For many years I had very high standards and respect for the Better Business Bureau. When many people used the words Better Business Bureau it was a safe guard for many consumer interest and helped resolve their grievances against erring companies. When the adult reader looks at Better Business Bureau logo it states “ Start With Trust”. And it is the word trust that stays in many consumers mind. I really think that Better Business Bureau sometimes caters to the paying customers only. For example, if I have a company X I pay a membership fee to the BBB to be on their list and keep up my rating. Which means if someone like yourself goes to the BBB website and see how I handle my complaints and keep up my rating; it tells the customer
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Special Counsel Integrity Act. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.
The Better Business Bureau provides with consumers and businesses with a dispute resolution process that is mediated by their organization. According to BBB.org (2016), there are several different procedures and rules set into place to assist with disputes which varies by region. Consumers are instructed to contact their local BBB for further directions that are offered in their area. During mediation, the BBB provides a professional mediator that comes to mutual solution for both parties. During the informal dispute resolution, a professional hearing officer makes a non-binding decision after listening to both sides before coming to a conclusion (“Dispute Resolution, 2016). During conditionally-binding arbitration, a professional arbitrator
I believe that Thomas Jefferson moved us closer to the nation we set out to be with the Embargo Act because it helped us progress towards providing for the common defense. During this time France and Britain were at war but Jefferson wanted to stay neutral with them and continue trade, but when Britain passed the Order Of Council—which states that all ships trading with France had to first pull up in the British port, pay a duty, and get a license—Napoleon Bonaparte, the emperor of France was angered by this and decided to retaliate and pass the Milan Decree which stated that any ship that stopped in compliance with the Order Of Council would be treated as a British ship and subjected to seizure. Jefferson then passed the Embargo Act which stopped Americans from trading with foreign countries until it was safe. As a result, our ships weren’t in danger of being taken by the
The systems that have been put in place by the Better Business Bureau to protect businesses and consumers are continually being updated as it should with any organization. The Better Business Bureau has implemented change as it relates to the point system of accreditation (Ferrell, Fraedrich & Ferrell, 2015). This change has allowed the organization to be grade each organization in a more uniform fashion. It is important for organizations to remain unbiased if their mission is service the public. Being fair and unbiased will always hold creditability versus not being fair and biased.
Creating an adequate monitoring system not only protects the best interest of an organization but the consumer also. Furthermore, without these structured protections for the business and consumers, unethical behavior tends to flourish throughout an organization in several different forms. In the case of the Better Business Bureau, it appears that the proper protections were not in place to protect consumers or the organization should have updated its mission statement to account for the many consumer changes since the use of the internet globalized businesses. Furthermore, the leaders of BBB should have worked harder to ensure that employees and companies were punished for allowing his or her unethical behavior to tarnish the organization’s image.
A little under two years ago, one day after basketball practice, I received a call from an unknown number. It was a 512 area code, and I was curious to see who it was. I answered the phone– it was the regional president at the time, Barrett Dover, inviting me to join BBYO Lonestar Region. Even though I didn’t know Barrett that well, or know much about BBYO at all, this call was what led me to join. This personal call went a long way; for I would not be here today if it weren’t for Barrett and the 92 years of Alephs before me who have invited others to join BBYO.

Businesses of today, are under no obligation or commitment to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation, which may cause problems for the business in the future. To be accepted or accredited by the Better Business Bureau, a business must take the time to apply for accreditation and it is at this point that business meets accreditation standards. This will include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve many of the customer’s complaints. Better Business Bureau must pay a fee for accreditation review/ monitoring and also for the support of BBB services to the general public. In the years following the brutal Civil War, the United States saw the rise of economic powers that have never been seen before. These economic powers became known as Big Business. The government’s economic approach of the time was a very hands off technique. This hands off technique was called laissez faire and the government believed giving businesses freedom would cause a lot of companies to grow and prosper. It was believed at the time that pure freedom for businesses would create a substantial amount of competition throughout the business world and prices would be made competitive, which means less expensive for the everyday American consumer. Sadly, the U.S. government was tremendously outsmarted by savvy entrepreneurs who believed in
The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 is one of the most important legislations passed in the 21st century effecting financial practice and corporate governance. This act was passed on July 30, 2002 thanks to Representative Michael Oxley a republican from Ohio and Senator Paul Sarbanes a democrat from Maryland. They both passed two different bills that pertain to the same problem which had to do with corporation's auditing accountability and financial fraud problems within corporations. One was bill (S. 2673) brought by Senator Sarbanes and the other bill (H. R. 3763) brought by Representative Oxley. Both bills where passed separately one by the house and the other by the
The purpose of antitrust laws is to both promote and protect competition. They aren’t designed to go after big companies simply because they are bigger or more successful than others in their industry. They aren’t anti-market or anti-business. They are intended to be just the opposite, in fact. They are meant to promote successful market economics through the assurance of healthy competition while keeping abuses of the system in check that could overrun the market.
