I have learnt, through readings and through shadowing veterinarians, that being a problem solver is an essential skill to be equipped with as a successful veterinarian. Without this skill it would be near impossible to recognize, diagnose, and successfully treat, a patient. Therefore, I have demonstrated my problem-solving skills by; working on a swine farm preforming herd health which involves evaluating ill piglets, sows and boars, and through watching and picking up on techniques used when shadowing veterinarians. I chose the career of a Vet Technician. This job is often confused with the veterinarian or veterinary technologist. These two fields are totally different than a vet technician. Veterinarian required eight years of schooling, where the Veterinary technologist requires a bachelor degree in applied science. Being a veterinary has its responsibilities and they have to be followed by everyone in the clinic or workplace to make things simple and keep it a good organized place to work . It is way more difficult and not as simple, everyone just thinks that being a vet is just about taking care of animals and that's it, but it's really more than that. Also being a veterinary technician is similar to a veterinarian but they have different duties. One of the duties of being a tech is evaluat animals assist veterinarian, collect samples and administer medication, clean and wrap wounds and many more duties.
For my subject I chose veterinary technician. I chose this job because I love animals. This experience proved invaluable, exposing me to various aspects of veterinary care and providing hands-on experience in assisting with daily exams, diagnostic testing, and surgical procedures. My hard work and passion landed me the position of veterinary assistant, where I went from being an assistant to being a leader. As a veterinary assistant, I completed the previously listed tasks along with supporting veterinarians and maintaining detailed medical records, documenting patient information, and evaluating treatment outcomes. Thus enhancing and expanding my communication skills as I facilitated communication between veterinarians, staff, and pet owners ensuring efficient coordination of patient care. The career that I want to achieve is a Veterinarian. I want to become a Veterinarian after I graduate college. Want to become that, because I would like to help out animals that are sick and be able to make their owners happy. I would have to go to high school and go to classes to learn about health science. Then, go to college and learn more about science so I will be able to know what is need to become a veterinarian. I will get my degree in college and graduate.
When pondering the question of who I want to become, I looked back on my childhood and remembered the many pets I had, 3 hamsters Ms. Shaq, Mr. Penny, and blister, four rabbits Cotton ball, Fluff ball, Whisky, and black boy. Taking a look down memory lane, I can remember having a love for animals from elementary until now, I have nursed and taken care of animals for so long On the day I graduated high-school I was assured I wanted to become a veterinary technician. I wanted to become a veterinary technician because the passion and love I have for animals through having my own pets I experienced giving my dogs medications, giving my rabbits antibiotic shots, clipping nails, and cleaning ears.
One major part of all peoples’ lives is health care, without it society would have no way of staying healthy and happy, and people would also have no way of treatment in case of an emergency. This also applies to all the pets’ lives are shared with. A certain profession is also needed to provide this care service for all of the animals. The people responsible for this service are Veterinarians. There is a lot to learn about the career of a veterinarian, including all of the schooling required, what a vet does, all of the advantages as well as the disadvantages, and the future outlook for this career.
When I was a child, I was always asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The answers ranged from musician, manager, doctor, and veterinarian. I have an interest of being at a school where I want to be a vet tech. I would like to learn more about animals than I am now at the career center being in a animal care class. That would make my application complete trying to get into a school with vet tech classes. I would like to learn how to take care of sick animals and how the vet tech does x rays and all kinds of experience that I would like to see because i’m not getting that kind of experience at the medina county career center. Veterinarians provide medical services for animals that are big and small. Helping sick animals weather they are big or small. They provide medicine for house pets and farm animals. When owners take there pet to the vet they are looking for someone to provide information to them about their animal. Some of the information given to the own is about how to properly care for your animal to make sure it grows the right why. Veterinarians are there to help animals no matter the size.
A veterinary assistant has an important role in the veterinary clinic, they are responsible for a range of tasks. Veterinary assistants assist veterinarians with every aspect of animal care, it is their responsibility to ensure that the animals are safe, clean and well taken care of, they clean and disinfect animal cages, sterilize surgical equipment, and often perform day to day caretaking tasks such as feeding and weighing animals. They also administer the correct medications, collect blood, urine and tissue samples for testing, monitor animals during surgery, check that the vet clinic is running smoothly on a daily basis and help answer pet owners questions and concerns.
The first time that I heard about substance abuse was during the final exam of my first semester at the veterinary school. I still clearly remember students who had pale faces with dilated pupil, acting strange and unusual, a week before and during the final exam. Later on, I learned that these students were abusing prescription drugs to gain an edge on their studies and exams. Since then, I have heard many stories about substance abuse by veterinarians and technicians that ultimately ended in their dismissal. After all, I started thinking that why we have such a high rate of addiction and substance abuse in the veterinary profession and why they have not yet been addressed properly.
