Ben oversaw his great polar bear empire as the bears slaved for him. Their kingdom was vast, and their race was great. The white, ferocious beasts roamed the land on their oversized paws of power. Nothing could even consider standing in their way, all 5,000 of them. The food chain was theirs, and instead of humans hunting them the bears were hunting them. The homeland of the bears was in the heart of Greenland, an island that used to be inhabited by humans, until the bears eradicated their existence. This is the story of Ben and his mighty polar bear empire. Ben was a formidable opponent, and nothing could reckon with Ben’s half-human half-polar bear nature. It was a deadly combination; the human attributes of intelligence and patience along …show more content…
These Bananas were large in population, approximately 100,000 of them roamed the deep jungles of Ethiopia, with their deadly explosive and pyromaniac-like nature that was deadly to the other fruits of the world. The bananas biggest enemy was the Adam’s apple Clan, which was also large in numbers.
Ben’s land was quite vast for only 5,000 polar bears. The cold, desolate land north of Canada was claimed by the great beasts. Also, the great Siberia of Russia was being taken over by the bears. The bears were going to replace humans very soon. The humans had a great war that nearly obliterated their race. Now, the bears were strong, and the humans were puny compared to the large carnivorous animals that roamed the ice cap.
Now Ben was sitting on his throne, watching over the bears as they hunted their beluga whales and the seals. The bears loved seal fat, and it was as valuable to them as gold. Bears had a tax and agreed to give Ben 10% of their seal fat. With this, ben gave about 5% to the poor or old bear to live, and he ate the other 5%. In addition to the whales or seals, the polar bears occasionally ate berries or vegetation, but this was usually when times were rough. Winter was coming to an end, and mating season would start. Since it was already March, Ben decided to take a look at the large freezer the bears had. “Somebody please escort me to the giant freezer,

Many seal and whale carcasses hung from metal hooks in the freezer. These bodies would last them during the summer when hunting was harder to accomplish. Human interaction was rare, and the cave was heavily guarded by great polar bear warriors. Inside were a couple of polar bears taking inventory of the amount of seals located in the freezer. Ben asked Ned, “How many are we lookin’ at for the summer, Ned?” Ned replied with an eager voice, “Sir, we are looking at roughly 800 carcasses, which seems to be sufficient for our regional clan. The bears in Canada are looking at 1000 carcasses, and the boys in Russia are looking at 600 carcasses.” Ben was pleased and told the bear thank
The Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) is a bear native largely within the Arctic Circle encircling the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and land masses. Although it is closely related to the Brown Bear, it has evolved to occupy a narrower ecological forte, with many body characteristics adapted for cold temperatures, for moving across snow, ice, and open water, and for hunting the seals which make up most of its diet. Though there are many theories surrounding evolution, the two stand outstanding hypotheses applying to the modification from Brown Bear to Polar Bear are Lamarck’s theory of Use and Disuse, and Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection. The intention of this paper is to compare these thesis and determine the most appropriate in
The melting sea ice is also affecting the polar bear's main prey, seals, forcing the bears to turn to alternate, less nutritious food sources. Once sea ice forms in the winter, seals use the ice to create dens to give birth to their pups. In these months, polar bears use sea ice as their hunting grounds to find seal dens. Now that Seasonal Ice is forming later and melting earlier (IPCC, 2013), seals have less time to build dens and give birth. Consequently, polar bears have less time to hunt their preferred prey of seal pups. They must spend more time on land hunting other animals of less nutritional value. Organizations like Sea World Parks have reported male polar bears occasionally eating newly-born polar bear cubs because they cannot find other food to eat. Lack of nutritional food leads to a reduced body size. Polar bears are becoming thinner and weaker from not eating enough (Rode, Amstrup, & Regehr 2010). They have to swim longer distances to find ice to hunt upon, causing many cubs to die because they are not yet strong enough. In the Hudson Bay, the average polar bear weight has decreased by 15% and the population has decreased by 20% (National Wildlife Federation). In the summer when there is no ice, polar bears in the Hudson Bay go onto land to fast until the ice reforms. Now that ice is
increased because they could pick away at the left-over carcasses that the wolves left. The bears
The Koyukon Indians must know how to find the bear’s den. The den entrances are hidden beneath 18 inches of powdery snow and are given away to subtle clues that the koyukon are familiar with. One of the clues are patches where no grass protrudes because the bear as clawed it away for insulation and “faint cavities in the ground hinting of the footprint depressions in the moss below ”. After capturing the bear they must kill it in accordance to Koyukon customs and tradition. These rules and customs are set in place for the purpose of not disrupting the bear’s spirit and to show respect for the animal and the environment.
