Bipolar disorder is a very serious mental illness, that can have detrimental effects on a whole family. Bipolar disorder also known as “manic depression”, is a mental disorder that affects a person’s mood and general outlook on life like most other mental disorders. Bipolar disorder cannot be cured, but treatment can help improve the overall function of a person’s life. Bipolar disorder can affect people’s lives greatly. Bipolar disorder can affect a person’s relationship with others. People with bipolar disorder have a tendency to act out and when combined with dramatic and unanticipated mood swings it makes it hard for the people around them.
Bipolar disorder is a whole world different from the normal ups and downs of life. Sometimes in life we as humans get a little depressed. Other times we are happy and have a rather positive outlook on like. People with bipolar disorder can feel these things within minutes of each other. People with bipolar disorder go through what is called manic or hypomanic episodes. A manic episode is a period of at least a week that includes elevated mood and irritability. A manic episode is exclusive to people with bipolar 1 disorder. Though people with bipolar 1 can have hypomanic episodes. Mood shifts may occur a few times year or as often as several times a week.
