One day she was laying there mesmerizing, and all of a sudden the flashing of her watch or something attracted the 15ft tiger shark. When the shark seen the flashing, it then came up from the depth of the sea and bit her arm off, and left her surf board with the imprint of the sharks bite. While the shark was attacking she called out for help and her dad showed up tied her up and pulled her to the beach to safety. There she and her dad waited to the ambulance got there. Despite the devastating attack, Bethany Hamilton showed great resilience in achieving her dream for surfing.

A thirteen year old girl named Bethany Hamilton was an up and coming surfing champion. On Halloween of 2003, all of that could have changed. That day, Bethany was surfing with her best friend, Alana, Alana’s brother, Byron, and Alana’s father, Holt. While Bethany was patiently waiting for the perfect wave, she was attacked by a fifteen foot tiger shark. The shark, attracted to her watch, came up from under her board and bit off her arm. Due to the fast reaction of her best friend’s father, Bethany survived the attack. But, because of her strength to overcome adversity, her courage, and her determination, Bethany Hamilton is the perfect example of resilience.

While surfing Bethany got attacked by a tiger shark! The sharks bite off her arm. Alana’s dad Holt took control while Bethany was in a state of daze, but Bethany stayed calm. Bethany resilience will later take her far after becoming an amputee.

When going through life, everyone needs a person that will be there with them every step of the way. A person to lean on to overcome the hard times and someone to rejoice with when life is at its highest moments. Thankfully for me, that particular person came to be a minute before I came into this world. My twin sister Kayla Skye Horton is truly my other half in life for an endless amount of reasons. However, due to the fact of time being a determinant in every aspect of life, there are qualities that my Kayla possesses that outshine the others.

On , October 31, 2003, Bethany went out for a morning surf with her best friend and their family. While lying on her surfboard, with her arms dangling in the water, a 14 foot tiger shark attacked her left arm. The attack severed her arm just below the shoulder. Most people couldn’t imagine completing their daily routine as an amputee however, Bethany Hamilton didn’t have a choice. One word to describe Bethany would be resilient. Bethany Hamilton’s resilience made her into the elite surfer she is today. Bethany possessed composure that she used when she was attacked, determination to recover her strength, and courage to get back into the excruciating waters of which she last had her arm

Bethany Hamilton is a brave surfer who survived a shark attack and faced her fears to continue doing what she loves. She was born in Kauai in 1990 and started surfing when she was 4 years old. At the age of 8, she got a gold medal in her first competition and since then she would have the first place in every championship she took part of. She was so talented that she could do amazing tricks that surfers her age couldn’t. Therefore, she had Rip Curl as a sponsor. However, in 2003 she was laying on her surfboard with her left arm underwater and a tiger shark bit it. Luckily, she was accompanied by her friends, so they helped her to get to the beach. Someone who has achieved great success and influence that depicts the seven habits very well is Bethany Hamilton. Hamilton survived a horrific shark attack while surfing at the age of thirteen. She lost her entire left arm and seventy percent of her blood. It is a true miracle that Bethany lived, and she owes it all to her faith in Christ. Before the incident, Bethany was on her way to becoming an elite professional surfer. Most people believed that Bethany’s career was at it’s end after losing her arm, and experiencing the trauma of the attack, but Bethany knew that one day she would return to surfing. A month after the attack, Bethany was back in the water, catching waves. Of course, to make her comeback Hamilton had to have serious dedication, focus and training. She stayed committed, and today sits among the top 50 professional surfers in the world. Bethany won the ESPY award for “Best Comeback Athlete” and was presented with a special courage award at the Teen Choice Awards. Today Bethany uses her story and fame to travel worldwide and preach about the importance of faith and perseverance, in addition to making visits to other amputee patients around the world.
