Behavior Modification Case Study
Context: The student that I have chosen for my behavior modification case study is an African American male student. He is in my homeroom class. He is in the 4th grade. In the classroom, he has various seating arrangements due to his behavior issues. At the time of the case study, he had an assigned seat that was at the front of the room and next to the teacher’s desk. He was not separated out from the rest of the students, but he only had one other student sitting beside him instead of one on each side of him. This was done mostly to keep him from being disruptive to the other classmates that surrounded him.
Targeted Behavior: The behavior that I plan to modify throughout this case study will deal with his

I will also give him a notepad with the days of the week on it. I will explain to him that each time I observe him doing his work and not bothering other students in the class, he will receive a stamp on that day. At the end of the day, he will be allowed to choose a prize from a bucket if he has at least 3 or more stamps on one day. At the end of the week if he has stamps on all 5 of his sheets for the week, he will be allowed to choose one thing such as free time, a prize, etc. to reward him for his good behavior throughout the week. If he misses a day where he gets no stamps, he cannot get the prize at the end of the week. If he breaks a rule or misbehaves during the class, he will be given a conduct mark as well as a sad face on his notepad for the day. Each day the sheet will go home to his parents for them to sign and …show more content…
I noticed almost immediately that he was putting forth an effort to complete all of his work both in class and outside of class. I also noticed that in the spot that I moved him to in the classroom, his behavior seemed to improve. I think that the reason his behavior showed improvement was because he was so close to me throughout the class time. He knew that I was watching his behavior both inside of class as well as outside of
It is very important, as teachers, that we guide, correct, and encourage our students to behave correctly in the classroom. In, The Iris Center for Faculty Enhancement, level C, case 1, there are two students, Zach and Patrick, who continue to disrupt the class because of their behavior towards each other. Zach is a relatively quiet student with a learning disability, yet he enjoys his school work. Patrick is the louder of the two students who likes to talk. He is very outgoing and likes to be the center of attention. Their teacher is starting to get frustrated with the behavior between the two boys. Patrick teases Zach regularly, along with other students; then Zack responds in an inappropriate manner. Zack gets angry and yells back; and sometimes he even breaks down to tears. Therefore, with using some of the helpful ideas from the STAR (Strategies And Resources) Sheet, the teacher will be able to encourage appropriate behavior in
Mateo gets distracted easily and its hard for him to stay focused on one task. The first 4 weeks, he was good, he work and tried his best. I used a lot of verbal encouragement and it worked. Then the next 3 weeks of school, he was like different kid, he could not stay on task, he started putting things on his mouth, pushing, grabbing other students. I seemed like he did not had control over his arms or body, he apologized to his friends. I talked to him, and he said that he did not know he was doing it until it was done. When
Mrs. Brower can really tell that all of Andrew's teachers are dedicated to his growth both socially and academically. This is so refreshing and reassuring to them. He works well with encouragement and positive praise. For Andrew, he is 100% motivated if he feels everyone believes in him. He has expressed that his teachers are awesome. They just want to ensure that Andrew remains on track.
This article climbs into the struggle of young black males. Many issues that are recurring such as early school dropout, delinquency, poverty, unemployment, incarceration, fatherless, and they don’t have much of a chance to lead a successful life. Most black males are set up to fail at this rate and all this leads to a need to develop interventions to save those lost lives of the young black communities.
The goal of this program is to 1. Change a student’s behavior, 2. Change the behavior of the teacher, 3. Or a combinations of both. The behavior modification approaches are directed toward helping a teacher manage the behaviors in the children in the classroom.

This student, Madeline, had several behavioral issues. These behavioral issues made it difficult for her to work with the other members of the section. She was easily distracted, and extremely talkative. She had great difficulty following the rules, and often got in trouble with our band director. She also got into fights with the other girls in the section.
The rules were simple and clear and displayed on the wall. The educators approached the individual child quietly and reminded him of the rules and told him what of what he could do while he was there. A lot of positive reinforcement was used throughout the afternoon to

Since this has happened we have seen a massive improvement in his behaviour and lunch times for him have been much better and because of
African American males struggle every day to prove their worth in an educational setting. According to society these young men are when it comes to their peers. Early education or daycare is a child’s first educational learning experience outside the home. However, not all African American males have this experience. A handful of African American males miss the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of learning social and cognitive skills. As a result, the absence of the early education effects the African American males’ ability to achieve higher learning. By the start of elementary school, these young men are already behind their peers in learning new information. In an effort to hide their lack of understanding they lose focus and become disruptive and begin to act like the class clown. Although the blame shouldn’t be placed solely on them, their teachers play a major role when it comes to educating the youth. They have to discover what inspires each child, yet they always seem to abandon the African American male’s interest and individual learning style. Young men go through the school system experiencing deficiency when it comes to their learning styles, due to the lack of teachers understanding their circumstances and how to engage them. Every child, especially African American males can have a chance to succeed in school if teachers have a full understanding of their cultural and learning styles. Which leads them to seep through the education system,
When using Applied Behavior Analysis, the role of the teacher is crucial. For ABA to be used correctly, a teacher must keep documentation on every student. This documentation should be taken frequently and with precision. Little details such as a shift in interest should be documented. This documentation will show the progress each child makes in the process of modifying their behaviors. In addition to keeping thorough documentation, teachers must examine each student individually. In observing their interests, teachers can form individual enforcers for each student. For example, if a student always chooses to do puzzles during free time, puzzle pieces could be a reinforcer. Every time the student does something that deals with the positive modification of behavior, they can earn a puzzle piece. When all of the pieces are earned, they will be able to put the puzzle together. This method is beneficial when correcting a student’s behavior.
Adolescence is the critical period when youth try to figure out who they are and where they fit into the world. Being a part of a minority group African American adolescents not only have to figure out their place in the world but also their place in their own ethnic group (Arnett). Charles (2003) essay is on the idea of low self-esteem and self-hate as the dominant reasoning for why Jamaicans bleach their skin. There is so much miseducation to youth in Jamaicans coming from older adults, peers, and music telling them that lighter is better (Charles 2003).
A kid must behave accordingly inside the classroom. If not, he will receive a corresponding punishment such as silence game depending on his actions.
