The Biblical metanarrative that is composed of the 5 acts that we discussed prior, also contains major principles and character concepts that should be taken into perspective of how Christians read the Bible, as well as how they live their life.
Creational Design is one of the principles we observe in scripture. This takes into account the simple fact that creation does not merely exist, but it exists for a purpose, and it exists from a maker. This may seem like a simple concept to some, however it carries deep implications. God designing creation does not simply give a reason how life exists, but it also gives us direction in how we ought to treat creation. In Genesis 1:31 we see that God states that God created, and “it was good”.

Vocational ministry can sometimes seem like simply working at a church means that you are living out all the biblical principles immediately, but it is definitely more complex than that. You can go through meetings, planning, discipleship programs, teaching, and still not live out the Gospel and the central cores that are taught in the Bible. That can sound scary, but I find it comforting that living out the principles is not a mindless task, and was never meant to be. Following Jesus is a conscious denying of self, and that taking intention with every step. I foresee the potential to lose sight of God’s Creational Design, in forgetting to view all people as made in God’s image. Many times dealing with people consistently, and especially dealing with people who are especially broken can wear down on your patience and attitude. It could be easy to become fed-up with the same stories, the same-issues, hard-heartedness, stubbornness, and ignorance, but remembering all people are made in God’s image is something that must remain central to continuing to bring God’s healing process here on earth. One particular principle that I know I will struggle with no matter what I am doing vocational will be Cultural Idolatry in the form of doing things myself. I many times default to what I can do on my own, to my own plans, my own ideas, and my own strength. That usually takes the form of God reminding me to rely on him by allowing me to fail myself, and thus gently pointing me back to a heart of surrender towards
scholarship. I feel that chapter four is more important than chapter three because the topic is
The bible is a unique book that describes God, His will, power, and qualities. It divided into two main parts which we call the Old and New Testaments. Even though they both reveal true knowledge about God and have much in common, there are plentiful differences between them like who are God’s people, the laws, and the sacrifices.
One of the most important people in 1603 is the King James 1, who was the first Stuart King of England. He was a determined, supporter of “royal absolutism” (Mathew). He had numerous of issues against Charles 1. He did not have any siblings; he was the only son of Mary (the Queen of Scots). Unfortunately, there was an explosion from his house after James was born. During July 24, 1567 he became the King of Scotland while Mary left him. Therefore, he was known as “an old and experienced king” (Mathew). But he was unfortunate for Stuart King position before it was 1603 (Mathew). The second most important people, was Elizabeth I; she was the Queen of England from 1558-1603 and did not input any power to Renaissance, which they dreamed of. Later
Today, in modern day living, people are talking about either of the two worldviews, and the importance of that chosen worldview. However, one can choose to live by the principles of a secular worldview or a biblical worldview. This study highlights the distinguishable difference between a secular worldview and a biblical worldview, the incorporation of belief and doctrine, and the theories of vocations and the efforts for living righteously.
When we approach “creation” from a Biblical Worldview we must first define what we believe about Scripture. I would consider myself a follower of the theology that was birthed out of the reformation. I believe the Word of God is infallible and inherent, meaning it is one hundred percent true. Paul tells us in his letter to Timothy “all Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16, HCSB). The word inspired brings to life the authority of scripture, it is translated to mean breathed into. So we can paraphrase that verse to say that all scripture has been breathed into by God. The author of Hebrews also tells us “For the word of God is living and effective” (Hebrews 4:12, HCSB), meaning that the Holy Scriptures, the Word of God is alive and is still effective in teaching, and training today. Before we dive into creation, let us recap the above stance on Scripture. The Word of God is alive and has been breathed into by God Himself.
The purpose of this essay is answer the following questions in scope of Genesis chapters one through eleven. How does having a biblical world view affect the way we look at the natural world compared to others who don’t? How does the biblical world view affect our human identity compared to those who do not? How does having a biblical world view affect human relationship? How Does the biblical world view affects civilization?
The Design Argument is an argument that says there is a “God” who is the creator of all things. Within this argument, it is stated that things have to be designed – the main example being used is a machine. Cleanthes compares the universe to a machine. They both have many different parts that all work together, but how? The Design Argument says that “God”, or some deity, designed these different elements and pieces in a way so that they can all work together. For a machine to work, all of the pieces must fit together purposefully. When you think about the creator of a machine, for example an engineer, you would most likely think of some intelligent person who created the pieces to make them all fit and work together. Because the world is similar to a machine, by analogy, it too must be created by something intelligent – but on a much grander scale than us.
