William Henry Gates III was born in Seattle, Washington on October 28, 1955. William was the middle child of William H. Gates II, a very successful lawyer in Seattle, and Mary Gates, his mother, who worked as a teacher before she had kids. William had two siblings, A older sister, Kristi, and a younger sister, Libby. William loved to play games and was pretty competitive at most everything he did. William was a very intelligent child and made outstanding grades in elementary school, especially in math. William got very bored and distracted very easily and tended to get into some trouble. Williams parents kept him occupied by signing him up for activities like boy scouts and reading science fiction books. At the age of thirteen, Williams parents
Gates dropped out of college to start a business with another student like him and then soon after launched as a billionaire. Malcolm Gladwell explains that it wasn’t as simple as that for Bill Gates. Gates and his friend, Paul Allen, had spent hours on programming until late hours at the University of Washington near his family home. What was an addiction to programming and 10,000 hours later for Allen and Gates, lead to being a successful launch of the well-known Microsoft program. Although Gates’ hard work paid off, he was fortunate to have access and opportunities to use computer technology when very few had the chance to come near a computer.
Gates later went on co-found Microsoft and create lasting and groundbreaking computer software that continues to be valuable to society as technology has become common in day to day life. Undoubtedly, Gate’s intellect, passion, and creativity led him to create an extraordinary product and established him as a modern genius.
What would a computer be without an operating system? People wouldn't be able to use computers if it weren’t for Bill Gates' innovative and genius invention. Everyone uses a computer some way, whether it's a phone or a PC. Everyone's life would be very different if it weren’t for Bill Gates’ operating system. Bill Gates revolutionized the computer industry in the following ways: his creation of Microsoft, innovative business strategies, building a software platform, the Bill and Melinda Foundation, and the Common Core Standards.
Bill Gates (William Henry Gates III) was “brought” to this world on October 28, 1955 in the “lands” of Seattle, Washington. He growed up in an upper-class family with his two sisters: Kristianne and Libby Gates. His father, William H. Gates Sr., was a shy and promising law student when he met his “future” wife, Mary Maxwell, who was an ongoing student as an athletic in the University of Washington. Mary, at the time, was actively involved in student affairs and leadership. His families atmosphere is very warm and close and all of the three children, including Bill himself, were all promoted to be competitive and academically intelligent by their parents. However, Bill showed early signs of “competitiveness” whenever he plans to play board games, such as Monopoly and Risk, with the family at their summer house located in Puget Sound. In his childhood, Bill had a very close relationship with his mother since she would often take
William Henry Gates, III was born October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. He was the middle child of three born to William and Mary Gates. ATrey,@ as he was called because of the III, was sent to a private school by his father, a lawyer, and mother, a former teacher now on several prestigous boards (Moritz, 238). At age 13, Bill had completely taught himself programming after taking a computer studies class. After scoring a perfect 800 on the mathematics half of the SAT, he graduated from Lakeside school and enrolled at Harvard University as a prelaw major. As a student Gates was a wonder. He received an A in an economics class without attending and cramming the night before the final exam. In June 1975, Bill Gates dropped
After Gates graduated high school, with a perfect 800 on the SAT, he went to Harvard law school in 1973 (“Gates, Bill” 2) (“Gates, William Henry, III” 1). In 1975 his friend Paul Allen came up to him while Bill was in college and showed him a Popular Mechanics article about a $350 microcomputer, Gates read this article and was convinced that he wanted to be in the computer industry (“Gates, William Henry, III” 1). As a sophomore in college he and Paul Allen made the computer language BASIC compatible to microcomputers, this took much skill and he was the first to do it (Leaders of info 2). He did this for a company called MITS (Leaders of info 2). This shows his motivation to do well in the world, and to be successful. With this new success in the BASIC software, he dropped out of Harvard and went to pursue his new career (“Gates, Bill 1). He went to Albuquerque, New Mexico with Paul and they both founded a new company called Microsoft to mass produce their new software (Leaders of Info 2).
His early life is full of interesting stuff. When Bill Gates was young, he was interested in computers because he thought it was interesting with all the binary code. He got into another school due to that he was super smart in most of his classes. “He met his friend, Allen, when he started hanging out by the computers due to he developed an interest in computers.” (25, Wallace) They started hanging out together due to that they both liked computers. He had a great childhood except for when he wanted to start a computer company away from home due to his
At 59 years old, he wears glasses, and has wrinkles around the cheeks, eyes, and mouth. He has white and hazel brown hair with light blue eyes. Gates is extremely intelligent, and got a 1590 out of 1600 on the SAT, and got accepted into Harvard University. He is also a risk taker. IBM took Gates and Microsoft to court, but IBM being of the most successful technological companies at the time, lost the case. He has also donated to multiple foundations that were trying to help find a cure for deadly diseases. He didn’t know whether or not they would actually find a cure for the disease, but he took the risk of donating and did it. Determination was also a very big factor in Bill Gates’ life. Every time Gates took up something, whether it was decoding a program or coding a new operating system, he finished it. He didn’t give up and quit right in the middle of working on a project, he persisted and accomplished his task. For example, when Bill Gates and Paul Allen just founded Microsoft, they had hard times, but they were determined to make Microsoft a big and successful company, and they succeeded. All of these characteristics lead to his success to become the richest man in the
Known across the world as one of, if not the richest and most successful entrepreneur in the world, Bill Gates rose to world prominence through his the modern day software juggernaut, Microsoft. Microsoft would go from a small coding language development group into the largest software company in the world. With Microsoft, Gates was instrumental in ushering in the great leaps in technology as well as growing the role of technology in the lives of consumers. Yet, Gates has used his immense wealth to become one of the world’s greatest philanthropists, where his foundation has made him one of the most charitable Americans in history. Gates’ positive effect on the well-being of modern world through technology, as well as his continuing impact on developing solutions to problems affecting the world have both placed Bill Gates in the conversation of being one of the most important Americans of
Mr. Gates continue his education in Harvard Law where he was admitted with a SAT score 1590 (over 99.65%) but on his second year he left all behind to pursue his vision.
William Henry “Bill” Gates III, was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington, to a wealthy family (Heller 6). His parents were William H. Gates III, a prominent attorney, and Mary, a school teacher (William Henry (Bill) Gates). Bill Gates is not only a genius, but also an innovator in education, technology, and philanthropy. A prodigy, Bill Gates shares an education fact with Abraham Lincoln, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and even his competitor Steve Jobs: no college degree. Instead, he devoted his time to his passion for technology, going on to create the most profitable technology company in the world. For much of the past decade, Gates allocated both his profit and attention to philanthropy. Evidence of his innovation, industry and curiosity can be seen at an early age.
Bill Gates first took an interest in computer programming when he was 13 years old, while attending school. The school used funds from sales and donations and was able to purchase the students an ASR-33 Teletype terminal and computer time on a General Electric computer terminal. Bill, instantly intrigued, was able to get excused from his regular classes to work with the computer. Bill, then, gained his interest in computer programming. He was able to develop a program where the students could play the computer in a game of tic-tac-toe. This was the beginning of Bill Gates career (Bill Gates, 2011).
