Movies about love, romance, action, betrayal always seems to put a audience into a craze. “Hamlet” written by William Shakespeare is known for its strong storytelling, great scenes, and overall will be remembered as a classic. But if I told you Hamlet was one of the movies that inspired The Lion King would you believe me? Both stories involve the hardships and guilt of losing a parent, forbidden love, and the fight to right the wrongs laid by evil. The presence of love plays a heavy role in both stories. In Hamlet it gives a sense of character development, but with a hint of betrayal. Within the story Hamlet and Ophelia are in a kind of forbidden love. In each of his plays the act of revenge is always included. Some in the slightest and others in a larger light. Hamlet is no exception. The act of revenge that takes place within the play is Hamlet's overall goal to avenge his father and bring down Claudius. Over hearing the story of his father’s death from the ghost of his father, Hamlet began to shift his focus on ways to scare Claudius anyway he can, slowly wearing him down to a point of breaking and confession. This is shown by the actions Hamlet begins to take. From the activity of acting mad, to the setting up of a play depicting his father's death in front of the man who killed him. This leading Claudius to an actual confession the series of sins he has done in an attempt to be saved by god. Little to know Hamlet heard this confession. With the confirmed knowledge of his actions, Hamlet starts his acts of revenge. Same ideas go into The Lion King. After being banished from the pride lands, Simba runs into Nala who tells him that Scar has overtaken the land and is destroying it. After time and a talk with his father, (resemblance of the scene in Hamlet where he speaks with his father’s ghost) Simba heads back to the Pride Land to get revenge for his father and save his Kingdom.
