“Opponents have been attacking and defining Clinton for a quarter-century, but nobody has really gone to work demonizing Sanders” (Milbank). It is true that Clinton has been in the limelight for a long time, so many of her mistakes have already been aired publicly while Sanders has yet to be attacked in the same way. However, this also means that many people already have a set opinion about Clinton and are unlikely to change their mind anytime soon, so this isn’t necessarily positive for her. Any attacks on Sanders would have less time to ruminate with a person since he has not been in the news nearly as long as Clinton. He still has the ability to give some people a first impression. The article also refers to his label as a democratic-socialist making him unelectable, saying, “they’ll portray Sanders as one who wants the government to own and
Bernie Sanders once said “Finally, let [us] understand that when we stand together, we will always win. When men and women stand together for justice, we win. When black, white and Hispanic people stand together for justice, we win.” Bernie Sanders started as a young activist fighting to desegregate and end the Vietnam war, As he got older he dwelled into politics and became a self identified socialist; he competed against corporate backing and a corrupt political system yet remained true to his beliefs of Universal Health Care System, affordable education, better social security and welfare, the right for a woman to choose what she wants for her body, cares for the environment, but most importantly, Bernie Sanders believes in America.
"There's a smidgen of foot-dragging now, it appears, on their side," he said. "It might be that, you know, there might be some backing down or, you know, an unwillingness to remain in front of an audience and truly wrangle with Bernie Sanders since they know Bernie Sanders is going to do entirely well in that civil argument, honestly." Weaver ascribed the slowed down correspondence to confuse in the extremely rich person's battle. "What's more, there might be distinctive perspectives in their battle about whether this ought to go ahead or not, but rather we would trust that Donald Trump would keep to his pledge, that it wasn't simply rave or trickery, that he, truth be told, truly needs to have this civil argument," he included. Sanders is set up to talk about anyplace and whenever in California, Weaver said, including that the congressperson and voters, as well, might want to see the proposed face off regarding push ahead. "I think, honestly, you'd get 35, 40, 45 million individuals watching this," he
Despite this change in demeanor, Trump counters the allegations against him with scathing attacks. While referring to the Lewinsky scandal he says that “I think its disgraceful and I think that she [Clinton] should be ashamed of herself.” Trump contends that Clinton is a dishonest criminal. He suggests that he will appoint a special prosecutor to investigate missing emails and other mishandled documents. Trump addresses Bernie Sanders on multiple occasions suggesting that the Democratic primary was rigged and exclaiming that “I was so surprised to see him [Sanders] sign on with the devil [Clinton].” He succeeds in diverting from the issues regarding his own character and moves to control much of the debate. Rather than apologizing, Trump moves to control the
One metapor used to describe contemporary elections is “choosing the lesser of two evils”, however, unlike other elections, this year's is one of the most controversial and dividing elections in recent years. This year there is a chance for change, and currently there are four main head runners for the presidential nomination; out of these candidates only one shines as someone who will really change the US for the better, Bernie Sanders. He plans to rejuvenate the economy, and support the middle and lower class. Bernie also is easily one of the only candidates that support civil rights that help the people, not some values that would increase voter polls. When it comes to international affairs Bernie respects other countries and understands
On May 26th, 2015, Bernie Sanders announced his candidacy for the presidency. Bernie stands for the underdog, the beaten down, and the abused. Bernie Sanders has been the Junior Senator from Vermont since 2007. He is an Independent that caucuses with the Democrats. In his run for presidency, Bernie asked questions that others would not. He spoke on issues other candidates would not tackle. He has not just expanded upon the Democratic agenda, he wrote an entirely new agenda. He wrote an agenda for the people. Bernie Sanders mainly resonated with a young demographic of voters which is probably due to the fact that most people my age do not want to live in an austere society. My generation will have to deal with the shortsightedness of the earlier
self-described Democratic socialist, Sanders has spent his years fighting for the labor movement and reversing economic inequality. However, given his socialist views and liberal policies, the potential stock market backlash, the dismantling of large
In the Spring of 2015, when Bernie Sanders threw his hat in the race to become the Democratic Nominee, many people hadn’t even heard his name. Honestly, I hadn’t either until a trusted friend mentioned that she liked what he had to say. It didn’t take long before I discovered that Bernie Sanders had been there fighting for the things I believe in all along.
