Nowadays, many junior high and high schools in the United States require their students to do volunteer, and community service to be graduated. Volunteering and community service also help students to learn more about social life; it also helps students learn to be responsible for their action. Most people believe the idea that it would promote a good citizen and cultivates compassion by that it will help young generations build an excellent ethnic, and make this world has become better. The world is developing day by day; technology has penetrated to everyone, especially to the younger generation nowadays. Young generation paying their attention to technology, and they do not care about others. Some parents were taking this problem seriously; they gave their kids many ways to stay away from technology by making them do some activities. Most of the parents send their kids to do volunteer and community services. They believe that their kids would be a good person, to understand others, and build a better community in this world. Understanding sounds easy, but it is hard to do. Nobody could see the homeless man in a street, but never understand what happened made him homeless. As the volunteer, and doing community service, students will start to learn about social life, instead of staying home and playing video games. Students could gain more knowledge about life skills, and social life. They could learn how not to be selfish, and sympathy for others. In my family, my cousin
Students would learn a lot of new things from the people they are helping. Community service could show the students that they are worth something. They can see how much they can really do. Helping someone else could also help you and make you feel good about yourself. Even though community service is good, students should have a choice to do volunteer work. It should not be required, maybe it should be for extra credit. Students could just go do it in there own time, maybe in the summer time or on school breaks if its something they like to
A young person should strive to support their local community for various reasons. Engaging in community service provides people with the opportunity to become active members of their community and has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service and volunteerism enables one to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most.
Encouraging students to engage in meaningful, sustained community service and get involved in causes that speak to
There is a lot of time and dedication that goes into community service. Some students may say that it is a waste of time. Community service is very time-consuming. There are better things that can be done. Students will find other alternatives that will get them out of doing community service. The students will either join a club or play a sport. They would do anything to get them out of doing community service. Some students are not as social as others. They would rather be in their room alone than be out with others. Some students are not as social as others. Some students find joy in helping others. It warms their heart to help out where and when it is needed. Community service should not be required because it is taking away from their education, and adding more stress than they already
Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the schools are getting are “Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do!” What people are forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves (Volunteering).
In high school, students are motivated to make an effort mile to do service learning, but it those who truly go above and beyond to serve their community and complete service learning that can fully comprehend the influence in can have on many aspects of life.
The last reason why they shouldn’t do community service is because some students will think there volunteer work will be helpless because they feel forced to do it. Some teens don’t like feeling this way they rather want to do it because they want to and not having to feel the need to do it. For example also in the same article it says, “These students should be proud that they can help selflessly out intrinsic motivation, instead of feeling forced to put their hours of hard work toward ssl requirement.” Teens need to feel helpful instead of obligated to help their
Volunteering helps high school students mature by showing them the hard work that others put into the community. No one can truly understand how much work is put into something until that person is the one doing the work. For example, picking up trash helps the community stay clean and keeps the animals safe from garbage. No matter how big or small the job may seem, it always helps somebody.
This past October 22, the United States celebrated National Make a Difference Day. As a tribute to this holiday, the Social Studies I students took part in various community service projects. This is extremely beneficial to students because it teaches them numerous life skills while doing something courteous for the community. It has even been found that volunteering can boost self-esteem and increase overall happiness. Not only can volunteering create an exceptional feeling mentally, but it can also make you more accepting of others by exposing you to many diverse cultures, races, social classes, and backgrounds, as well as helping you become more empathetic towards these life experiences.
