In August 1963, Sanders travelled to Washington, D.C. to take part in the March on Washington and heard Martin Luther King Juniors historic “I Have a Dream” speech firsthand. In 1981, He gained his first political victory by becoming Mayor of Burlington, Vermont. Since that time, Bernie has attempted to wrestle government control away from corporate interests and back to the working class, where it belongs.
