For the purposes of this paper, 50 Holstein dairy cows were chosen for study by assigning a number to each of the farmer’s cows, randomly selecting a starting point or number on the list of cows, and then selecting every 5th number as a member of the sample population. Relying on inferential statistics, these 50 cows were then used as quantitative data, representing a sample allowing us to draw conclusions about the entire population of

To fetch that extra dollar many ranchers breed their heifers to a Charolais bull, this helps increase carcass weight and ribeye area, giving the cattlemen that extra penny when he takes them to market. Advantages also lie in the color of the animal being white, which helps them keep cooler in the hot summer temperatures. Many breeders struggle keeping their animals cool, studies have proven that a cooler, happier, animal will gain more weight over a hot, stressed out animal.
The Fritz Ranch runs an organic cow-calf operation that runs on an 800-acre of their land (Harper et al, 2). The operation produces, slaughters, packages and markets a final beef product during an 18-month cycle (Harper et al, 1). The cows are usually bred during late winter through early spring, or November
What does one think of when they see cattle at the local county fair? Do they classify them as a red cow or a black cow, or do they know that each cow is possibly a different breed? In today’s era, most individuals do not understand all the subtitles beneath the title of simply cattle. There are a variety of breeds, and each breed offers different benefits and usages. What lies beneath the title of just cattle is more diverse than black and white.
Yearling fed cattle spent 116 days on feed for both the CON and NOT groups. Cattle were weighed on day zero and on day 116 to calculate the information. In the CON group, cattle had an ADG of 3.76 lb/day. This was a higher ADG than the NOT group, who averaged a substantially lower rate of gain at 2.9 lb/day. In the end, this made a difference of 103 pounds in the finished body weight of cattle since the CON group finished at an average weight of 1260 pounds and the NOT group finished at a weight of 1157 pounds. To get the same body weight in the NOT group as the CON group, one would have to feed an extra 35.5 days.
Most health-conscious consumers are drawn to pasture-fed beef. Cattle that have a pasture diet tend to have meat with more polyunsaturated fatty acids. Polyunsaturated fatty acids have been proven to slow down development of certain human diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity (Riediger et al., 2009). To some people, this makes pasture-fed beef a healthier alternative to grain-fed beef due to the presence of increased polyunsaturated fatty acids (Gatellier et al., 2004). Cattle that are pasture-fed also have increased amounts of natural antioxidants in their meat such as vitamins A, C and E. Omega-6 fatty acid values were not different between a pasture-fed and grain-fed group tested in an experiment written about in an article by Rosarin Tansawat, Curtis A.J. Maughan, Robert E. Ward, Silvana Martini, and Daren P. Cornforth; however, omega-3 fatty acid values were significantly higher in the pasture-fed beef samples. When it comes to carcass grade factors, grain-fed animals had a carcass grade range of USDA grade low choice to prime and pasture-fed animals had a select grade. The two types of diets did not have an effect on the hanging weight, ribeye area, or back fat thickness. Some of the significant differences between the two were pH levels and fat content percent. The pasture-fed meat had a slightly higher pH level than the

These authors or professors are well-prepared to write about this topic because they talk about the whole experiment. They inform the reader about what was done in the experiment and what came out of the experiment. This article came from Revista Veterinaria. In order to show a 4-H calf you have to buy one. All you have to do is go to a local cattle operation. If you are a first year I recommend just getting a feeder calf. In order to train you have to take baby steps. Start with getting close and friendly with the calf, then go on to halter and walking. You also need to wash them and grow the hair. The better the hair the better they will do in open shows. Open shows are one day cattle shows in other cities. It takes a lot of work to get your cattle in tip-top shape for

Unfortunately he still had horns but I wanted him because of his beautiful body structure.
Cattle are the most important farm animals because they provide the most. They provide meat, dairy and their hides. Cattles’ meat is important because it gives us protein and since the cow has a lot of stomachs they provide a lot of meat. There are also different types of beef cattle. There are the Beefmaster, Angus, Belgian blue, Belted galloway, Zebu, Chianina, Charolais, and the White face. Now these are just some of them there are a lot more, but the two most common beef cattle are the Beefmaster and the White face. Dairy from a
Many people have never taken the time to consider what the life of a cow must be like. In order to produce milk year round, a cow must give birth to a calve every year. In order to increase the milking rate, and maximize profit, cows are forcefully impregnated every year by the dairy industry. Most people, again due to the commercials, believe that the cows
