A thirteen year old girl named Bethany Hamilton was an up and coming surfing champion. On Halloween of 2003, all of that could have changed. That day, Bethany was surfing with her best friend, Alana, Alana’s brother, Byron, and Alana’s father, Holt. Bethany was only thirteen when it happened; it was just a normal October morning at the beach, until tragedy struck. A fifteen-foot long tiger shark tore Bethany’s arm off, she was later brought to the local hospital. Bethany lost half of her blood, but she survived. But, there was a long road of recovery for Bethany, but no matter what happened she wanted to get back to the water. Per reporter Brianna states there was a physical altercation last night (03/14/16) between her and the father. He left marks on her arms and back. It is unclear what caused the altercation, but the child is very upset and afraid to go home. Brianna reports he has been emotionally abusive in the past, but this is the first time he has become physically abusive. She reports he was physically abusive towards an older brother in the past. Brianna reports DHS was involved with her family 8-10 years ago. Brianna continued to note, her father choked her to the point she almost passed out.

The third person that I had interview was Renee Hubeny. I conducted this interview over the phone with her on Thursday the twenty-third at twelve thirty. Renee and Elizabeth Little (the person I talk about next) were both recommend to me by Dr. Golden; they were both in her class that she taught at Baldwin Wallace. Renee went to community college for nursing, but she changed her mind and went into the education field. This upcoming school year Renee will be working with the younger child at Campus International, she was so excited to tell me all about it and how nice her class room was. Her advice to me was to be prepare for anything and to seek out professors that I can benefit later on my path to success.
Me and my good friends Josh and Daniel volunteered at Salvation Army. Salvation Army is a place that people who don't have houses and can’t afford food or other essentials. They provide homes for homeless people and food for people who have a home but cannot afford food because of house taxes. They also have apartments connected to the food building. We did lots of different things at Salvation Army like we prepared and served meals, washed dishes, mopped the dining room and also cleaned up food. And all the other things we did are on the paper. We actually did everything on the list! The experience there was amazing knowing that I am making a difference in people's lives by serving food and helping clean up around the place, and we also got an opportunity to talk the some of the people around the
