A world view consists of our basic beliefs; how we view life in general and the assumptions that we make about reality. In its simplest form, a worldview acts as a pair of glasses. For instance, when we wear sunglasses, everything that was initially bright colored immediately loses its brightness. This means that the glasses make us see a shade darker, changing our outlook on things. That is precisely how a worldview operates. It influences how we view and interpret reality and because different people have different worldviews, how one person views and interprets reality might not be the same as another person (Nickel, 2008). What is a worldview? To have a world view means that you have created a personal opinion of life. Those opinions you have created, help you make decisions as well as help you learn how to portray the world around you. As to be expected, one man’s worldview will not be the same as yours but it is always good to share your views with other people to hopefully open their eyes to your perception on certain topics. Finally it’s also good to listen to other people’s views to expand your own personal knowledge on the Christian world view.

Ostrander defines a worldview as “...a framework of ideas, values, and beliefs about the basic makeup of the world” (Ostrander 18). After this definition, he goes on to show the purpose of a worldview, and how everyone has a worldview that shapes the rest of their lives. A worldview explains everything one believes and that is especially important to a Christian.

Everyone has a worldview, whether we know it or not. Worldview is the way a person makes sense of the world, life and reality. For example: I view the glass as half full, but you might view the glass as half empty. We both see the glass but we do not agree on how to view it. Our worldview is formed by our education, family beliefs, the culture we live in, and media we are exposed to. For many of us our surrounding culture influences our worldview and we have never had to think about why we believe what we believe and we wouldn’t be able to defend our beliefs to others.

A “worldview is a set of beliefs or truth claims that form a framework for making sense out of life and the world” (MacCullough, Ed.D., 2012, p. 15). Basically, it is how we view the world. We all have our own perception in the way we view the world. Our worldview is what we believe the answers are in our everyday life and what we believe are the answers to everything we do or are involved in. This includes everything from our values, beliefs, and our actions. It also includes how we view

Throughout this class we have discussed the different worldviews that an individual may have. This class has taught me that a worldview is how an individual understands the world and their place in it. “A worldview consist of what a person believes to be real and true, what a person values, how a person makes decisions, and what forms a person’s desires, longings, and goals” (Fuller, Lecture One). An individual’s worldview is the motivating force behind their every emotion, decision, and action. A worldview is what helps an individual make sense of life and this world. A worldview will provide answers for many different questions in life. A few of the questions that a worldview helps answer are questions of origin, human dilemma, hope, and destiny.

A worldview is easily described as the person’s perception of the world around them and is the framework for decision making. You can think of a worldview like a pair of glasses. When you look out of those glasses what do you see? Dr. Weider in his presentation gave an example; if your glasses are red then everything around you will be red. (Weider & Gotierrez, 2011) This is the same for worldview. Everyone has a worldview if they know it or not. What is a world view? A worldview is an individual’s view on life. It is the philosophy with which we live. It makes us who we are and is shaped by our experiences, culture, and background (Smith, 2015). A worldview is fluid, it changes as we change and discover our identities. It is made up of the questions that humans may ask to determine their wealth to the world or their purpose in life. Our worldview can make us gravitate toward other individuals with similar beliefs. It is a unifying factor in our day to day interactions with people and the world as a whole. It is the way that we determine what is “considered meaningful, what is worth doing, and which causes may require sacrifice”

Worldview is your perspective on events and issues. Developing a perspective takes reflection on what you read, learn, and experience firsthand. One might expect to find influences from parents, siblings, teachers, friends, acquaintances, the clergy, co-workers, etc., in an individual’s worldview. Worldview can also be formed by family’s economic status, level of education, racial or ethnic background, and their expectations. Overall, all these factors are a piece of an individual’s worldview.

A worldview, weather religious or non-religious, has personal insight about reality and meaning, often termed a “life understanding”. We all have worldviews which is our own discernment which develops because we have sought some understanding of our own significance. The overall perspective from which one sees and interprets the world could be collection beliefs about life and the universe held by an individual or group.

A worldview is a term used to describe one’s theories and beliefs about the world. “No human being lives without a worldview, but few ever give thought to what worldviews are, how they come into being, how they change and how they are held.” (Webb, p.1) Upbringing, life experiences, attitudes and morals can all have an effect on a person’s worldview and in turn, will affect how one decides to live their life every day and the choices they make. “All of us at some time ask what is real.” (DeWeese, pg. 34) Christian Worldview answers, with certainty, the questions to origin, identity, meaning/purpose, morality and destiny. Today’s society consists of many worldviews. Most people tend to pull beliefs from different religions, but often stick to one main worldview. A worldview to me is the gathering of beliefs that shape what we do on a daily basis and forms our overall view on life. When I look at my beliefs critically, I am able to see my worldview and see how it compares to different worldviews, but also how it compares mainly to the Christian Worldview.

What is a worldview? How does it influence our daily lives? A worldview is how we see reality. It influences the way we live our lives. It influences the way we interact with each other. A worldview is a belief system of who we are, why we are here, and what our destiny is.

A world view, in my understanding, is a system of beliefs about life that determines behavior and, ultimately, the destiny of every person. The German philosopher Novalis said that "fate and character are different names of the same concept." I think the same can be said about one’s world outlook. It is the world view that creates a certain picture of the world, the prism through which a person looks at this life, communicates with people, builds his future.
