The world thrives on randomness, and I seek to live on this roller coaster without any hiatuses. It rolls dices across billions of people, choosing the lucky and unlucky ones. Anyone can prepare him/herself to the fullest in order to succeed, however, no one can predict the unique situations that they might oppose. You could be super poor but somehow win the lottery. Everything could be fine at first, but then love ones dies, your house burns down, or you crash your car. How do you prepare for the aftershocks of events like these? Different strokes of luck could be inches or miles away from you. I would try to cope with whatever the world throws at me. I would search for the positives from a random crisis. If I perform awfully in a soccer game, …show more content…
What started out as a simple birthday party for Mr. Hosokawa turned into a multiple month stand between the terrorists and the African government. The randomness of the world bestowed this holdup on the main characters in this book. They expected a sweet birthday accompanied by the Roxane Coss, however they were met with a terrorist attack. People were shocked, and “ran, but only for an instant, only until their eyes readjusted to the light and they saw the utter uselessness of their fight” (12). Who would have predicted such an uneventful occurrence? Then, the world decided it wanted a terrorist to fall in deeply with a hostage. “Gen was in love with Carmen” (202). This idea became so random to Gen that even he question the existence of his feelings for her. Why would the world pair these two together? They literally have nothing in common. The world works in weird ways. That was the most unlikely love story to ever happen. Gen just suddenly felt in love with a terrorist who he originally thought was a guy. Also, everyone was falling in love with Roxane Coss, not Carmen. The idea of Carmen and Gen was very surprising, but that just how the world
There are times in life that we attribute good luck to our hard work, dedication or talent but there are some other times when we can say that luck is just a chance that we get. As we can see on the work of this two authors James H. Austin the author of “Four kinds of chance” published in Saturday Review and Robert H. Frank author of “why luck matters much more than you think” published in The Atlantic (May 2016) they show the reader how chances can influence in different ways. After reading their work I consider Robert H Frank article more effectively fulfills his thesis.
Read the book "The Drunkard's Walk - How Randomness Rules Our Lives" by Mlodinow and pay special attend to the following questions. Some of these questions may appear on quizzes and exams.
Overall, adversity is not always something to be avoided. Once someone is affected by adversity in their life, they must keep going and work through it opposed to allowing it to block them permanently. While enduring a difficult time, people are most vulnerable and receptive, making it imperative to properly handle these misfortunes that shape
Japanese-Americans were forced to evacuate from coastal areas following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. A massive amount of Americans who were not of Japanese descent believed that the Japanese community could not be trusted, so the government felt that it was necessary to remove them from their homes and place them in camps located away from militarized coastal regions. This was a controversial decision at the time and still receives criticism today for going against typical American constitutional values centering around citizen’s unalienable rights. Through the research of many letters written during Japanese internment or reflecting on the event, it seems that Japanese-Americans of that time period had mixed feelings about being relocated and the majority of the community was upset that they were viewed and treated differently than other Americans but did acknowledge that the overall treatment they received at camp was fair. Japanese Internment camps were psychologically damaging to Japanese-Americans due to the racist nature of selective forced evacuation, and the Japanese community was more upset about being removed from their homes than how they were treated at camp.
It sounds like using the stratified random sampling would be a good choice for using a particular group of people. In stratified random sampling the individuals conducting the research know some things about the community that is providing date such as age, gender, ethnicity, and medical diagnosis. This is also a good option when there is a time restraint to obtain the information that is being gathered. The survey would also have to be ensured it is written in a way that the average person can clearly understand the question to get a proper answer.
