28 August 2015 Why welding? Why not an engineer? What is the significance of becoming a welder? Welding is one of the most demanding industries to this day, from 2012 hiring rates for welders has dropped 10% and are estimated to go up to 16% by 2022. The key things asked about being a welder include: education, salary, benefits and hazards, and also the different types of welding you can learn along with the way it impacts the world. Welding provides a lot of opportunities for people who are creative and like to work with their hands. When beginning your journey to become a welder you will need specific information to help you start and progress. One of the best ways to start to learn welding

Benefits of a welder could include opportunity for advancements, Job variety, and decent wages. Decent Wages—A career in welding can bring you a sizable paycheck. Though the hourly wage for welders varies by industry, the average hourly wage for a professional welder is $19.04. Which isn’t bad starting out if you’re just graduating from high school. Job Variety—welding is highly transferrable skill, welders are needed on a number of different projects in different industries such as ship building, pipeline, scaffolds, construction, autobody repair, and more common things. Each project may be completely different, which will help shake up your routine from time to time. Finally being able to start out in a shop grinding your heart away, but you don’t have to stop there. There is plenty of room for young people to advance. Opportunity for Advancement— as welders hone their skill set and learn the industry they are working in, they are opening doors for themselves. If you work hard and perform on the job, you may have the opportunity to advance to become a supervisor, instructor, or inspector. You may also have the opportunity to open your own business in the field. Starting your own business as a repair shop, or buying your own rig, theres a demand for welders, and you don’t just learn one skill of welding. You can learn how to use different equipment for different, and starting out a grinder will become your best friend. College, pay rate, and the long topics of availability. These are things common people know you will need, so why not actually learn about welding. Here are some basics and simple elements used in welding. “Shielded Metal Arc Welding”– Shielded Metal Arc Welding is also known as “SMAW” or as “stick welding.” The stick is an electrode, which is coated in a flux protecting the weld. An electrode holder holds the “stick” in place and an electric arc is
Welding is a process used to join metal parts by producing a coalescence, called a weld, at a joint. Advances in welding technology have opened the way for innovative designs in structures and machinery. Of modern welding processes, the greatest number fall under the general classifications of arc welding, gas welding and cutting, resistance welding, and brazing.
Since its development in the middle of the 20th century, MIG welding has become commonplace in many manufacturing operations. For example, it is commonly used in the automobile industry because of its ability to produce clean welds, and the fact that it welds metals quickly.
Some advantages to being a pipeline welder is you make fat stacks of cash, learning a good trade to know, get to see new places and travel, and meet new people. Some disadvantages are long hours away from home, long periods of time away from family, and you also can get injured.
Although there are many career choices out there in the world I would love to be in the career in welding for multiple reasons. I chose this career because i love the fact that there's multiple different types of welding positions, and it's a great trade to meet new people and work hard in.i decided on this career because i have had experienced with some welding and i enjoyed it. i even researched some different techniques you can use to weld different types of metal. There are specific personality types or skills required for this career. some are interpersonal skills such as being self motivated. Also having a skill of problem solving will help to. “Math and science skills are used daily for welders because they have
Welding is the process of joining pieces of metal or other parts by heating the surfaces to the point of melting using a blow torch, electric arc, or other means. This careers demand has skyrocketed in recent years. According to Tri-County Technical College, welding is ranked as one of the top ten fastest growing career fields in South Carolina by the US Department of Labor (“Welding Associate's Degree”). Welding is a very meticulous career, to be a welder you have to be focused, careful and you have to have an extensive knowledge of the field to be successful. Welding requires a variety of skill sets. If a person has a variety of skills and experience doors will open up for positions such as: shipbuilding, automotive repair, and construction.
Safety when welding is very important and should be considered the most important thing to take in consideration. You should always wear a very burn resistant glove; leather is commonly used by most. Next is a wear non-tattered or protective clothing just in case some
This demands that post high school education be acquired before entering the field. The AWS (American Welding Society) offers the CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) Certification which brings with it a reputation of being a well experienced veteran of the field, and will likely catch the eye of employers. The AWS has certified over 85,000 welding inspectors since the introduction of the CWI certification in 1976("About AWS."). This is focuses on the fine details of inspection of welds not only on pipelines but in any scenario. Before taking the course you must have certain qualifications, which depend on factors like having a GED and if you have an associate degree or higher in engineering technology, engineering, or physical science(. If I only had my GED I will need an additional 5 years of experience in the field, before I would be qualified to take the exam("Do You Qualify?"). The cost is relatively friendly when compared to getting an education via colleges. In total it would cost me around $2,840 to get my CWI certification. Costs considered are the $2,223, one time fee for the 4 day course, and hotel reservations which would cost about $620 total("Seminar/Exam Registration."). On the job training is not an option, however hands-on education is used for some of the course. The AWS is convenient for me because they have seminars all over the United States, and I would be able to attend the CWI course in Pittsburgh, Pa, saving me time and money on travel expenses("Seminar/Exam Registration."). After getting a CWI certification they offer the SCWI certification which is a tier above the CWI but requires an additional six years of experience("Senior Certified Welding Inspector
The thing that I like best about the job is that the pay seems to be good and welder get paid above minimum wages.
First, I will cover how to become a pipeline welder. Pipeline welders usually start work by earning a welding certificate. Next, they will generally take up an apprenticeship that lasts three to four years. During this apprenticeship, they will shadow current welders and learn how to perform well under the conditions they are forced to face. After the apprenticeship
Welding is a great career choice for a person not wanting to go to college. There are all different types of welding careers to explore, and a person can choose the one he would most enjoy. The wages of a welder are better than most technical jobs. When you go to welding school you can start working a lot faster than any other career. Trained welders seldom have trouble finding gainful employment.
To become a welder you need to know a lot , different rods, different types of welding to learn all this you need the right training , there are many technical schools and colleges where you can go to find out the basics of welding. there are many types of welding one of the biggest is stick welding there is also flux core, tig, mig. on the pipeline there is a lot of
The skills needed for welding are a steady hand for clean weldings, a stable head for welding in difficult or stressful positions, you need to be able to do at least basic math, also endurance, and problem solving.
If you want to be a welder, and actually have a career, you can go to a welding school and learn how to weld, or you can try to be a welders helper and just learn the trade. Welding can be a tough job if you don’t know what you are doing or you do not enjoy doing it. Welding is a fabrication or sculptural process that joins materials together (Modern Welding). This is the process that uses fuel gases and oxygen to make a molten pool of metal to fuse together two pieces of metal, called puddeling (oxy-fuel welding and cutting. Wikipedia). If you decide to weld as your profession, most welding school students have little trouble finding jobs and finding people certified to weld correctly (Welding.Wikipedia).
People don't think that a career in welding is an ideal because they don't think it a money making job and that you work all day and all week and don't get paid enough for the work that is done. In reality in welding has a starting pay of $85,000 dollars a year and work your way up the ranks to make more money. The further you get the company they will usually
GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) is more economic; Springer reports that “ GMAW is an economic process because it has higher speeds and higher deposition rates than manual arc welding. There is also no need to constantly change electrodes” ( Page 11). GMAW has a higher speed, which means that you can get the job done faster. It also has high deposition rates which makes the weld look clean and smooth.” This method can be used for a high range of work, but it is not suited for repair work because of it’s weld quality” (Page 4). This process can be used for many variations of work including root welds, joints, T’s, butts, laps, and many more applications. Even though its used for many practices, it is not recommended to use this method for