High-school involvement with community service almost always motivated by external factors, such as the influence of family and friends or a school requirement. Participants, even when it was required, enjoyed community service because it made them feel good about themselves and enabled them to spend time with their friends and family. ( Jones Hill 588) Therefore volunteering is a great way to meet new people, especially if you are new to an area. It strengthens your ties to the community and broadens your support network, exposing you to people with the same interests, neighborhood resources, and fun activities. While some people are naturally outgoing, others are shy and have a hard time meeting new people. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to practice, develop, and strengthen your social skills, since you are meeting regularly with a group of people with common interests. As well people with disabilities or health issues can still gain greatly from volunteering activities. People think community service is hard and unimportant. Although sometimes community service is hard work, it can be fun, and you can become creative with these activities. Theres many things kids can learn from doing community service and if it was required nobody would know the difference. Kids need to know respect and discipline and if community service was
Back in the 1970s, Kenneth Keniston and Mark Gerzon suggested in their paper “Human and social benefits” that “The critical component of education attempts to expose students to multiple and conflicting perspectives on themselves and their society in order to test and challenge their previously unexamined assumptions. It strives to create conditions which stimulate students’ intellectual, moral, and emotional growth, so that they may ground their skills in a more mature, humane framework of values.” (citation) This idea suggests that the goal of education is not to create robots who can regurgitate facts, but human beings who have rooted the learned facts in real life experiences and cemented them in personal-character growth. Community service can help university students achieve this goal in a number of ways. First of all, it does this by sharpening or uncovering leadership abilities by creating situations that require decision making and problem solving. While volunteering, a person is often presented with problems that require them to make executive decisions and learn to make decisions with the team’s overall goal in mind. Leadership is an important skill to have and practicing in the context of volunteering will build a student’s confidence in their leadership ability before they have to apply it in his or her future career. Secondly, community service teaches students how to be part of a team by showing them how to be an effective part of a whole. It’s a real life situation where students can learn how important it is for every person working on a task to fulfill their role in a complete and timely way. This skill can also be learned in a job setting but learning it as a volunteer is less risky because students don’t risk being fired for
This will lead to students partaking in community service in their free time which is always a major positive and something everyone should be involved in. Scott Seider, Samantha Rabinowicz, and Susan Gillmor talk about service-learning in “Differential Outcomes for American College Students Engaged in Community Service-Learning Involving Youth and Adults”. The authors also state “Students achieve a greater awareness of social issues and a deeper commitment to community involvement” (Seider, Rabinowicz, & Gilmore). The authors of the article also use Kendrick, Markus, Howard, and King as references for the quote. By helping the community, a person has a deeper relationship and a better understanding of it.
Working to improve the lives of others is often noted as one of the most remarkable ways to improve one’s own life. It is important to understand that service learning is a not a new method of education, although it has grown and developed quite a bit over the years. The benefits of service learning are countless. It is an undeniably constructive effort for people of all ages to participate in. Exposing these types of activities on youth is particularly helpful to those individuals in myriad ways. Discovering the ability to improve something else while also benefitting yourself and untold amounts of other people can change a person’s entire perspective on life. Implementing this type of learning into more schools would allow these types of
“Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.” Dorothy Height. I have constantly viewed myself as an exceptionally encouraging understudy. I have worked greatly hard and gotten good grades . Community service is dedication and volunteering shows sympathy and comprehension. One of my most loved things about Community Service benefit is that there are openings and decisions right in my exceptionally neighborhood. I can volunteer for something you truly accept and have an enthusiasm for, and can volunteer to such an extent as i have time for. Taking part in Community Service gives me the chance to end up as a good citizen individual of the society and has an enduring, positive effect on society in general .Since I always thought that participating in the community it gives me the chance to realize that you are enhancing somebody's life and improving your surroundings and society, also you get the chance to see the immediate effect of your work.
It connects students to their community like never before and teaches them time-management skills. Required community service teaches the importance of kindness and helps students prepare for their future career. Consequently, community service in high schools should be mandatory. In order to help our community, you could participate in community service. But it is recommended to begin small, then work your way up to complicated projects as you gain more experience. You can even do something as simple as setting up a food drive or donating books to help others. When you are comfortable with planning and running community service, you can even join a Boy or Girl Scout troop. One can make a positive difference in this world by participating in community service. The results will be limitless! Community service leads to a happier and healthier neighborhood. Mandatory community service will benefit many people in our local neighborhood and give the opportunity to students to help