Facing and overcoming adversities are regular occurrences in our day to day lives. Although they may be difficult to overcome, one must learn how to confront these circumstances as it is inevitable and part of the life we all endure. Prior to reading the novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hoessni, I was uncertain of how to prevail my obstacles. Up to now, whenever I encountered a challenge I was always dependant on luck, hoping that it would assist me. I used this element of luck as my excuse or explanation to my problems, whether it was making it to the volleyball team or answering a simple test question, I believed that luck was the key to my success. This was evident when I made it to the volleyball team in grade nine. I
To this day, everything seems to be falling apart but continuing to seek joy and happiness in the small things have been keeping me afloat. I have learned that you can’t control every situation, but you can control how you react. Reaction is ultimately what describes you as a person, which develops your
Sometimes, it’s preparing for the worst that makes the good times great. Sometimes, it’s the knowledge that anything can and will happen, that makes life worth living. There is much to be learned from such an event, both practical, and ideological. The monthly mandatory fire drills seemed pointless, as I knew the chaos that can occur within a brain, which could never be recreated through such a childish procedure. I learned to watch for exit signs, possible escape routes, and have taken a liking to sitting against a wall in restaurants. These things, while seemingly miniscule, will never go away, yet there is also a deeper change, something less physical, and more emotional. Not a lack of emotion, but an understanding of its use. I understand loss, yet I felt no need to cry from the loss of my
These all seem like very normal circumstances in life, although some are a bit extraordinary such as fires, floods, and storms. Even though they happen infrequently to many people, they do happen fairly regularly across the spectrum. When reviewing the common reasons listed above, it is also important to think of
I was in the third grade when I watched my grandma place diyas, small cup-shaped oil lamps, around the house on Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. Because I was too young to light the matches myself, I would watch my grandma ignite the fire on the matches to light the candles. As an eight year old fascinated with the idea of pretty lights, I would watch as the flames danced in random directions, intrigued by the flickering images they were capable of producing.
Life is unpredictable, and at times cruel, but we are not the product of our experiences nor the fruition of our chemistry. Such aspects of life serve to influence us, but are far removed from defining who one becomes as a person. Adversity and change is a part of life, but in order to take control of our lives we must due the utmost of our capabilities, lest we have regrets.
Sometimes we really don 't know what 's in store for us in life. I always live in the moment and conquer life one day at a time and never took anything for granted. Of course life can be difficult but it 's up to you how you deal with it. I admit that life is not always peachy and positive. “Be smart enough to hold on, be brave enough to let go. Sometimes, we need to hold onto faith while letting go of the outcome. Open your hand and hold your dreams gently, don’t try to grab them” (Thresca).
I like to believe that everything happens for a reason. Coincidences are something unknown to me. Marilyn Monroe once said, “I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they 're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” With all my ups and downs, my mistakes, and my responsibilities I deem I have matured as an individual. Psychologically maturity is the ability to react to the environment in an appropriate manner. Maturity is the comprehension of the purpose in life. Life’s purpose, the direction in which it is aiming, and the feeling of life being meaningful. If the major down in my life never happened I wouldn’t be who I am today and wouldn’t have reached the understanding of everything happening for a reason.
New York is the ‘First City’ and Chicago is the ‘Second City’, and although Chicago is similar to New York, it is NOT New York. Therefore, people in Chicago are generally a bit nicer than people in New York and will help you with directions if you get lost. Getting around New York is complex like an abstract painting, very difficult to navigate, and people are generally extremely rude and do not want to help you, including police officers and local shop owners. Chicago is not really like that. If you ask people for directions they will most likely try to help you.
Life is all the ways fluctuations and we have to cope and deal many hard times but that doesn’t mean we are ending and we have become the unluckiest one in this world. Everyone has to go through the suffering that is not only me neither only you. Everyone has destiny that I also believe to some extend but the more important than that is our determination, our thought, our ambition which keep us moving forward. Just imagine the tree in the winter, how ugly it looks like without leafs without flowers just with its empty limbs. But we find the same tree after the spring, it will be filled with the leaves and flowers and fruits which embraces the environment and adds the charming on the surroundings. Our life also goes sometimes same ways as of the impact of weather. We are not finding the fruits of ourselves because it is not the season but we have to wait for the right time to enjoy the fruits.
