The Australian Government’s Better Access to Psychiatrists, Psychologists and General Practitioners through the Medicare Benefits Schedule (Better Access) initiative is a health promotion program that an older person may benefit from in addressing this area of development. The Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA, 2012) advises that the central goal of this national program is to enable access to evidence-based treatment to promote health outcomes for individuals with clinically indicated mental disorder. For these individuals, access to care is enabled by subsidising the financial cost of up to ten individual and ten group allied mental health services each calendar year (DoHA, 2012). Psychological stress of an extent that considerably interferes with a person’s cognitive, emotional or social …show more content…
The Better Access initiative may be well suited to her case given this insight, as well as her established interest in taking a structured approach to self-managing health. This interest is demonstrated by her recent enrolment in an 8-week stress management course at Bradfield Park, alongside previous history of attendance at this facility’s carer support services. Accessing specialised, individual psychological therapies through the Better Access initiative may complement Molly’s involvement in these group services by allowing prioritisation of her individual needs and goals. With Molly’s interest in deepening her mindfulness meditation practice to manage the racing thoughts that impede her sleep, referral to a clinician specially trained in this area may be particularly valuable. The development area of stress-induced sleep disturbance could hence be targeted effectively through this initiative. Such personalised and specialised support may not be possible within the broader purposes commonly characteristic of therapies delivered within group settings
Karikari-Martin (2010), states that the definitions of healthcare access are directly related to the concerns of the system. She continues saying that these definitions pertain most prominently to insurance, number of available providers and the efficiency of healthcare services (Karikari-Martin, 2010). Prior to enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) in 2010, the United States population was held hostage by an insurance industry that was poor secondary to insufficient government controls. The insurance companies made good insurance policies more difficult to attain with premiums that were constantly increasing, denials of insurance for those with pre-existing conditions or premiums so high they couldn’t afford it.
Fourth, both health care organization are anticipated that during our organizational restructuring on the Care Select Health System would most likely affect job satisfaction levels and potentially compromise the quality of services provided, yet evidence on the impact of hospital mergers on staff satisfaction is surprisingly scarce. Therefore, Care Select Health System staff might perceive mergers as a breach of the psychological contract (implicit commitments and expectations between employers and employees) when they feel they are not listened to, when they have to ‘suffer’ from delays in service development and job uncertainties. For instance, cultures of merging organizations might also clash when they have opposing attitudes towards
Based on what we have learned thus far with regard to ethics, regulations, and federal mandates, what are the challenges faced by healthcare executives and direct care providers such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and healthcare organizations in general.

Every person’s experience with trauma is unique and requires a care plan that is individualized to address the client’s specific needs throughout the recovery process. When preparing a care plan for 9-year-old Daria, it is important that a professional identify the type of trauma or violence experienced. Daria is the only child of Sam and Jenny, and was sexually assaulted by her father, Sam, in 2015. Her mother was charged with failure to protect Daria, resulting in both parents moving through the criminal justice system. Daria is currently in DCF custody, was placed in a foster home with 3 other children and does not go to her school or see her friends anymore. She has refused to talk about the abuse and occasionally struggles with episodes of lashing out and/or disinterest in activities, conversation, or eating. I believe Daria has experienced trauma from the sexual assault, displacement from her mother and friends, and moving through the social welfare system. Identifying the potential traumas Daria has experienced will assist in creating a comprehensive, multifaceted care plan.
Although Hanratty et al, 2012 showed some elderly people that could not travel to their appointment because relatives or carers were not allowed to accompany them in ambulances, the data analysis revealed that just 1 respondent agreed with it. However, other issues have been identified, as elderly patients not having anybody to accompany them or not having transport.
When thinking about a public health issue that interests me I referred to healthy people 20/20. One that stuck out to me was “sleep health” and that is because it is something that effects everyone including me, my family and friends. Many people struggle to get the sleep they need and this effects their mental and physical health. Throughout my life there have been a few times where I had troubles getting and staying a sleep. These were always in times of stress, but I used to think I had insomnia, and that I couldn’t sleep because of my disease, not because of my stress. According to Trends in the prevalence of short sleepers in the USA, sleep disturbances have gone up significantly over
Access to care works because people will have adequate resources to doctors and pharmacies. Having access to a doctor will increase quality of a person life or preserve it. Have medical facilities in the community generate money for that community which can provide more health programs to the
Dr. Robert Master, the founder of Commonwealth Care Alliance (CAA), had created the company with the vision to ‘bring high-quality and personalized care to people with complex medical and behavioral needs, resulting in improved health and better self-management of chronic illness, thereby reducing hospitalizations and institutionalizations.' Therefore, the main objective was to provide care outside the walls of hospitals and institutions to make it easier for the chronically ill and disabled to receive the attention they
Stress can deteriorate the mental and physical state of a person. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7). What is Stress?
Bridging Access to Care (BAC) formally known as Brooklyn Aids Task Force (BATF) was created twenty seven years ago, to help individuals and their families who are infected and affected with HIV/AIDS (Bridging Access to Care). This organization is non-profit, and is located in the borough of Brooklyn county of King, and state of New York, with three sub agencies of staff working together helping clients’ access services, throughout the different departments, by referring in house for service delivery to clients (Bridging Access to Care). Additionally, BAC uses outside referral resources and other health facilities to provide treatment and services for clients depending on the level of care needed, and the agency has established linkage agreement
There are many types of mental illnesses that people are vulnerable to such as stress. Stress is a type of mental illness that can affect a person both physiologically and psychologically. It is the body’s natural reaction when a person feels pressured. It is not necessarily bad, in fact, it can sometimes help people. For example, it can provide them with strength if they are being attacked or robbed. This is caused by the neural system pumping hormones into the bloodstream (1). If people are constantly under pressure, they could suffer from stress overload which can harm the body in many ways (2). There are many symptoms for stress overload that are all classified into two types. The first type is psychological symptoms. Some of them are anxiety,
The DSM-IV-TR (2000) states that insomnia generally affects women and older people; older people and men have trouble staying asleep, and younger people normally have trouble achieving sleep. Insomnia usually begins from a stress-triggering element. Symptoms causes by the element may get worse and lead to insomnia (DSM-IV-TR, 2000). Studies have conveyed two main concepts related to insomnia: “physiological, emotional and cognitive activation” and how intense stress affects the person who goes through times of hardship. If insomnia continues without prevention, it may cause other disorders such as depression (Alexandru, B. V., Róbert, B., Viorel, L., Vasile, B. 2009, p. 68).
