Extracurriculars are there for students to enjoy activities other than their academics, but it is also a way to shows that they can focus on education and outside life at the same time. Some students do not take school seriously enough. Coming to school might just be a way for athletes to participate in the sport they want to. Not every students has exceeding academic skills, however, anyone can succeed if they just try. Being able to multitask will behoove the students in the future. AVID is an educational and fun program that helps reach your goal, but next year I would like to do Spanish instead of AVID.The reason why is because if I have the chance to be in this extracurricular, it will help me speak the language,fluently write the language,and read the language that my family does at home.If I take two electives and get zero period. If I get zero period I will not be able to attend the early P.E. class due to the time I must be there.

The most important experience that has positively impacted my academic performance is being in AVID for the past 5 years. AVID is an acronym that stands for advancement via individual determination, a college preparatory class that helps prepare you for college, get organized, and set goals. I have been enrolled in AVID since 8th grade learning how to become a better student, improving study skills and the way I communicate with the students and teachers around me.

Because I was so focused on getting the help I needed to be successful in college, I was willing to learn the material on my own from the 9th and 10th grade AVID course to join the class as a junior. Before AVID, I did not have a strong passion to learn because I was not engaged in class. However after learning how to take organized notes and to ask in depth questions, I developed a desire to learn new academic concepts. I challenged my learning capabilities by enrolling myself in difficult AP and Honors courses offered at my high school. These classes would also prepare me for studying at the collegiate level.

I would like to be in AVID because I think it would be a great experience. Going on tours to colleges, making new friends and trying new things like advancing my skills in subjects seem like possibilities that i would like to be a part of. This program will test me in many things but with the help from others I am sure I can succeed. My strengths personally, I am very determined and I will push myself until I can better myself. I do not let many things get to me because I realize that later most of the things now will not matter in the future. My strengths academically is that I get my work done although sometimes I wish I was better at getting it done sooner than I do it. I always study when needed for test or quizzes. The EPIC Program was originally made to not only help students learn and prepare for college, but to also get the parents involved. The program has a low rate of upperclassmen involved, which would be optimal for a college prep program. They also don’t have an effective way to get parents involved. These both are difficult task. The program would rather have freshmen that want to be there get the help they need instead of upperclassmen that shows little interest. It is also hard to get parents in the building to teach them about college readiness as well because many work and are busy during the time of the program. Other improvements that the students and supervisor mentioned is more technical support for computers, music during tutoring time, and more activities to do outside or in the gym like sports. They also mentioned a new bridge coming to town that will cause some pollution and maybe working outside with environmental science as well. The program is in the school’s library with many computers, has dedicated and regular freshmen students, social workers (UM), and a stable space to work and learn. What they don’t have is maturity. As I was growing up I never thought about going to college, I came to the United States unaware of what an S.O.L, the SAT, honors, AP and DE classes were. I didn’t know anything about this. There was only one college I knew and that was James Madison University because it was everywhere in the city. When I was a freshman, history was my favorite subject it was just so fun to learn about the history of each country. When it was parent conference day my teacher told my mom that since i’m so good in history I can take World History History 2 honors. I didn’t know what an honors class was at that time but it sounded good so I decided to give it a try. Hello, I am Anahi Ceballos-Tapia and I am currently 13 years old. When I’ve first heard about the AVID program, I was very skeptical about what this program benefits. After asking which program would suit me the best for my future education, I’ve chosen to participate in this particular program. I feel that I have the skills and determination to have this course in Everett Alvarez High School. Therefore, I would like to be enrolled in AVID for various reasons. My foremost reason on why I want to be enrolled in AVID program is considering that it will help me tremendously on my academics in school, which would apply to helping me learn how to be successful all the way through college. Middle school and AVID have helped me through all the years I had middle school. When I reached middle school I was introduced to something called Cornell notes. This helped me to organize my notes better and to help me study my notes. By writing a summary at least a day I understood what I learned in class. When I also made the questions it made me think differently than how I normally would have thought before when taking notes. In middle school I was also given an agenda which helped me to remember my homework. At first I wasn’t use to getting so much homework and I usually forgot about it but that’s when the agenda came in and my life was easier. If I had to remember something I just put it in my agenda. Unfortunately, I had to speak to my mother more than once about her bragging to her friend, whose son I had refused asking for a Blind Date. If it wasn’t for my husband telling her that her actions made him feel she wished her friend son to be my husband more than him because she believes he can provide better for all of them, did she stop bring up about the Medical Unit’s visits.

Joining professional associations allows you to build your leadership skills, network, learn about new career opportunities, best practices, and find a mentor to help you with your professional goals. I believe that working with a mentor can help sort out the pros and cons of joining a professional association. In addition most associations provide an enormous amount of access to journal articles, trainings, case studies, and newsletters.

It allowed me to create a possible four year plan for success as I go through college. My academic plan taught me about required coursework and internships I must complete before graduation. I now know some of the options that I have for potential internships. This course was very beneficial as I transitioned into my freshman year of college. I was walked into college at a pace that was slower than most other freshman experience in this class to help me transition to college.
