Beer Brewing: Keeping With The Basics
Beer brewing has been around since ancient times and even as far back as five thousand years ago in ancient Egypt (“Researcher”). The well-known drink is created, and the processes in which it is created both for the cultural and historic value are important to know for our history as humans but also for certain health issues associated with alcohol. An average consumer does not usually know much about beer or the brewing processes the beer withstands. For instance, there are misconceptions about bottle-fermented beer and also the ability for bacteria to thrive in the drink. Many times companies like Budweiser will use rice or corn as a ‘filler’ for the yeast to metabolise instead of using nothing but higher quality ingredients. Budweiser released the ingredients in its beer ‘Budweiser, the King of Beers,’ and the ingredients are as listed: barley malt, verdant rice, hops, yeast, and water. Until Budweiser posted the ingredients to it’s highest-grossing beer, it read “brewed with the best barley malt and a blend of premium hop varieties, it is an icon of core American values like optimism and celebration” (“Budweiser”). The company never disclosed the use of rice in their brew until there was an online petition signed for the release of the ingredients.
In today’s world, there are many different kinds of beer of all kinds of qualities around the world. Though it seems that brewers can get almost anything from anywhere in the world, there are places like various areas of Africa that cannot afford decent quality beer or have anywhere to buy it and so the individuals in those areas tend to make their own alcohol by their own means. Consumers in low-income areas and countries creating their own alcohol, which tends to be highly potent and extremely toxic.
