Behavior Change Project
Selecting a Student
I selected my student from one of my students that I viewed to have some of the worst behavior in the class. I am at Bond Elementary School which is an intercity school. Most of the school’s student population comes from subsidized housing (the projects). I am in a first grade class of nineteen students. While performing my duties at in Mrs. J Williams Classroom I became very eager to observe as well as work with a student by the name of Ja’Von W. Ja’Von is a six year old, I recently found out that his mother is on drugs and is being supported by his sixteen year old brother. Many of the students that I have observed in the classroom have had behavior problems and issues with their

In the intervention after helping him with his vocabulary and introducing the interventive technique I will record how many words he gets wrong with the tally marks on the form same as I did for baseline. Ja’Von will hopefully be reading with 80% fluency after the end of the intervention.
Developing an Intervention
The intervention I selected was Chart Moves. The way that I implemented this particular intervention with the student is by writing his name on the poster in which I supplied. Every time the student performed the desired behavior, which was reading fluently within two minutes and answering post questions he would move up half a notch. With the chart, Ja’Von would have the opportunity to earn different reinforcement such as things that he was interested in or things that he liked. I became aware of the things that he was interested in during the observation phase and before I introduced him to the intervention, I asked him to make a list of the 10 things that he enjoyed doing or things that he liked in general. The list included but were not limited too cookies, candy and action figures. This gave me the opportunity to use the reinforcers as ways to increase the desired behavior and decrease the inappropriate one. After the intervention was introduced, it was explained to the student how it would work. Moreover, the way the system was designed to work in the way that the student would quickly and accurately read a passage
Explain two models of behaviour change that have been used in recent national health education campaigns.
This week of my behavior change project went more successful than the past week. I noticed that this week I worked on my time management and balanced my time between school, community service, and myself. It was much easier to be motivated and do exercise because of the time change. Before daylight savings by the time I completed my shifts it was already dark outside and windy. However now that I have more time at 7:00 pm it is still sunny and warm so the weather definitely motivated me to do at least a 30-minute exercise. A student named Jamie refuses to do her work. She is constantly talking and interrupting the other students and makes no effort to participate in class. The teacher has to constantly reprimand the student and it is causing less learning due to the interruptions within the classroom. She seems somewhat clear of the rules and procedures in the classroom, but is not motivated to follow them.
The author, a professor of special education, is an expert in the areas of behavior disorders, the assessment and treatment of behavioral disorders and interventions for behavioral disorders. This article provides an objective and useful discussion regarding the relationship between Behavior Intervention Plans and the issues that must be address by school staff when developing and monitoring them. The author also provides readers with specific areas which must be address when developing Behavior Intervention Plans. The information provided may be useful for teachers and school staff.
This behavior change project has become a huge part of my everyday life. I lost sight of how important staying in shape affects my overall mental state along with my physical well-being. Having a life that consists of so many activities such as going to school, working, and maintaining a full and happy relationship with the people I care about is hard to balance with just making time for myself. That is why keeping this three day a week workout regime over the past five weeks has been so important; it made me realize that I can make time to focus on just working on myself, and in turn, improve all other aspects of my life. Realizing of course that there are many people in this world that have real life health problems that they seek professional help for. These changes in their lives require a system or a theory that must be applied to develop a strategic an organized way to regulate or change their behavior.
The purpose of the goal staff will be to help a youngster in improving a specific behavior. This goal will be assessed by the staff and they will present their review twice a day on the basis of their observation that they noticed in an individual regarding a specific behavior.
Researchers have conducted many studies on evidence-based behavioral modification programs, with the efforts to increase their success rates within the prison system. With the rising costs of inmate care, it is imperative to create programs that will successfully lower the recidivism rate and ensure that the offender will not return to prison or a life of crime. With that being said, one must be able to identify the reasons for the continued release and return of inmates. Therefore, my research question is: Are evidence-based behavioral modification programs in Delaware’s level five institutions successful at lowering the recidivism rate?
There was a young boy in the class who has many behavioral issues, he would tend to disrupt the class, or start interfering with another student’s learning. Seeing him “as the problem child” in the class; I would assume when he was involved in confrontation with another student it was his fault right away, until I would listen to the whole story. I think this is just
I chose to do my behavior change project on improving my diet. I put my own little twist on it with the way I measured my success and I had to supplement it to reach my goals, but I feel that it was done really well. My goal was at the end of the four weeks to be able to run 3.1 miles in 18:45. I have run times close to this before, but that was a couple of years ago. At the beginning of this project my time for 3.1 miles was 20:36. I knew that if I was committed and worked really hard that I would be able to do it though. I chose to measure my behavior change this way due to the fact that I have a very busy life and I am on the high school cross country team. I figured I would already be running each week and I have a race every week that I can measure my time against my goal. So I was just trying to save some time in my schedule by partially combining two activities.
The students and staff alike work together and collaborate to make the learning and experience of school meaningful. The teachers in each grade band are close and have been working together for many years. Even though the school is only 15 years’ old many of the teachers have been here for seven or more years. The kids are all different in everything to culture to learning types. The students in the class range from kindergarten levels all the way up to about 9th grade levels, even though this is a special education class. We have seventh and eighth grade students only in this class. There is one student with Downs Syndrome, a few with a specific learning disability in reading, math or both. We also have a student in because he is the “trouble kid”. This specific individual is incredibly smart but he has behavior problems and he can be difficult to teach or otherwise have in class. The atmosphere here in the class is different than in the individual classes. There is none of the regular gatherings of students in this class. Everyone is helpful, caring, accepting, kind and joking with one another.
Positive behavioral support is a widespread research based hands on approach to behavioral support that aims to generate ample change for students with challenging behavior. “It involves identifying the purpose of the challenging behavior, teaching appropriate alternative responses that serve the same purpose as the challenging behavior, consistently rewarding positive behaviors and minimizing the rewards for challenging behavior, and minimizing the physiological, environmental, and curricular elements that trigger challenging behavior Ruef, Higgins, Glaeser, & Patnode, 2009). Proven PBS strategies include modifying the classroom environment, increasing predictability and scheduling, increasing choice making, acclimating the syllabus and acknowledgment of positive behaviors.
My overall experience with the behavior change project was positive, as I was able to successfully change my sleeping habits. Although there were times when sticking to my behavior change plan was extremely difficult, I was able to stay on track and change my sleeping habits. As a result of my behavior change, I now feel healthier and less fatigued. Because of these physical improvements, important areas of my life, such as school and sports, have improved also. My performance in the classroom and on the basketball court has noticeably become better after making this behavior change.
The strategy I have selected is Model-Lead-Test. This strategy allows students to frequently practice new skills correctly while having direct teacher supervision. The rehearsal of incorrect responses is reduced as a consequence of the continuous practice. Some strengths of the Model-Lead-Test are that it is explicit, systematic, and allows for repetition. Those strengths are great for students who are at-risk for reading difficulties. This should prove appropriate for Luke, because of his need for explicit and systematic instruction, and direct teacher supervision.

Interventions may include behavioral and cognitive strategies. “Behavioral interventions are means making certain that rewarding consequence follows desirable behavior and that either no consequence or punishing consequences follow undesirable behavior” (Kauffman 2005). Other intervention may include token reinforcement, response cost, and time out. Giving students choices in assignment can also be helpful.
