The behavior I chose to change for my behavioral analysis was my sleeping habit. For years, I have steadily gained less and less sleep each night. Not gaining enough sleep each night was not only effecting my health but also my academic life. I had many external and some internal factors that played into my lack of sleep. I saw this assignment as another factor into my drive to change how much sleep I was receiving. The reason I choose to change my sleeping habits correlates with how academic years have passed. Since my senior year of high school, I began to go to bed later and later each night. At first it was due to academic reasons such as having too much homework and scholarship applications, but then stress and anxiety about my academic and personal life began keep me up at night as well. When I began college, those same reasons followed me. Living on my own in a dorm hall, I experienced freedom I had never had before while living at home. Aside from having freedoms to choose my curfews or which events I participated in, I saw this change as a relief from high school years. My parents tried to enforce strict rules on my curfew and even stricter rules about my bedtimes and whether I could read before bed or have my phone in my rom. Once I got to college, I abused the right to make those decisions for myself. Is it possible to change how biological lifeforms functions if we were to shine a light on them every hour at night? Knowing how most animals work, and from that of human experience I can say that light is what makes us stay awake; therefore if we have a light shined on us every hour would we lose sleep? You should take advantage of the time you have and follow these easy tips: Adjust lighting at the proper time for sleep, a dim or dark room will signal to the body that it is time to rest; keep your sleep schedule on the weekends consistent with your class schedule; if you have eight o’clock classes during the week do not sleep in until 1pm on Saturday and Sunday; turn off notification from your cell phone or other electronic devices, use an actual alarm clock to wake you up so you are able to silence any other objects that have the potential to wake you up; and finally get in the habit of getting the full seven to nine hours suggested, once your body becomes used to this it will expect the same every night and will set its own personal sleep schedule.
My sleep patterns on the weekend are very different to my sleep patterns on the weekday because I usually go to bed really late and not wake up until late in the afternoon. During this journal, it was hard for me to get used to waking up on specific times, since I would stay up late to do homework or study for a test coming up. Ever since I have begun life at college, I have found going to bed on a decent time each night a very troublesome task. This paper examines five different sources of information that addresses information pertaining to wakeful resting or sleeping and the effects it has on memory garnered by experiments performed on humans and animals. Wakeful resting is defined as an individual that has not fallen asleep but has engaged in a period of rest that cuts them off from the distractions of the outside world. Research proves that when a teenager tries to change their sleeping schedule it becomes difficult because they are used too going to sleep late. Some high schools are thinking about changing the time they begin and let out so that students could get on the right sleeping track. Schools should not change the time because some students are already used too the schedule that they have now.
In the past, organizations have done many studies that show students stay up late for many reasons including jobs, homework, and extracurricular activities. There also has been studies done that proves majority of students don’t get the recommended amount of sleep they need.
In order to be a successful student at USMAPS and beyond, a cadet candidate must employ a proper sleep schedule. While the mechanisms of sleep are only partially clear and primarily left to scientific speculation, everyone can agree that the vitality of sleep and circadian rhythms is indisputable. That said, while I go through the academic year, I have developed a plan to maintain my sleep habits and ensure that proper sleep will benefit me throughout my academic endeavors.
The neonatal or special care nursery environment is one of variable but constant movement, light and noise. Such an environment is not conducive to the entrainment of good sleep habits. Discuss the impact this environment has on preterm infants in terms of their neuropsychological development and sleep patterns. Consider the longer term implications, and the measures that can be taken to minimise or overcome these.
My overall experience with the behavior change project was positive, as I was able to successfully change my sleeping habits. Although there were times when sticking to my behavior change plan was extremely difficult, I was able to stay on track and change my sleeping habits. As a result of my behavior change, I now feel healthier and less fatigued. Because of these physical improvements, important areas of my life, such as school and sports, have improved also. My performance in the classroom and on the basketball court has noticeably become better after making this behavior change.
