In order for the Army to be a profession, the American people need to determine and declare us a profession. We provide security and defense to our citizens and in exchange, they trust and honor that our decisions are for the benefit of our nation. The people do not regulate the Army, but they trust that the Army regulates itself thru its ethic. I quote, “The Army Ethic is the evolving set of laws, values, and beliefs, deeply embedded within the core of the Army culture and practiced by all members of the Army Profession to motivate and guide the appropriate conduct of individual members bound together in common moral purpose.” Laws alone will not make a soldier a professional; it is the way the army educates, motivates and shapes a soldier to become a professional. Another reason I must re-enlist is the fact that my government deserves my loyalty. The Committee of Congress has stayed with us through much of the winter after arriving at Valley Forge a few weeks ago and has given us hope (Document B). That hope has sparked within us a new flood of encouragement and will power. When George Washington was talking to the 5 members of Congress, he expressed the fact that we brave soldiers need help in our battle with Britain (Document B). Even though it’s cold, and we have threadbare clothing that are merely rags, and the Congress members are all dressed in their finest, our spirit is still strong (Document B). Even Dr. Waldo stated that while tending to our sick soldiers, he was surprised by the magnitude of cheerful willingness to proceed with fighting for our cause (Document C). Dr. Waldo expected us to be down on our luck for having to withstand the poor food, fatigue, cold weather, crowded huts, and smoky air quality which was due to poor ventilation, but most soldiers were able to persevere through all of that hardship (Document C). The Committee of Congress makes me feel like someone is listening to our needs. The general supports us and the government cares about us, so I must support my government.

The United States Marine Corps is looking for a “Few Good Men” for their Officer Corps. There are a few different ways to achieve the rank of Second Lieutenant. Some officers go straight from college to a recruiter, and others join as an enlisted Marine and apply for an officer rank later in their career. I am applying for a commission from the enlisted ranks. I have found that enlisted to officer programs have many requirements and can be somewhat confusing, but the goal of making a move from enlisted to officer can be accomplished as long as I are willing to put forth the effort to achieve that goal.

Being in the military comes with plenty of benefits. Free education is probably the number one reason (how do you think I am paying for my school right now). You get to travel and see things you thought you would never see. Not only do you become physically tough but also mentally tough. You become prepared for the tough civilian life. Markos Moulitsas Zuniga repots that, “The Army taught me the very values that make us progressives--community, opportunity, and investment in people and the future.” Although many feel that they should not join the military it can really improve our lives and they way we think.

I will re-enlist because we have the spirit to fight against the British. Dr. Waldo writes”Yet they still show a spirit of Alacrity ( cheerful willingness) and Contentment not to be expected from so young troops.”(Waldo 151)This reason is causing me to re-enlist because if you have the spirit, you might work harder to accomplish a goal.Dr. Waldo was a doctor at valley forge. He soon got sick.

Since a young age, I have had an overwhelming love for my country. America was an underdog in the beginning and has grown to be a world power. Unfortunately, many people defer from the love I have and take what this country offers us for granted. Compared to many other countries, the United States offers its citizens many rights, protection, and comfort. When another country chooses to infringe on our rights and tries to destroy us, I feel the overwhelming need to defend America and all she stands for. Enrolling in the Army ROTC Program gives me the opportunity to serve my country and defend what I love. Many Americans would most likely disagree with what I am choosing to do. But hopefully, my services, whether it takes my life or not, can

education and contract diversity. Because of the wide gap in educational requirements between each purpose the military fulfills, mission completion has necessitated the recruiting of both active duty military members, and specialized civilian employees and contractors. The increasing advanced requirements for cyberspace defense and weapon research cannot be adequately met through an organizational model dependant on the recruiting of enlisted members, who usually have an educational level no higher than high school, and officer members, who often have not obtained an educational level higher than a baccalaureate prior to service entry. The Air force needs traditional military members to maintain proficiency and command during standard warfare operations. It needs highly technical positions, which the government can only hope to effectively obtain from civilians, who naturally expect better pay and treatment

Education is not the only benefit that comes from service in the military. When many people first join, they are assigned MOSs. MOSs are jobs assigned to someone when they first join (Nance). Each MOS is specific and is usually related to the field an individual is interested in. He is sent to training immediately after basic training. Each branch of the military has different jobs, depending on what is available. Jobs can range from being a dentist to becoming a lawyer, but each has its own school for

Military academies also have some upsides. They can produce some high level officers but that isn’t a guarantee. Providing education for people in the military is a good service. I would not like being

US soldiers make approximately $1,531.50 dollars per month, while NFL football players can make over 1.9 million dollars yearly. In my opinion, this is unacceptable. While US troops are risking their lives, protecting our country so that we can live everyday without worrying about enemy soldiers or even terrorists entering our country and killing innocent civilians. Football players get to play their favorite sport, and watch the money come rolling in. Football players get sponsors, and don't even need to actually play a game to make money, they simply wait for it. Soldiers should be paid more than these football players, besides, without our soldiers, we couldn’t have football, or any other sport infact, because of all the attacks on our country.

According to the fiscal year 2002 military pay scale the average enlisted service member with two years of service in the military is paid $1,385.40 per month (www.DFAS.mil). Broken down this figure is equal to roughly $8.65 per hour. With the rate of taxes being higher on single personnel and the fact that some service members have families, $8.65 is far below the priceless

There are also many ways to move up ranks in a particular job. One way a soldier can advance is going to Officer Candidate School. Officer Candidate School trains men and women to have the necessary skills to advance and become an army second lieutenant. The Green to Gold program is also an available option for advancement. This program can help soldiers get a degree and become officers. Lastly, a warrant officer can go to Warrant Officer Candidate school to go to a higher rank in the army for more money. The army has many ways to advance, but this is very hard to do so be ready for a struggle. School might even be necessary for advancement, but it can really help an officer's

This training will also prepare the adult for employment in the civilian world. It can also place them well on their way to a college degree in a field related to what their job in the military is/was. If the individual desires to make a career change, one can also use many of those credits as elective credits. No matter what the situation, the military training and college credits will not go to waste!
