Imagine waking up one morning and turning on the TV to your local news channel. To your surprise, there is havoc everywhere. An epidemic has taken over America and no one knows how or why or how to contain it. Everyone is in a panic. Biologists are working hard to solve it. I want to be an epidemiologist to help solve problems such as this. I want to be there first hand to discover what’s going on and how we can stop it. As a kid I always loved watching movies about epidemics and the scientists (especially female) figure out who patient zero is and how to track the disease. Even now, I love movies like this. Although I’ll be studying and in school for a while, I believe it will be worth it. What could be more rewarding than saving the lives …show more content…
An epidemiologist, like many that work in health care and science, must be very detail oriented. Luckily for me, with my current profession working in a pharmacy, I must also be extremely detail oriented. I have become used to this so it is almost a habit. Although, dealing with diseases instead of medicine will be a whole different ballpark. You also need to be investigative. In my questionnaire, my most common personality trait was investigative. I love solving problems at work that others can’t solve. It helps me become better at my job, being well rounded in problem solving. Another trait that is important to have is people skills. An epidemiologist has to be able to communicate clearly with people. Most of the time, they collect research and present that research to others. This requires a great deal of communication and people skills. I am really good with people, being as I deal with people all day long. I used to be very shy and soft spoken but as I have gotten older, I have definitely found my voice and am more confident when dealing with others. These would be my …show more content…
They can help you build your resume to show all your best achievements and qualities to future employers. They can train you on how to present yourself in an interview and even conduct mock interviews for students. This is definitely a beneficial service for students, because there are many students now a days that have never been in an interview and have no experience with building resumes. I plan on using career services when I need direction as to where I should go next in my career and education. In five years, I see myself with my bachelor degree in health science and to be working on my masters. I am getting married in October of 2018, so I see myself with a husband that supports me through all of this. I am hoping that after earning my bachelors I can either get a raise at my current job or find one doing something else until I finish my bachelors. There are many things you can do with a bachelors in health science. As much as I love my current job, it does not pay

I will most definitely be taking advantage of this awesome service that is afforded to me as a Kaplan university student (Kaplan Higher Education,
Some characteristics of this profession that I thought are imperative when becoming a health care provider is the ability to have empathy. As a healthcare professional, one must be able to understand the patients' pain and suffering because in many situations they may need a support system. Yet, we also must remain objective when treating a patient in serious conditions. Another characteristic that is valuable to have when working in the health field is organizational skills. When organized you are able to use time more efficiently, and it allows you to give patients more support. Lastly, another quality mentioned during this presentation was paying attention to detail. She demonstrated that you have to pay attention to patterns when analyzing these types of genes. By reviewing the results in detail, you can see any common problems that patient may

This career path is not predicted to grow more than is normal, at about 10% from 2012 to 2022 (“Epidemiologists” U.S. Bureau), The demand for epidemiologists is expected to remain strong in governments but jobs could be limited due to funding issues. However, the public has had an increased demand for those in this field as interest has grown in public health and epidemiology. It is a competitive job market, but at the same time, it is highly diverse, and those willing to adapt are bound to do better than those who are close-minded in this field (“Epidemiologists” U.S.
Now, I realize that choosing my profession is not about the fame. Instead, I should be considered with changing lives not just saving them. I resolve to go back to Jamaica, after finishing my education, and establishing medical clinics in the rural countryside I now call home. When ambulances rush down to the street and their flashing lights illuminate the starry night, I want to be available to change a person’s life. I would like to expand my medical training from just the AP Biology and Anatomy classes and the planned medical mission trips, to the University of
Why wouldn’t we all want to be public health leaders? It seems rather obvious to me that we should all want to make a difference; all want to lead healthier lifestyles, eradicate devastating illnesses, adopt preventative measures to protect our health, and implement impactful changes to our policies that facilitate access to proper healthcare. These are concepts that we all should all strive for, adopt, and have the right to, as citizens of the world. Therefore, the necessity to obtain my Master of Public Health (MPH) becomes almost evident and self-explanatory.
1) I would say primarily their role is fundamentally to prepare people for the marketplace, as well as to provide a foundation education to build on during the course of their careers; also to present options and insights to career choices.
To solve this mysterious epidemic, the epidemiologists had to use the scientific method. Scientific method is a way to problem solve. The epidemiologists identified the problem, and then, they researched more information to get a good understanding. They developed a hypothesis that the disease was being spread through the air. To learn more about the agent causing Legionnaires’ disease they conducted experiments and were able to identify the agent, and they also identified many of its characteristics. Over the course of doing studies and research, they modified their hypothesis, and threw away some such as the spread of the disease through food and drink. They went back and forth between research, experiment, and patterns to develop their hypothesis.
Once I receive my degree, I plan to work as a nurse at a practice in my community. Working in my community will give me the learning experience that I need to become the best nurse and physician that I possibly can. I also will have the pleasure of fulfilling my goals in my own community. I plan to start free blood drives and screenings in the community, twice a year. These blood drives and screening will give individuals important information about their health, that will be very beneficial to their everyday
My career aspirations are to be epidemiologist for local hospital and hopefully one day for Center of Disease Control and Prevention, or even Federal Emergency Management Agency. Epidemiology is a medical science discipline that arranges the structure for studying the distribution and determinants of health, communicable disease, and circumstances related to health status. The epidemiology research help to understand in what means a person catch diseases, the changes, and how the disease affect the population.
