Good afternoon class, I am Shelbee Thompson and I choose Ronald Reagan as my president. Reagan served two terms as the 40th president of the United States from 1981- 1989. He was born in 1911 on February 6th to Edward and Nelle Reagan in Tampico, Illinois. Before Ronald became president, he was an actor, served in the United States Army, and served as a governor in California. During Reagan's childhood, he and his family moved frequently to various small towns in Illinois because his father switched sales jobs, but eventually settled in Dixon in 1920. In 1928, he graduated from Dixon High School, where he was an athlete, was the student body president and performed in school plays. In March of 1981, a few months after his inauguration, he survived an assassination attempt by John Hinckley Jr., who suffered psychiatric problems. He had one brother named Neil who eventually became an advertising executive. Growing up, Reagan’s father gave him the nickname “Dutch Boy” because of his fat little Dutchman appearance.
