Now and then walking through the store I have seen a parent do something and suddenly I think how dangerous, annoying, or abusive. I would think they should not be a parent and I would have never done something like that and there should be a law against what they are doing. Licenses are used in our everyday lives, we need a license to drive, hunt, and serve liquor. Having children is not always a well thought out decision. Parenting might as well be considered one of today's most challenging and demanding jobs. Considering how important the job of being a parent is, you should be required to obtain a license to become a parent.

At one point in the book we see the mother Rosemary neglect the children and show selfishness. Rosemary hides inside the bathroom and eats food she had hidden from her family. The children were starving at this time. “Mom started crying. “I can’t help it,” she sobbed. “I’m a sugar addict just like your father is an alcoholic.” “She told us we should forgive her the same way we forgave father for his drinking”(Walls 174). While all the kids in the Walls family are literally starving picking food out of the trash cans to fulfill their starvation, the mom has been indulging on chocolate and other she has been hiding from her children. This is heart breaking for the kids to have to go through because it shows the reality of how they really do have to take care of themselves most of the time. It should matter if you are emotionally and financially ready to become a parent. The inability to parent results from the parents own addictions, personalities, and life events. “When Dad went crazy, we all had our own way of shutting down and closing off, and that is what we all did that night” (Walls 115). In this part of the story it is around Christmas time. You can tell Jeanette is really excited that it is Christmas time. Her mother wanted to make it seem as traditional as possible so the family went to Christmas mass at church. That day Jeanette’s father starts to drink early on in the day and got drunk. During mass he end up shouting vulgar things and gets the family kicked out of church. Alcoholics like Rex may not realize that they are treating their family in an unfair manner. Due to the way a parent choose to live their life. Children may develop low self-esteem, loneliness, and fear of abandonment just like Jeanette
