graduate. Due to the nursing shortage, new graduate nurses are being hired with little to no experience. This is overwhelming for new nurses, especially when they are not getting adequate support or training from the hospital. The amount of stress, pressure, and lack of training is leading to a high turnover rate for new graduate nurses. With patient acuity on the rise, new graduate nurses that are filling these vacancies in the hospitals, need to be competent nurses to provide proper and safe care to the patients.
A day in the life as a CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) can have its ups and its downs. As a CNA you can work in a couple different areas of the nursing field, you have options of where you want to be and you are not finite to any certain place. Most CNA’s start out working in a nursing home then exude to other places such as hospitals. As a nurse aide you have many options of being in a certain field of nursing. That is what I love about nursing; it is versatile and you can work wherever you want in the country. You can travel and see places you haven’t seen while doing what you love to do as a career.

There exist a concept in which despite where a person came from, that person can aspire to be whatever he/she wanted, as long as hard work is completed. This concept, that anyone can grasp is known to be called the "American Dream". I would argue that this is one of the best parts about living in America, considering that I am first-generation Vietnamese-American, coming from Vietnamese parents who migrated to the United States. Living here has taught me that I have so much potential and opportunities, compared to the stories my mother use to share when she was in Vietnam. I may not have had the sunshine of beginnings due to the fact that I had a rough transition with adjusting to America, however, I have managed to be ranked top 10 in the entire senior class, which was achievable because I've put enough heart in to school.
As of 2008, there were about 753,600 Licensed Practical Nurses and 2,618,700 Registered Nurses in the United States (U.S. Department of Labor, 2010-11). In the year 2018, the LPN employment percentage is expected to rise 21% while the RN rate should be approximately 22% (U.S. Department of Labor, 2010-11). This may not seem that high, but it is, when one considers that the expected employment rate for a Dentist is only expected to be 16% (U.S Department of Labor, 2010-11). Nursing is a highly respected and sought after career because every person that enters this profession is able to make a difference and is needed by the general population for his/her skills and contributions to the medical field. When a person is contemplating entering
they also receive on the job training as education through trial and error while working
We live in a world where the human race seems to be disconnected. Nowadays it feels that there are not enough people helping each other. I don’t treat life like a competition I look at it and I ask myself how may I help? What may I do to make this world a more suitable place for all to live a comfortable and peaceful life? I yearn to come forward and fulfill my role and contribute to our society in any way possible. Nursing is my calling for helping others. It sounds cliché, this I know, but it’s what I desire and what I decided to do with my body, mind, and soul.
Nursing is a practice in which nurses promote health and the well-being of patients. I believe that nursing is not only a job that prevents and cures illness, but has a deeper meaning and understanding. Becoming a nurse gives the opportunity to maximize and promote patients’ well-being. It is a way to learn and understand new perspectives and expand prior knowledge, to build relationships with patients, community, and other nurses, in addition to learning how to empathize and realize the patient’s needs, and to value and see people as human beings. I think even with the list given is not enough to define or explain a nurse. I believe being a nurse is a diverse and immeasurable experience, and what happens in this field is unknowing and uncertain. My goal in nursing practices is to take in life experiences and use the skills and ideas learned to shape me to become a better nurse and a better person.
In February 24th I had to travel to Mexico for an immigration mandatory appointment, to find out if my husband was accepted as a United States Resident. This mandatory immigration appointment led me to loose class time. In addition to the time out of school due to the 1 week travel another unfortunate event was to happen in my life. A pap smear demonstrated that I had abnormal cells. A biopsy on February 26, 2016 later indicated that the cells could be cancerogenous, in stage one. This was realy hard time for me because I had
The dream of being a nurse is not an easy path to take and requires dedication and sacrifice. In fact, leaving the children with their babysitter and having less time to spend with them is amongst of the greatest challenges for a parent. First, the dedication of continuing the dream of being a nurse will too require giving up a lot of time that will affect everyone in my life and especially my son. Like for instance, with the amount of assignments and self study online can take up a lot of time that somehow occupied most of my time. Then, I have realized that it is almost bedtime and must leave early the next morning to prevent getting stuck in a traffic and make sure that I would not be late on my class. With that, trying to make up with the time missed to spend with my son the moment I get home and failing to accommodate him because of new assignment is another stress to deal with. Secondly, the need to sacrifice my personal leisure and the time with my son that I must set aside to be successful with my career. It is in fact not an easy journey since it demands most of my time. Additionally, the feelings of guilt can too affect my concentration while studying. In fact, there are times that I must rush my paperwork and get my tests online done faster so that I could have additional spare time to do activities with him. It is surely not an easy path to take, hence having strategies will make things easier and will also prevent academic failure.
Nursing care is doing something to or for the person or providing information to the person with the goals of meeting needs, increasing or restoring self-help ability, or alleviating impairment.
