Are people too stubborn and independent to learn once they become adults? The Adult Learning Theory focuses on the difference between how adults learn and how children learn. There are three main central ideas that support the Adult Learning Theory. These ideas or theories are known as andragogy, self-directed learning, and transformational learning. Andragogy is the teaching of adults, self-directed learning is the individual controlling their learning, and transformational learning is the individual learning from life experiences.

In “My Experience with Older Adults” paper is different from my perspective on the elderly now. Taking this course has broadened my understanding of the senior citizen generation. I had experience on my cultures definition of what it means to be an elderly. All I knew, was giving the outmost respect to the elders. In addition, being anti nursing homes due to my upbringing and culture. However, this course exposed me to many practices, cultures, beliefs, traditions, rituals, and concepts in the older adult communities. The first two chapter of this book reflects on the globalization of the world. In chapter two it discusses globalization causes on adult and higher education in developing countries. It seemed that it should have increase the awareness that adult education was needed, but it did not. Just like some states in the US, internationally the adult education in developing countries undervalue. I do not think that the US will ever go back to becoming a developing nation, nonetheless many of the practices in some of the states in the union makes me question our passion for developing our adult learners.

Chapter five states the individual learning enhancing. It also list categories on how group work helps the individual. Chapter six states the twelve basic principles and practices for effective adult learning. it also about immediacy, which is a tool from the learning needs and resources assessment.

There might not be a better decision than going back to school as an adult. This is particularly because one has the opportunity of enhancing their career and accomplishing their lifelong goals. The choice of going back to school as an adult is thus an easy decision. Despite the fact that reaching this decision is easy, following through the decision is the most difficult part. Difficult. This is because of the challenges that adult learners face in their day to day lives as students. The challenges they face range from work to schooling to ensuring that the have adequate time available in their day for their family and friends. Finding the time to ensure that adult learner's educational dreams are realized can be quite an enormous challenge. The adult learners feel that they can not support their family while working and attending classes every day. This is a challenge as they find it difficult to keep up with school as to get good grades to ensure that they progress (William, 2003).