Scripture opens with a witness to the act of God in creation. This fact points to us that understanding the world as the creation of the infinite-personal God is a fundamental starting point in constructing any kind of adequate theology. What is also clear is that it is important to get this understanding right, to the extent that we can do so. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen 1:1 HCSB) (Akin, Theology of the church). But with the revelation of the speaking God who has told us what he has done should make us want to please him each and every day and to show him we love him to.
What is sin? The bible refers to sin as breaking the law of God.(1 John 3:4) The bible also refers to sin as rebellion against God. (Joshua 1:18) Sin began when Satan was still an angel of God and was not satisfied with his placement. He aspired to be more powerful than God, and this was Satan’s first sin. (Isaiah 14:12-15) When Satan came to earth and tempted Adam and Eve (Genesis 3), he bought sin along with him for everyone else in the world too. Since then, sin as be brought down from generations. And because everyone is descendants of Adam, we all inherit the habits of sin. (Romans 5:12) I believe that because we were all born into sin, that everyone will
The biblical metanarrative touches the storyline of the main book, the Bible, from the beginning from Genesis to the end of Revelation. Throughout the bible there are many stories that have a message and come across to Christians that relate to their life. The bible is one book with many events that tells one big story. There are five acts of the biblical metanarrative consists of which are, Act I: The God of Creation, Act II: Sin Enters the World, Act III: God Covenants with Israel, Act IV: Jesus and the New Covenant, and Act V: The Fellowship of believers. Each of these Acts have stories about the life of Jesus that has a meaning Christians relate to.
When most people hear the word science they may recall images their high school biology or chemistry class such beakers, test tubes, and strange looking liquids. However, science is much more than something learned in a text book or random experiments done in a lab. According to the United Kingdom Science Counsel, “Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence” (sciencecouncil.org). For Christians, science should be important not only as a means of developing creation but as tool for rightly ruling creation (Genesis1:26). Science is a process by which humans use to manipulate creation for the purpose of attaining factual knowledge. Christians should understand that God will hold his servants accountable for how they use science and that he alone can eliminate the effects of sin on creation. Science is more than an academic subject and for those
The day that Jesus invited Peter, Andrew, James and John to follow Him was perhaps their greatest day. Now, those men had known Jesus before that day, but not as the Messiah. Andrew had been a disciple of John the Baptist (John 1) and had heard John announce that the Messiah was already in the midst of Israel. Two days later, John pointed out Jesus as the “Lamb of God.” (John 1:36) Andrew and another disciple [probably John the apostle] left John the Baptist and spent the day with Jesus. When Andrew learned that Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah, he found his brother, Peter, and brought him to the Lord. (John1:37 & 41) Andrew was not one of the more outstanding apostles; however, it was he who introduced Peter to Jesus
The argument for design has evolved over time as both theologians and philosophers have needed to adjust the details supporting this theory to address an ever changing landscape of scientific, biological and cosmological discovery. Despite this the essence of the argument remains intact simply put those in support of the theory would argue that our existence on this earth and in this universe is far too complex a chain of events to have happened by chance. That in fact the existence of the universe is its self, the result of a set of such improbable circumstances that there has to be intelligence behind its creation an architect, a creator or in religious terms a God. The versions of this argument are in my opinion interesting however I would
The Old Testament consisted of a set of documentations of religious scriptures, which were written by different people at various times for a different audience. Most of the Old Testament contains short stories of traditional stories and those stories of distinguished ways God established mankind. These stories are often told to the people in narrative form, which are guidelines often referred to as laws, songs, genealogies, and a list from these authors that composed the Old Testaments. The pressing of set documentation is essential because it is the framework for the lives of God 's followers. The term “Old Testament” originated as a means to express spoken traditions and God 's creation of that particular era. It is an method of philosophical investigation was designed to answer the why questions within these spiritual text documentations. These religious documentations consisted of four parts. These four sections retrieved from the Old Testaments are the laws, history, wisdom and prophecy. The laws are a rule of behavior enforced within the community. The rules are sometimes called “Torah.” When analyzing this Torah, these rules viewed within the first five spiritual books of the Bible. For example, in the first Torah in Genesis, it explains the creation, Noah’s Flood, Abraham and Isaac, and Joseph’s coats of many colors. However, the laws in Exodus were in regards to the going out. The going out took about 40 plus years, until the people led to
The Bible shows God’s existence in creation in the books of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, and Romans. Job 12:7-10 says, “But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.” The Bible also gives an example of the design argument.
