What Are the Reasons You Have Chosen to Pursue Education to Become a SSW?
Choosing to pursue this education to become a Social Service Worker has been a life long passion; living a so called “roller coaster” of a life and being subjected to many things, enjoyable and regretful has helped me in many ways to comprehend what it is to truly have human empathy and compassion for others. A veteran at life in its lowest and highest forms, and feeling completely alone and hopeless at times; being subjected to sexual and physical abuse, seeing what alcohol and drugs do to families, how poverty effects children and loved ones. Fortunately there were a few individuals that reached out, bring me up out of the darkness. This is something that I feel in my heart that needs to be given back, for me to provide someone the empowerment that others have given me, to show that there is hope and give reason to keep going, individuals who feel desperate, help to raise their chances, dreams and the basic needs of life. Having the knowledge of education to give these resources for expert referrals to assist people in desperate times, so they can live the life that is deserving and fulfilling to them, therefore this is my ultimate goal!
What Population Do You Want Work With?
The populations that I wish to work with would be the homeless and poverty stricken; there are more issues with this population, for instance mental illness and addiction is a major concern also for this group; realizing this
Working in the social services field was always my dream. Whether working with children, family, adults, elderly etc. this career path is so broad it instills the hope of a career opportunity. My first year working in this field was in 2010 when I interned as an intake specialist in an outpatient drug treatment facility, while completing my bachelor’s degree in human services. Thereafter, I was able to branch off in various areas such as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter, housing specialist, substance abuse counselor and now a family services specialist.
I believe there is a specific personal example that demonstrates how my social work career has progressed over the last two years. For example, I had the opportunity to go Kennedy Middle school where I mentored fifth grade students, it was such a great experience working with children and establishing friendships with them. It was very full filling for me because I had the opportunity to help children and give them encouragement, and it was such joy seeing them smile when they accomplished something. Throughout the semester, I worked with one particular fifth grader boy who has bipolar. I discussed with him ways to control his anger. Many times when he was doing his homework, he would become frustrated and get mad. Before starting math, I gave
There are several goals that I hope to achieve by pursuing a graduate degree in Social Work. Pursuing a MSW will provide me with the knowledge, tools, and skills-set that will be fundamental to the achievement my career goals outlined below.
For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to pursue a career in social work. Helping others is something I have always been passionate about and I hope to be able to make a difference in the lives of those around me. Throughout my life, I have always been the person my friends would go to when something was wrong and they needed to talk. Growing up, I also experienced close family members struggle with addiction and mental health problems. I have seen how damaging these experiences can be on an individual. I have also witnessed the effects these experiences can have on family relationships. My personal occurrences have instilled in me a further desire to become a social worker.
It’s so important to know how to develop a career and plan a career for yourself. When it comes to the human service world, it is very important in Human Services that you stay informed of current changes in the profession (Kinsella, 2015). To become a human service worker, it’s important to understand the skills that you will need. The skills that I will developing will be case management, assessment, treatment planning, administration, community organizing, group facilitation, and cultural diversity. When it comes to school, my plan does include graduate school. Once I graduate and take the exam, I will decide whether I want a job or continue getting my education. When it comes to career planning, I will have to prepare a resume and be ready

Hello Wendy, in response to your question, the area of social work I can envision myself pursing will be in area of child welfare. This is because of my love for children and I believe that all children have the right to stable homes where they can be well care for and their safety from abuse and neglect is guarantee. I believe children’s welfare should be a priority for both governments and communities in which they live.
Clinical social work is not something that you just “get into” you have to think about this type of career. This profession can take quite a toll on your mental health because you’re not allowed to speak about your clients. Except with another therapist that works with the client. It can be hard to get advice or just talk about anything without breaking certain rules. Because of that clinical social workers end up going to therapy themselves to be able to talk and get advice. There are very few people who become clinical social workers (CSW’s). The people that consider becoming a Clinical Social Worker will be need to go through a lot of work to become one.
After I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara I was unsure what my next step would be. Of course I was anxious since I did not have experience working nor did I excel in my undergrad studies however, I knew I needed to use my newly earned degree in a positive way. Fast forward, after working for two years, I have gained the skills, knowledge and values from my work experiences that have confirmed my desire to advance my education in the social work field. I currently have my own case load of clients as a case manager at a level 12 group home but it’s time to take the next step forward. I want to ultimately advance social justice and provide services to assist individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.
Growing up, I didn’t really grow up with much. My family and I were always moving from house to house, we never really had a stable home. I was a family of eight and we didn’t have money. It was just my four sisters, three brothers and I. I never knew why we always had “nice people” always coming through our house talking to my sisters and me. My oldest sister moved in with her grandparents. I was allowed seeing her if I went to her house. Not too long after I was placed with my dad. I later understood what happened and that my mom wasn’t fit to be a mother. When I think about my future I think about helping others in need. I want to help children. I began to learn about social work and how it is a great need in our society.
A degree in Early Childhood Development can create a gateway for many career opportunities. These opportunities include things like, but are not limited to: preschool teacher, elementary school teacher, childcare center director/general employee, mental health consultants, and things alike. But the career path that interests me the most and happens to include various elements of my favorite subjects is the path of social work. Specifically case management.
A social worker has a very important job. Social workers help children and families in need of food, homes, and health care. They help children have a brighter future. There are many different types of social work. There are mental health, child and family, elementary, and high school social workers.
This learning experience is mainly going to help me grow as a person. I’m not always confident in some areas, and developing a plan of how I can plan to become a social worker will show me how I can strengthen some ideas to become better at it. Recently from my internship this past week, I had learned that if you work in the town where you’re from, there's going to be people in the community that know you. It’s best that you remember you still have to stick to the HIPAA laws. Because you don’t get into trouble by the state and lose your licensure. Confidentiality is always important because the client deserves to have why they're getting services between them and the worker. In my values, I displayed them as I normally would, I responded in
I was in grade 10 when I thought of becoming a social worker. As social worker practitioner the fields that interest me to work in is domestic violence and child abuse because I want to make change to the society. Also Mahatma Gandhi was my major inspiration through this quote “Be the change that you wish to see in the world”. Than an idea came to me, why not involve my contribution to the wide variety of communities. My communication with school counsellors and social workers has impacted my choice of desiring to study social work. I realised that if I have had a chance of seeing a social worker when I was young, things would have been much easier and less stressful. I want to provide opportunities that I did not encounter to other people. This essay will reflect my past experience, motivation and why I want to be a social worker, values, beliefs and theory of practice.
Every worthwhile journey begins with one step. My social work journey began when I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Utah in 2003. I thought my next step would be to immediately pursue a graduate degree. In my undergraduate career I had taken numerous classes from the College of Social and Behavioral Science and had done well in those classes. In my Social Work as a Profession course I had an assignment to shadow a social worker and write a paper about my experience. I chose to shadow my father-in-law, a social worker with over 30 years of experience, and in my paper I expressed my desire to go into the social work field. I knew I liked helping people. I knew I liked problem solving and critical thinking. I thought my 22 year-old self was ready to embark on that journey, but I wasn’t. I realize now that what I lacked at graduation was one crucial step… perspective. Over the past twelve years I have gained that much needed perspective and have taken many steps forward in my journey, and with those steps and that increased perspective, I now feel more fully prepared to begin my social work career.
