Have you ever thought of what would happen to everyone on Earth if Genetically Modified Foods were allowed? According to the World Health Organization, Genetically Modified Foods or Genetically modified Organisms are organisms where the genetic material has been modified in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination(World Health Organization). Genetically Modified Foods are foods that are altered to give more portions and cause people to earn more money. They also are beneficial to the environment. Because of the extra money that is earned, the benefits it causes for the environment, and how it creates more large portions of it, Genetically Modified Foods should be allowed all over the world. In my paper I am going to discuss the benefits and disadvantages of Genetically Modified Foods and whether or not it’s good for us? Some benefits of Genetically Modified Foods are that they give the farmers greater portions of the food that is being modified. Some of the foods such as plants and animals are modified in many different ways. Plants are sprayed or watered with a certain chemical that keeps bugs away from the food. According to GMO Compass Animals are given food with the chemicals or it is given a shot containing the chemicals that cause the animals to produce more meat or other foods(Meats and Sausage). There are disadvantages as well but not as many as there are advantages. Some disadvantages are that the foods are sometimes not cleaned
Genetically modified foods can be good and bad for humans and the economy. For example, if you do not cook an genetically modify foods it can cause us humans to become deathly ill. If the soil is not treated before the genetically modified seed is placed into the ground it can damage the soil and the earth around it.

People opposed to genetically engineered crops believe genetically engineering a crop to have a higher nutritional value will cause problems with a person’s diet. They believe people will then disregard other foods besides the new genetically engineered food, and this will cause other health issues. This does not seem likely because genetically engineered crops with enhanced nutritional value are aimed to help people reach a certain daily value of a vitamin or mineral, not to replace a person’s whole diet. A person will still have to eat other foods with the new genetically engineered food, however, he or she will not have to eat as much to obtain the correct daily values of their vitamins and minerals. Countries such as Africa, who have a problem with people dying of starvation each year, could really use these kinds of crops. Crops that are genetically engineered to withstand drastic weather conditions and are higher in nutritional value could help Africa have a higher yield of crops to feed the starving children with. The increased nutritional value in these crops would also help the starving children get more of the vitamins and minerals they need to survive.
This paper examines the latest evidence on whether genetically modified foods have been proven safe for consumption. Also explored are how people might benefit from genetically modified crops and whether or not food products made from Genetically Modified (GM) crops should be labeled. I think that there are more benefits than risks in GMO foods. Some examples, are that we use less pesticides on GMO foods, new species can be created, and we also get to eat less viruses on Genetically modified papaya. This means that there is an estimate that about 70% of Genetically modified foods in our grocery shelves.

Having enough information about a subject becomes crucial for us to make certain decisions, in particular if it involves our health and environment. In the past few decades, a rise in the need for a cheaper food source has arisen. The world’s population was at six billion at the beginning of the 1990s, and it has increased rapidly. Not only that, but in just the United States, various studies have shown an increase to the population of the lower income level ranges. Genetic engineering of plants and animals has provided a solution to offering cheaper food sources, reducing such problems. Livestock could be given growth hormones to grow faster or to be heavier and nutrients could be added to produce. Yet, before everyone runs out to the store to buy these foods, an examination of what these foods can potentially do to a person’s health needs to be conducted. Not only must such an examination occur, but a study of the genetic integrity of various modified plants and animals to determine how they have been compromised by gene splicing must be undertaken. Also, people must scrutinize tests conducted by various companies which have presented results that do not follow logically from their experiments to their conclusions, particularly when such tests were conducted by the very companies profiting from GMOs. After considering such factors, people may be able to make educated decisions about GMOs and how these new organisms affect their health and the DNA of the natural world.