As an American being able to elect and be a part of the selecting in the upcoming presidential election is an important, not only for oneself but for the whole nation. A Democratic Party runner, a senator from Vermont, named Bernie Sanders is a known one. In my opinion, I believe Bernie Sanders is an important well qualified candidate in the millennial generation. It’s also important that the citizen of the United States should know. Bernie is a lifelong advocate of the middle working class.
The upcoming presidential election has been highly controversial with many promising candidates, but one has stood out the most, Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders is easily described as what you see is what you get. He has fought for the same rights in the 1980s that he is fighting for now while most seem like common sense they haven’t been changed for a significant amount of time. Supporting Bernie Sanders for president in the 2016 election shows a forward looking approach in our nation because he supports income and wealth equality, eliminating the cost of secondary education, and supports a limited foreign policy; however, he is at a disadvantage due to his old age.
The 2016 election was a time for many to feel distressed and anxious for the future of America. Having a criminal to the left and a Bigot to right, left many wanting, or have already drank their lives away to forget how such madness could even take place in the “Greatest Country in the World”. Many topics were brought up for the soon to be leader of the United States; however, one topic was a topic that neither knew as much as the one and only Bernie Sanders.
Bernie sanders ran as a democrat during the twenty sixteen presidential elections and his main competitor was Hillary Clinton, wife of a former president Bill Clinton. The millennials back Bernie sanders over hillary for a few reasons, one of the main reasons being hillary’s ties to giant companies who donate to her. Greg Sargent writes “truly transformative change actually is possible, if we break the power of big money’s grip on our political system — a problem, Sanders suggested, that is exemplified by her candidacy.”(1) Hillary clinton has has so many giant institutions and businesses donate to her, there is no way she can not be biased toward at least one of them. Bernie sanders on the other hand has refused many donations so as to stay neutral and unbiased. In fact he has fought to more tightly regulate campaign and prevent government officials from becoming biased or owing favors. Another big difference between Bernie sanders and Hillary Clinton is the rate at which they want to see change. Greg Sargent writes “Sanders believes that there is majority support in America for the goals of the “revolution” he is promising, and that the power of that majority can be unleashed if the power of the oligarchy is broken, and if the power of the grassroots is sufficiently harnessed” (1) Bernie sanders wants change now, just like millennials. Bernie
The results of the primary in Ohio and Florida were viewed as a turning point in the race as over half of the delegates would have been assigned by this point. They both had different views on how they viewed their campaigns at the midway point though. At this point, Sanders’ only option is to assure victories in June primaries to pick up more delegates than Clinton, because her camp understands that Sanders had not done much to narrow the gap. While Sanders’ advisers are optimistic in their efforts in the future caucuses and primes, they are very knowledgeable about how they are trailing in the delegate count. In the South this is where Clinton had the majority of her success due to the large demographic of blacks and Hispanics, and this lead the Sanders camp to believe that Clinton’s best states were behind her. His plan in Ohio was to draw out a large number of college students because they were critical to his victory in the Michigan primary as well as the progressive voters and working-class democrats. Understandably, the results of the Ohio election were disappointing to the Sanders camp as they spent about $3 million in advertising compared to just over $2.5 million by the Clinton campaign. For the remainder of the race, Clinton will face a tough challenge from Bernie Sanders because he appeals to states who were hit hard
Bernie Sanders is a force to reckon with during the 2016 elections. During the announcement that he was running for president, Sanders detailed why he was running for president. He is a career politician for many years, and the 2016 elections are regarded as a homecoming for him. He is going back to the role that he had adopted during his early years in politics. Sanders has a very tough competitor, Hillary Clinton. She has a larger donor network, lengthy CV and she is quite popular. However, the qualities inherent in Clinton are some of the things that have influenced Sanders to run for the presidency (Hunt, 2016). These include Wall Street individuals, ruling class, and laws who have been considered as exploitative and supported Clinton.
At least four people at a Bernie Sanders rally in Oakland rushed the stage Monday evening, spurring Secret Service agents to jump onto the raised platform and protect him.