n the book, Seekers Great Bear Lake, Erin Hunter tells a story of three young bears-one black, polar, and grizzly-and a puzzling shape-shifting bear each are following a path towards a mystical destination. But then encounter the divine Great Bear Lake. Together the four bears help each other to survive the harsh attacks from other aggressive bears and the scarcity of food they find among the wild. Later on, the three bears separated to go to their own sleuths, but soon after they separated they united together once again along with Kallik the polar Lusa the black bear. It’s only after that Toklo the grizzly bear accepts other bears like Lusa the black bear and Ujurak the shape-shifting bear to join along with them to their trip to the mystical
The hunters aren’t really arguing for their right to hunt bears; they’re fighting for their freedom. They see hunting as their livelihood. Hunting keeps the population in check and keeps bears from attacking children or raiding farms. With too many bears,
The Black Bear was a bear tribe that lived in the northwest of the United States. They were around Niagara Falls and the Adirondack Mountains. The Iroquois bear tribe was not just one tribe, but there was five. There was the Mohawk tribe, Oneida tribe, Onondaga tribe, Cayuga tribe, and Seneca tribe. The bear tribes were not together, they were against each other. The bear tribes hated each other, they were fight over this special spot right in the middle New York. This part of New York had the fall so the bear tribes could catch the biggest fish and it also had to sharpest trees so the bear could scratch there furry backs, but that was not the only thing, they also wanted dominance over each other. The reason the Black Bear Iroquois tribes really wanted this spot, it was the best way to communicate. When bears rub against the trees they are not just scratching, they are also communicating.
It was in Eurasia, within 500,000 years ago, that brown bears roamed the land. It was a time when Eurasia was found coated in ice and the Arctic ocean became it. A pack of brown bears were forced to separate for the hunt for food. It is believed that glaciers forced isolation upon the packs resulting in the deaths of many bears. Isolation was an important part of the evolution between the two bears as it forced those with an evolutionary advantage, such as the colour and thickness of their coats, to enhance these advantages and managed to survive and breed. Unlike those who were unable to cope with the environment. This generation then made new adaptations to further increase their likelihood of survival in the polar environment (PBS, 2015). For example, the bears required differently shaped teeth. As seen in the picture below, the back teeth of a polar bear are less in number and size. However, it is clear that the front teeth are larger and sharper. This is because of the change in environment forcing a change in diet for the bears; instead of eating berries the bears had to consume seals and needed sharper teeth to tear through skin. In order to camouflage themselves the bears, overtime, grew white fur to blend in with the snow. Another adaption made the these bears is the hunting technique used; at first only seal carcasses that had washed ashore were eaten by them however over time the bears
This essay will discuss Statement 1 as given: "Treadwell was, I think, meaning well…Those bears are big and ferocious and they come equipped to kill you and eat you . . . He got what he deserved, in my opinion.” I am in agreement with this opinion. Treadwell acted foolishly, and the only surprising aspect of the result was that it took so long to happen.
The Kodiak bear is a very unique bear, different from other bears but similar at the same time. They have adopted to the ways of living on the islands, learning to survive with many other of their own kind. People should know more about this bear and how its lives affect ours. I’m hopeful this report will interest people into learning more about the Kodiak bear. The Kodiak bear, the largest bear in the
The polar bear, the largest land carnivore in North America, one of the largest animals in the world and a favorite at zoos worldwide, has, over the years, adapted to its harsh Arctic environment. The appropriately named ‘ursus maritimum’ or sea bear usually lives between 15 and 18 years in the wild and spends most of its life on ice. It is the most recent of the eight bear species. The first polar bear was a brown bear subspecies, with brown bear dimensions and brown bear teeth. The polar bear evolution was rapid due to the small population and extreme pressure to survive. Even today, the polar bear continues to evolve to better adapt to the harsh realities of Arctic life.
With the ever rising global temperatures, melting ice caps, and constant warnings about global warming, it is no wonder that the animals inhabiting the artic regions around the world are now suffering a decline in their habitat as well as their livelihood. Such is the case with the Polar Bears who may soon be gone in a scant few years.
The polar bear lives up in the Arctic region where global warming and climate change are melting the ice caps that the bears thrive on. They use the ice as a platform from hunting and rest. The random pocket holes in the ice, where the seals pop up at, is where the polar bear catches its prey. With this reduction of ice, “the abundance of seals, and increases the amount of energy and time needed for hunting, leaving less energy for reproduction” (Endangered Species and Habitats).
Polar bears are one of the countless species who are endangered. They were one of the first animals affected by global warming and their population is heavily decreasing. Around 1980, the Arctic was as large as 8 million square kilometres. In 2011, studies show that the Arctic has reduced its size to 4.5 million square kilometers. In the future, will there be anything such as the Arctic? Scientist predict by 2040, only a fringe of ice will remain in Northeast Canada and Northern Greenland. This is known as the Last Ice Area. This matter is mostly taking part in Canada, since; Canada holds more than half the world’s polar bear population. Other affected countries include the U.S. (Alaska), Greenland,
In his eagerness he came to close grapples with the bear, and his bones were crushed; but the bear had much meat on him and the people were saved.” This shows that due to the setting people had to resort to facing off intimidating polar bears, in a pursuit of food. In most situations, (for example: Keesh’s father) people had died or ended up seriously injured from just trying to get some food to eat! Throughout this excerpt, Keesh and the villagers have to survive the harsh conditions of the arctic, hunger, and terrifying predators.
