Being American is more than having the right to proudly wave a red white and blue flag, more than relief to be apart of a fairly organized government, and it is certainly more than simply a tittle. To have a group of isolated tribespeople understand what it truly means to be American, they would have to understand the American Dream; a dream that was so unique to each individual, it required equal opportunity for all. Three things that represent what it means to be a unique dreamer in the pursuit of happiness are snails, Ford T car model, and fireworks. A snail is a miniature, bottom of the food chain, extremely sluggish moving ‘gastropod’; so, how can they be compared to Americans with their power and fast paced advances decade to decade.
I think birthright citizen should be abolished. It would be unfair to the people who work hard just to be an American Citizen. It takes a lot of process and it’s expensive. And undocumented parents coming to the U.S. and making a child that's officially an American Citizen, just because she/he was born in the U.S. soil, my opinion is that it’s unacceptable. It’s unfair for others who came in the United States illegal and applying for American Citizens, that takes years since you have to live in the U.S. for more than 4 years to be able to take the test for being an American Citizen.
Being an American is something I’m proud of, I have a lot more freedom than other countries. The Declaration of independence was declared on July 4th, 1776 and ever since then the government has only gotten better. Some of the reason the government has gotten better is, we have to ability to vote, and the government is making decisions and is projecting the rights for the citizens.
What does it mean to be an American? In today's day and age, the general perception of an American is to be free, free to practice any religion, free to speak your mind, free in general. However, America has only been able to be perceived as a promised land due to the obstacles and barriers that have been challenged by early Americans. From having to accept others religious beliefs to the abolishment of slavery. A good example is J. Hector St. John de Crevecoeur’s Letters from an American Farmer (1782). Letters from an American Farmer is a collection of twelve letters written from the perspective of a fictional character. These letters do a magnificent job at emphasizing on how America is similar to the environment and the people who feed
What it means to be American? Everybody you ask this question to will have a completely different response. Some responses might have similarities but none will be exactly the same. In the beginning of the year my response was “To be an American means having a rich history, having opportunities to better ourselves, and having freedoms.” Unfortunately not everyone has had the same opportunities or freedoms. Native Americans, who are indigenous, dealt with having their freedoms taken away, less opportunities even though they had rich history in this land before it was taken away from them. Look at what Zitkala-Sa endured. Not only that, but African Americans have fought long and hard for freedom and equality as well. W.E.B. Du Bois stood for
Being an American is having the right to bare arm , right to vote, and free education. An American person has more security and opportunities than any other nation. To be an American is to be free, courageous, respectful, and being happy. Being an American is being able to be yourself without being judged. To be an American one has to be able to form unity , be willing to fight for justice, and able insure domestic tranquility.
Don't be afraid to change because change only leads to a new beginning. Is there really such thing as freedom, how would you react if you could go somewhere without being judged and you can be who you are? America is simply a place where there is freedom. It's your choice if you want to take the freedom or not. To be an American means to believe in yourself and that you want to believe in.
Refugees are people who are forced to leave their home due to war, or natural disasters and try to start over by fleeing to a new country.Refugees are going through a lot, fleeing their homes, and having their lives turned inside out. For lots of families who are fleeing their country due to war or a natural disaster, it’s hard for them to adapt to their new lifestyle, learning a new language, new education, and bullies. Fleeing to America gives the refugees a fresh start in life, helps them to start over and more opportunities than they had in the country they fled from. “Children of War” “My graduation is next year, so I have to think about college...America is giving us a better future than we could have in Bosnia”(Brice-26).
Being American means you have the opportunity for foundation in life. Owning a piece of land means you have a home forever. Right to own property means you can own your own property. Right to own property means to be american because you can own your property so you can basically do what you want on it. The second reason is that I could practice whatever I believe in like christian, buddha, catholic, etc. The first Amendment means to be American because no one will stop you from practicing your religion you want to. No One could stop you you can practice it wherever you want, the government will not stop you from doing it. Have a lot of opportunities to work and get money.”Earth breathe eddies between factories and office buildings, caresses the
To me personally I feel like to be an American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. We might not all be perfect in the way of having everything we want , but it is one of the only countries to have rights given to people of different raises and gender. America does not have does not have a very good amount of poverty. But instead we have our own personal choices given to us by the people who fought and passed away for our freedom that we have today. Being an american means to go beyond yourself to create your own legacy, and to not give up until you achieve your goal.
Although individuals may tell others to chase after their dreams, they do not always carry them out themselves. Whenever it comes to my brother, however, he truly leads by example with this advice. Brendan is the most selfless person that I know, and many others would also agree with this. It has always been in Brendan’s nature to devote his time and credit to others instead of himself. He puts everything aside to help others, which has greatly impacted my life. Brendan has helped shape me into the person I am today, for he has taught me to do what I can for others instead of what I can do for myself. He is also constantly encouraging me to pursue my dreams and offers a great amount of help along the way. My dream of becoming a pediatrician
defining what it is to be an American. The thought of the American Dream brings to mind
Americans have not only defined themselves by their religious, ethnic and racial identity, but also by their individual freedom and common values. America has become a nation where its people can fight for what they believe in. Our founding fathers have formed America to be “the land of the free and the home of the brave”. Being apart of the American culture and living on the land founded by our leaders specifies the meaning of the American Identity.
To be an American means that you are living in peace and freedom. Americans Heave freedom of religion, work, and anything else you can think of. America offers jobs to anybody. America is a fantastic place and I think anyone who lives here would agree to tell you the same. Being an American is a privilege, and I will do whatever it takes to preserve that right as long as I live.
The country millions of Americans call home today would not exist without immigration. In the 17th century it started out with 13 colonies that were inhabited specifically by immigrants from England. Fleeing from their home country in search for a better life, they came to what we now call the united states. Immigration has been a reality all throughout history; for some, immigration provides hope for a brighter future for themselves and their families. However there are many set laws and regulations on immigration today, particularly in the united states. The time and energy that has been spent on debating and searching for efficient ways to deport and prevent future immigration could have been used in a more positive and a proactive manner
This leads us to another important point, being an American explains that you are part of one of the most diverse cultures in the world. America is one of the many few countries in the world where it is near impossible to define any nationality by one single race or religion. America is the most common place that most immigrants migrated to that is full of many different races, cultures, etc. In today’s world it is very difficult to find anyone who does not come from the immigrant bloodlines that are from Europe and Africa. In fact, in many cases many people say that anyone not of native american decent actually isn’t american. Anyhow in Amendment 5 it states “...nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; nor shall
