Despite the attack, Bethany Hamilton is resilient because, she doesn’t look at herself as an amputee like other people, also because she never gave up, she wanted to surf, and because she is now an elite surfer. One day she was laying there mesmerizing, and all of a sudden the flashing of her watch or something attracted the 15ft tiger shark. When the shark seen the flashing, it then came up from the depth of the sea and bit her arm off, and left her surf board with the imprint of the sharks bite. While the shark was attacking she called out for help and her dad showed up tied her up and pulled her to the beach to safety. There she and her dad waited to the ambulance got there. Despite the devastating attack, Bethany Hamilton showed great resilience in achieving her dream for surfing.
A thirteen year old girl named Bethany Hamilton was an up and coming surfing champion. On Halloween of 2003, all of that could have changed. That day, Bethany was surfing with her best friend, Alana, Alana’s brother, Byron, and Alana’s father, Holt. While Bethany was patiently waiting for the perfect wave, she was attacked by a fifteen foot tiger shark. The shark, attracted to her watch, came up from under her board and bit off her arm. Due to the fast reaction of her best friend’s father, Bethany survived the attack.
