Biology 102 introduces students to the concept of evolution, the principles of evolution, natural selection, and major kingdoms of living things organisms. My major is nursing and taking this course is a prerequisite and is required for my major. Taking Biology courses will help me be better knowledgeable in my chosen field. I took biology 101 last semester and we learned about cell and organisms. These are fundamentals things that someone who plans to have a career in the healthcare field needs to know. Also these courses are prerequisites for other science courses I have to take such as microbiology, human anatomy and physiology. As a future nurse these are information that will come in handy everyday. I have three years left in my undergraduate study and more …show more content…
Biology much like my major has several layers in its complexity and to move on to the next stage you have to understand the one before. To move on in my major and career I have to successfully understand the concept of biology 102. Biology is the study of living organisms, all life depends on certain physiological and chemical functions. The study of biology includes osmosis, acid-base balance, electron flow among other things to work together to provide the proper understanding of the human body. In healthcare you must have a basic understanding of the underlying principles of life; for example, as a nurse you will take people's blood sugar/blood glucose- but that number is meaningless unless you understand the purpose of glucose in our bodies and how we respond to its sugar level. The concept continues to identifying a patient's illness from how you respond and classify the symptoms. Anatomy a branch of biology will help me as a nurse differentiate minor problems from major problems. The study of biology allow nurses, doctors or anyone in medicine to do more than just speculate about health

7)a) You would do the Benedict’s reagent test for simple sugars and the Lugol’s solution or Iodine test for polysaccharides and starch. To test the lipids you would use the Sudan iV test and Biurets reagent test for protein.

1) Water molecule is formed with 2 hydrogens and one oxygen atom. Water molecule is a polar molecule because both the opposite side of the molecule have opposite charges. And also, atoms are linked by covalent bonds.
For my AP biology summer assignment, I chose to do “Decaying Foods”. In my project, I used a slice of whole wheat bread and an apple slice. Throughout the fourteen days, I made observations on the plates every two hours beginning at 10:45 AM. On Day One, Plate A was in the refrigerator, Plate B was in the closet, and Plate C was on the windowsill, all starting out fresh. As the day progressed, objects on Plate A remained in their natural state, on Plate B the crusts of the bread became hard, and the apple slice was brown and dried out , and the apple slice had become hard and the bread felt toasted on Plate C. On Day Two, Plate A remained the same, Plate B had hard bread and the apple slice was wilting in the core and Plate C’s bread was cracking
The final 2 property points were earned for the description and discussion of specific heat.
This is immunity in an organism that’s a result from the production of antibodies or lymphocytes after an antigen is identified in the body.
11. Define the following: Genetic drift: unpredictable fluctuations in allele frequencies, reduces genetic variation over time through such losses of alleles
After graduating high school, I was accepted to Alabama State University and decided to study Biology. I figured that this area would help me study living organisms, life processes and understanding the basic life processes that required different medical provisions. I believed that I would eventually find out if I wanted to studying medicine or counsel people. On May 7, 2011, I graduated from Alabama State University with my Bachelor’s degree in Biology. Then I volunteered at Jamaica Hospital emergency room alongside the medical providers and interact with the families of those who are medically
I have chosen biology as my major that I plan to pursue. I choose this because it satisfies the requirements of medical school. This reassures me as I won’t have to spend extra money to take specific courses and panic when applying for medical school.
This week we are assigned career cluster 8 about health. All of the jobs in this cluster are connected because they all work in helping people and making our lives better. Doctors and nurses of all types help us in many ways, some in which can often times save our lives. Whether they are operating on our heart, studying to find a cure for cancer or helping save some unknown creature out in the wild, they all care and are working hard to make this world a better place.
The biological domain refers to the physical elements and genetic systems within our bodies that impact on or are influenced by our behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. Our genes are one type of physical component within our bodies that usually influence our personalities. A person’s genetic construct determines whether their hair is curly or straight, or their eyes are black or hazel, if they are of a large structure or a slight build. It seems also that our genetic makeup influences how active one can be, or whether the person is hot-tempered and disagreeable and if they prefer to be private or friendly. A person having the knowledge and understanding of genetics would know that it is a part of
I have been a compassionate and caring person for so long that I am convinced that it is sewn deep within my being. When I was a child, I would volunteer in activities from planting trees in a local park to helping monitor children at the community center after school. These opportunities allowed me to observe other people create ways to give back to the community and create a volunteer opportunity that I was passionate about and enjoyed. I enjoy helping people in need, which I why I plan to pursue biology in college, a subject that I have loved since I was in elementary school. As I grew up, my passion for biology morphed into an aspiration to become a pediatrician. I want to complete undergraduate school and medical school on opposite coasts, and complete residency in a different country before returning to the Tulare County to provide the medical expertise that patients typically have to drive to Fresno to receive. Growing up in the Tulare County, I have seen doctors misdiagnose

Science plays a role in my future career because it involves many characteristics alike to chemistry biology etc. My college major is Nursing as an Transplant Nurse what they do is assist in procedures in which an infected organ is to be replaced with a donated healthy organ of the same kind. For example liver, kidney, pancrease, heart lungs. Required classes for this major/requirments is both masters degrees and doctarates in nursing science phd. in nursing. The classes needed are Basic Nutrition, Chemistry, psychology, Human Anatomy (structure of the body) physiology (how the body functions) Human Development, Microbiology (germs) nursing science. To start off Basic nutritions means learning about foods and nutrients things that are good
