The Benefit of Fame and Fortune Oops! Lindsey Lohan is in rehab again! Why wasn't Shia LeBouf on the last transformers? Maybe because he is an alcoholic now. Celebrities are supposed to be role models to today’s society. Being a role model would typically include doing charitable work or doing humanitarian deeds for the goodness of the society and environment. Celebrities are known for crimes ranging from driving under the influence to surprisingly, murder. These crimes are often dismissed under the court of law. When faced in court most cases, the jury declares them not guilty, or gives them the option the complete a given amount of time of community service or rehabilitation

A powerful lawyer plus a significant amount of money equals a non guilty verdict. When the quality of a lawyer is superb, the lawyer will more than likely only work for those who can pay for superbness. Celebrities can afford to pay the hefty fee of a noteworthy lawyer. Not being able to pay an experienced lawyer and being stuck with a public defense lawyer lowers the chance the average persons’ chance to get away with crime. Public defense attorneys rarely care about the outcome of the trial but the emolument that comes along with it. Laurie Levenson, a Loyola law professor, stated, “It may be as difficult to put a multimillionaire in prison as it is to put a camel through the eye of the needle.” (Deutsch) The odds of a celebrity ending up in prison is quite slim. There should not be a price on freedom, everyone either serves their desired time or they fix themselves in rehab, but everyone should have the same opportunity. Celebrities obviously have a significant amount of money to spend on their trials, and in the end it pays off. Incarcerated family members have family that they have not spoken to or seen in years because they could not afford an adequate lawyer to cover their cases. “A study shown in Crain’s New York Business’s article, in contract cases alone, 9% of the defendants who went to trial did so without a lawyer because of a lack of funds needed to hire legal representation.” (Rivkin) The lawyers that cost the most are more likely those who succeed in the court room. Celebrities deserve the same penance as normal
A celebrity is not a person known for his/her talent or achievement, but an individual recognized for his/her reputation created by the media. The phase of stardom is slippery, and media may choose to represent celebrities varying from exaggerated admiration to mockery. The three texts chosen, movie "Sunset Boulevard", feature article "Over the Hilton" and television show "Celebrity Uncensored Six" are texts presenting different perception of celebrities than their usual images - either corrupted by the encircling media, overloads oneself with self-indulgence, or just mocks celebrity in a broad spectrum. Such media items empower and impresses the audience by perceiving celebrities as people who pay the price of privacy to gain well
As Bryan Stevenson, executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative in Alabama, said 95 percent of the 3,350 people on death row were poor in 2007. People who cannot afford to pay high lawyer fee have a higher chance to receive the capital punishment. Horace Dunkins, Gary Drinkard and John Eldon Smith are the examples that were sentenced to death because their lawyers failed their responsibilities. Dunkins’ lawyers failed to show his mentally retarded to prove his non-intention; Drinkard’s lawyer failed to prove that he was unable to murder due to his back injury; Smith’s lawyer lacked of awareness of changing rules. However, in the case of Ethan Couch, he killed four people and got 10 years’ probation with a recommendation for treatment of his “affluenza” only. Punishment failed to accomplish its purpose. It punished the innocent but leave the criminal away. This really hesitated me to support death
Yet another celebrity, Lindsay Lohan, has been down a downward spiral of DUIs, drug and alcohol abuse, theft, and driving with a suspended license. According to the Huffingtonpost, over the past eight years, Lohan has paid over $250,000 in legal fees, and
Watching reality TV shows like Keeping Up With the Kardashians where reality TV stars become famous by just living a luxurious life, teens or even adults might be encouraged that anyone can be famous by going on TV status and just “being themselves”, without any efforts or special talents. As John Humphrys points out, 'we tell kids what matters is being a celebrity and we wonder why some behave the way they do. This can build their desire of fame and to pursue celebrity status while ignoring the importance of education. Hence, reality TV discourages the value of hard work and education (IDEA,
In America, celebrities resemble an almost god-like being. People look to them as role models to show them how to live their own lives. In this sense celebrities act as a stand in for the Greek gods. In many cases today’s celebrities do not live the healthiest of lives. They commit crimes such as the use of drugs, go through many intimate relationships, and drive recklessly. Even though they do all this they get away without punishment the majority of the time. This is like their
Having fame at a young age does not always seem to work out for the best for every one.The misuse of drugs and even death have been brought upon people that have lived the celebrity life style from a young age. This is not the case for every one of course. For example, the cast of Harry Potter have been acting since they were young and they have had a huge career in acting and they have not gone off the rails. However celebrities such as Miley Cyrus have been in the limelight since being young and have now got an image of using drugs in the public eye. This has been shown by her music videos where she appears to be using drugs. I think celebrities that have been living the celebrity life style from a young age appear to have had a huge effect on their mental health and well being.
For the past decade justice and injustice have made headlines on social media, news report, and in our community. The current criminal justice system believe criminals should be punish and that the punishment fit the crime innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. Moreover, many people like myself justice means fairness and treating people fairly, without bias or partiality. However, Nowadays as I’ve observed justice seem to only be served to the wealthy, famous, and well liked. It seems like regardless of whether they are wrong they still get away with crimes that others are severing time in prison for.
The exact definition of honor is honesty, fairness, or integrity in one’s beliefs and actions. What honor means to me in the school environment is being respectful and honest with your teachers and fellow students. Ways that I feel that you can show honor is by not cheating on tests or assignments, always doing what the teacher asks without an argument, and the way you act and behave with extracurricular activities.
Back in Australia, she went to Lane Cove Public School and in addition North Sydney Girls' High School where she did expressive dance and indicated awesome guarantee for acting. She later learned at the Victorian College of the Arts and the Australian Theater for Young People.
Is a good name or the truth more important? In my opinion I would say that the truth is more important. The reason the truth is more important is because you can have a name that is really good with a really good reputation, but if you don’t tell the truth you will be “labeled” as a liar or fiber. In that case your reputation would change just like that and you would be called or referred to as the liar on the street.
Celebrities are famous people who have overachieved in life. That obviously means that they earn more salary than an average person. As a result, celebrities should get harsher penalties because if the consequences are the same as the average human, they would have to pay an extremely small portion of their currency. They can even bail out of penitentiary easier and quicker.
Pop culture icons need to support a drug free program instead of using harmful substances. Programs like Above the Influence, run by the Office of National Drug Protection, use the media for good instead of making drugs and alcohol seems acceptable to use. Stars should make it a goal to refrain from using drugs and drinking excessive amounts of booze because it sends a message to fans that a life of drugs and alcohol is a satisfactory way to live.
As Johnson has suggested, “Capital punishment in the United States is administered in an economically discriminatory way...It is always ‘you get what you pay for’ rule.” (2001) Consequently, on the one hand, those indigent defendants cannot afford to hire accomplished lawyers. On the other hand, even though the Supreme Court provide a court-appointed attorney for those people, the compensation is not high enough to entice or hire excellent defense attorneys for those people. In some cases, lawyers are indifferent about the cases or even be drunken during the trial. Innocent People on Death Row
Public figures display how to act in society for instance, being responsible and acceptive of everyone. As stated in the article, “Teens who idolize a celebrity who doesn’t give in to such pressures as weight and drugs will likely benefit from their obsession.” (Martinez). Acting responsibly in society giving into the pressure of doing drugs is something admirable that some public figures don’t give into. For example, Justin Bieber at one point in his life started to do drugs and it was ruining his career but he had started to reform and
Thus, public defenders tend to avoid spending the necessary amount of time on a capital case to effectively defend the defendant. Bedau and Cassel concluded “Death sentences are imposed in a criminal justice system that treats you better if you are rich and guilty than if you are poor and innocent.”
